Dolphins Sign Pair of Picks

The Miami Dolphins have signed fifth-round cornerback Nolan Carroll and seventh-round linebacker Austin Spitler, David Neal of the Miami Herald reports.

Carroll's four-year deal included a signing bonus of around $192,000, making his contract worth just under $1.982 million dollars. Spitler's signing bonus is $36,475.

Carroll missed most of his senior season with a broken leg, but the 5-11, 204-pound cornerback ran a 4.42-40 with a 37.5" vertical leap and 10'03" broad jump at his pro day on March 10, considerably boosting his draft stock.

A starter in six of his 38 career games at the University of Maryland, Carroll totaled 61 tackles and 9 pass break-ups during his career. Carroll also provides the ability to return kicks, which is Carroll's likely path to a roster spot.

Spitler (6-2, 243) spent three years as a backup middle linebacker before moving outside as a senior. In his one season as a starter, Spitler totaled 38 tackles, including 5 for a loss, and a quarterback sack.

Spitler has been working at inside linebacker in the Dolphins’ 3-4 defense, and will be asked to be a core member of the special teams units.

Miami now has four of their eight picks in the 2010 NFL Draft under contract.
