Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports the Miami Dolphins have signed third-round guard John Jerry to a four-year contract.
Wilson reports that Jerry's contract is worth $2.64 million dollars, an indicator that his signing bonus was in the neighborhood of $850,000.
A four-year starter at Mississippi, Jerry (6-5, 328) spent his first two seasons at right guard before kicking outside to right tackle as a junior. Jerry split his time between guard and tackle last season.
Jerry earned second-team All-SEC honors in 2008, and was first-team All-SEC after last season.
Jerry has solid NFL bloodlines. Older brother Peria was a first-round pick by the Atlanta Falcons in 2009, and his cousin and former Ole Miss teammate Jamarca Sanford was a seventh-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings. Jerry is also related to former NFLers Eddie Strong and Dwayne Rudd. Jerry was also college roommates with Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Michael Oher in Oxford, MS.
Though Jerry played tackle the last two seasons, he’s expected to compete with Donald Thomas and Richie Incognito for a starting job on the interior of the Dolphins offensive line this season.
