Dolphins Reach Deal With 5th Round S Reshad Jones

Georgia product agrees to four-year deal with Miami.

Mike Berardino of the Sun-Sentinel reports the Miami Dolphins have reached a four-year deal with fifth-round safety Reshad Jones.

Per Berardino, Jones will receive a signing bonus of just over $160,000, making the base value of his deal worth over $1.95 million dollars. Jones' deal has a maximum value of nearly $2.7 million dollars.

Jones totaled 206 tackles, including 10 for a loss, with 11 career interceptions and 13 pass break-ups during his three years at the University of Georgia. A two-year starter, Jones earned second-team All-SEC honors after posting 76 tackles and 5 interceptions in 2008. Jones considered turning pro after that breakout season, but opted to return for another season for the Bulldogs.

Jones has the speed—-ran a 4.51 at the Combine—-to play free safety, and at 6-1 and 214 pounds, Jones has the size to intimidate receivers coming across the middle. Jones is competing with Chris Clemons for the Dolphins’ starting free safety job, and it wouldn’t be a total shock if he wins that battle this summer.
