Cowboys S Pat Watkins Signs RFA Tender

Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News reports Dallas Cowboys restricted free agent safety Pat Watkins has signed his one-year tender.

The former Florida State star was chosen in the fifth-round (138th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft, and in 49 career games, has amassed 122 tackles and four interceptions. 36 of Watkins' tackles have come on special teams, a statistic Watkins led the Cowboys in during the 2007 season.

Dallas placed the "Original Round" tender on Watkins, who'll earn a $1.176 million dollars if he makes the Cowboys' 53-man roster in 2010.

Watkins is currently expected to compete with fellow restricted free agent Gerald Sensabaugh for the starting strong safety job, but the Cowboys have met with several of the top safeties available in this year's draft, including USC safety Taylor Mays, who was expected to meet with the Cowboys today.
