Browns, Joe Jurevicius Settle Lawsuit

The Cleveland Browns and Joe Jurevicius reached an out-of-court settlement in the lawsuit the former wide receiver brought against the franchise over a staph infection that ended Jurevicius' career, the Associated Press reports.

Jurevicius had been seeking over $25,000 in damages. Terms of the settlement will be kept confidential, Fred Nance, general counsel for the Browns, told the AP.

Jurevicius filed the lawsuit against the Browns and the Cleveland Clinic in Cuyahoga County Court last June, claiming that the team misrepresented the cleanliness of its training facility, and blaming doctors with negligence over the 2008 staph infection in his right knee.

A Cleveland, Ohio native, Jurevicius signed a four-year contract with the Browns in 2006. In 29 games, Jurevicius caught 90 passes for 1,109 yards and 6 touchdowns before developing a staph infection in his right knee, which required six procedures to clear.

Jurevicius was released by the Browns in March of 2009.

A second-round pick (55th overall) out of Penn State by the New York Giants in 1998, Jurevicius caught 323 passes for 4,119 yards and 29 touchdowns during a 10-year career that also included stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2002-04) and Seattle Seahawks (2005).
