Broncos WR Eric Decker Does On-Field Work

Coming off a Lisfranc injury that ended his college career, Denver Broncos third-round wide receiver Eric Decker was unable to participate in on-field drills during the team's "Organized Team Activity" sessions and mini-camp.

Arnie Stapleton of the Canadian Press reports that Decker is participating in on-field drills during Arizona Cardinals Pro Bowl wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald's pre-training camp workouts on the campus of the University of Minnesota, Decker's alma mater.

"Oh yeah. I didn't get a chance to practice in OTAs and minicamp," Decker said on Tuesday. "I'm a little nervous and I'm anxious because I'm back to football, I'm back playing, I'm done in the training room and that's exciting to me."

Prior to training camp, Fitzgerald invites young NFL players to the Twin Cities to work out, bringing in NFL legends to provide some insight to the young players. Jerry Rice and Cris Carter spoke at Fitzgerald's camp last year, and this year, Michael Irvin is in attendance.

This isn't the first time Decker has worked out with Fitzgerald, a player he tries to emulate on and off the field.

"I try to emulate my game after Larry Fitzgerald," Decker said at the 2010 Scouting Combine in February. "He's a Minnesota boy. I got an opportunity to work out with him this past summer. We're comparable in size. He's one of those guys that's a workout freak. He's going to work harder than anybody. And he's an elite receiver.

"He gets his production on the field, and off the field he's a class act. On and off the field, he acts like a professional and that's the way I want to be when I get to the next level."

NFL participants in Fitzgerald's camp varies from week-to-week, but players who have been mentioned in Decker's group are Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley, Seattle Seahawks second-round wide receiver Golden Tate, New Orleans Saints cornerback Malcolm Jenkins, St. Louis Rams linebacker James Laurinaitis, and Minnesota Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson.
