Bears Sign DE Maurice Evans

The Chicago Bears have released punter Richmond McGee and signed defensive end Maurice Evans, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Signed by the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Penn State in 2009, Evans had 5 tackles and a quarterback sack during the pre-season. Evans spent part of his rookie season on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers practice squads.

McGee (6-4, 203) has yet to punt in an NFL game, averaging 34.9 yards on 7 punts between two pre-seasons with the Bears (2008) and Philadelphia Eagles (2008). Veteran Brad Maynard is recovering from hip surgery, but is pain-free and expected to be fine for the regular season, lessening the need for two punters.
