Bears-Panthers Trade Official

Multiple news outlets are reporting that the Chicago Bears have officially (re)acquired safety Chris Harris from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for restricted free agent linebacker Jamar Williams.

Harris, 27, was a sixth-round pick by the Bears in 2005, and was traded to the Panthers for a 2008 fifth-round pick. In 69 career games over the last five seasons, Harris has 338 tackles, 1 quarterback sack, 10 interceptions, and 22 pass break-ups.

Williams was a fourth-round pick by the Bears in 2006, and the restricted free agent was tendered at the "Original Round" level this off-season. Williams has been active for 51 games, totaling 89 tackles, 1 quarterback sack, and 5 pass break-ups. 24 of Williams' tackles have come on special teams.

Williams is signed through 2010 with a base salary of $1.176 million dollars, while Harris signed a five-year, $13.1 million dollar contract extension in 2008. Both players are expected to re-work their current contracts.
