General Info:

Diaby spend his first few seasons at Georgia Military College, where he had 19 tackles and two sacks as a freshman and 58 tackles, 20 tackles for a loss, and five sacks as a Sophomore. He transferred to Louisville the following season and played in eight games with seven starts. The former Cardinal collected 18 tackles, 14 pressures and 2.5 tackles for a loss. For the 2021 season he finished with 39 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 22 pressures, and 1.5 sacks. Diaby saved his best for his final season in Louisville, the Atlanta native finished with 37 tackles, 14.5 tackles for a loss, 36 pressures, and 9 sacks. He was invited to participate in both the Reese’s Senior Bowl and the NFL scouting combine.

Positional Skills:

Strengths:

The first thing that stands out about Diaby is that he is on the “first off the bus” team, he is big, strong, and athletic. He has strong hands, holds his own in the run game and shows impressive stack and shedding ability, and extends his arms to keep the blocker away from his chest; he rarely gives ground in the run game. Diaby has also shown an ability to get down the line of scrimmage and tackle backs from behind. The former Cardinal has shown a two-hand shuck that he can use. On T-E or E-T stunts he is too quick for most guards. The Georgia native will also use inside/outside fakes to throw the blocker off and get them to commit to one way, then he comes across the other. Diaby is too strong for most tight ends or running backs to block. The Atlanta native will also use a bull rush to get into the backfield. On film he has shown he can convert speed to power to throw offensive linemen off balance. He has shown a developing rip move. His motor is always running, he may not always have a plan, but he continues to work. The former Georgia Military college transfer shows a good general awareness/vision on the field, he rarely gets tunnel vision. Because of his size and strength, he could be used inside on passing downs occasionally. On film Diaby has shown he can get skinny and slip through gaps. Another thing he has shown on film is flashes of being able to play half-man. The Atlanta native does generally show good patience in run defense and holds his gap.

Weaknesses:

He can get overaggressive at times trying to penetrate against the run and he ends up opening a gap for the running back. Diaby played the vast majority of his snaps in a 4-point or 3-point stance as essentially a 3-4 defensive end, so it will be a bit of a projection putting him in a 2-point stance that is used in Green Bay’s 3-4. He still can get a little high out of his stance sometimes causing him to lose leverage and the blocker pushing him out of the play. He is a big over-aged, turning 24 in May; there might be questions as to how much upside he has left. Diaby, like a lot of college edge rusher, seems to lack counters and the ability to stack moves. His bend is very average, he’s not the type of rusher that will bend the corner on the offensive tackle. Diaby will also still get stuck to blockers occasionally. Stunts aren’t coordinated yet; he runs into his teammate a lot. Although Diaby has shown flashes of half-man, he hasn’t shown it a lot and could really work on it. One thing he has little to no experience in is dropping in coverage, that will also be a projection.

Fit with the Packers:

If they were the sketch up what the typical Packers edge rusher looks like, Diaby would be it. He is over 260, has 34” arms, can play the run and the pass equally well, is a power rusher, still has upside, is explosive, and a high level athlete. One of his few draw backs as stated above is that he will be 24 years old next month, the Packers like their draft picks to be between 21-23. He could sit for a year as the #3 or #4 edge rusher while he develops his pass rush plans and moves. The former Cardinal is already a good run defender, so he could see snaps there early on while he develops, he would probably be one of the better run defenders of the Packers edge rushers as a rookie. Diaby would be a great fit with the Packers and a player they could get on day two.

I like YaYa Diabi, and think he would make a great Day 3 value pick for the Packers. There’s a lot to like in his game & resume.

To get Ya Ya AND Jammie in the same draft would be a delight.
Maybe they could get HaHa to mentor Ya Ya.

He or whoever we pick at Edge might have to play right away if Gary is ready to go. Being 24 would probably help him in that regard because he is a grown man right now. Not a 21-year-old who will be in awe of his surroundings.

Keion White, Will Mcdonald, Isaiah Mcguire, and Robert Beale are all older and should plug right into a rotation.
I also like Tavius Robinson and Baldonado from Pitt later.

So we shouldn't draft a player in the 3rd round that would require "Too much work" ? Do you have a 3rd rounder in mind that won't ?

I don’t think he’s got the value R3-4. Solid R4-5. There’s nothing but power, arms and go. Zero technique/repertoire. OL can sit back bracing for bull rush. Some of his limited stuff won’t fly everywhere in NFL.

Less to unlearn, but…

Isaiah McGuire is true R3 value. Eku Leota, Adetomiwa Adebawore, Karl Brooks, Ochaun Mathis and Caleb Murphy seem even better values later.

YaYa brings power rush with levers and hands. He did show improvement in run D w 14 TFL 2022.

His value is R4-5. Hell, stockholder would take him R5.

I would love to have him. His stock is rising. but we should find a way to get him. Only the Packers can lay claim to names like Ha Ha and Ya Ya, Seems like a perfect fit : )

From Draft Buzz:

Diaby is a high-motor pass rusher who shows a good feel for countering, and Diaby has the functional strength to bounce off tackles and close on the quarterback with second effort.
Made Bruce Feldman's Freak's List - ranked #85. He wrote, "Diaby has emerged as a solid player, making 39 tackles and three TFLs in 2021. The 6-5, 280-pound senior with the 8-1 wingspan can really move for a big man, topping out at 20.8 mph on the GPS. His vertical jump is in the mid-30s and he broad-jumps 9-11. His bench press also is up to 385 pounds."
Plays with exceptional balance and body control, showing off a nasty spin move to counter his speed, with the natural instincts to know when to use it.
Diaby explodes off the line with a quick first step, with agile feet to counter inside and closing burst to finish plays.
Delivers a strong punch and uses his hands to shed blocks to make plays in the hole or outside the box. Uses lower-body strength to anchor inside.
Combines excellent power with initial quickness, but one of his best attributes are his violent hands, which he uses with impressive precision.
His long limbs and strong core strength allow him to power through blockers, and he has the flexibility to loop inside and get home on twists.

Agree. If that's what he brings, who cares if he's 24. That may be a plus.

That combine performance perked up the interest of a lot of teams. In fact, his measurements were some of the best ever recorded by a defensive end. Plays with great effort. I've read conflicting reports about his proficiency against the run. Has no experience in coverage, so don't get funky and try it, Joe B.

Yes!
I think it’s kind of weird that an “edge rusher” has to drop into coverage. Is it REALLY so “confusing” to offenses to have these guys who can’t cover worth a dang to attempt it a few times a game?

B.J. Raji dropped into coverage and intercepted an important pass in an important game.

Great call, TGR. A Pick 6 against the Bears in the NFC Championship game. Couldn't have been sweeter!
https://youtu.be/4Uqm9Gnd_FM

BJ Raji's 2010 season was the stuff of dreams for any NT. The Packers benefitted greatly because of his play that year.

Raji had 10 TFL that season, 39 tackles, 29 solo, 9 QB hits, 6.5 sacks, 3 PD, 1 INT.

We still miss him. The Freezer!

This team needs to draft a top talent at NT, especially with how badly we've been run on for years.

Brodric Martin is the guy Green. I don't know what round because my mock draft on Pro Football Network has him rated so low I can always pick him in the 7th. He seems like maybe a 4th or 5th? He is 6'5 335 lbs and he has some pass rush too. He might fill 2 holes.
LOL

In case anyone else does mocks on Pro football Network, they have now included players from each team that you can trade or trade for. It's pretty cool. I finally get to trade Savage for my TE I have wanted for 2 years, Albert Okwuegbunam. Today I traded Rodgers to the 49ers for #99, #100, and #101. Plus Brandon Aiyuk and a 3rd and 4th from 2024. If it was only so easy.

Oh, yes, I definitely remember that!
But of course he was a nose tackle and those guys are KNOWN for their amazing agility! 😉
What I’m saying is, when evaluating edge rushers, how big a deal is coverage skills?

Back in January, I was looking at highlight videos, when I came across one of YaYa; at the time, most draft sites listed him as a seventh round pick, so I was surprised when I watched that tape, because he looked more like a round 2-3 player! Since then, he's steadily risen on those sites; now he's listed in that round three area.

I like him, and I think that he could add weight and play backup 5-tech as well, as sort of a swing man, which we could use. Frankly, he's not all that different from Keion White who is getting first-round buzz. With our need at 5-tech and EDge, I think a swing guy or two is just what we need.

This is a fascinating post, and I am particularly interested in the topic of report writing. I always struggle with writing reports and any type of writing work, but fortunately, I can rely on https://www.academicghostwriter.org/ to help me with this. With their support, I can focus on understanding the content and leave the writing to the professionals. This service has been a lifesaver for me, and I highly recommend it to anyone who needs help with their reports.

Wow . This guy got under my radar; and I obsess about the draft. With his numbers he could easily rise to the first round. Could be a real steal in the second. The comments with those that have seen him on film are very persuasive. It sounds like he would fit into the rotation almost immediately and have a positive impact.

Later Edge guys Baldonado-Pitt (was an MMA fighter before Pitt), Beal-Georgia is a stud who got lost in their rotation, Tavius Robinson is a beast, Viliami Fehoko-San Jose St. has good tape, Caleb Murphy-Ferris State set an NCAA record with 25 sacks last year.

Edge is a super strong position, and we don't need one in the 1st round. That won't help Love be successful. But a stud TE plus 2 more sure will. Trade Back Get More Picks. The Jets trade might not get done before the draft, we sure can't count on it.
