I'm hoping for two guys.
OG Josh Gesky
QB Mark Gronowski

Another K, OL, and DL. A LB, RB, TE, and WR at least.

[Edit] Yes! They got Gesky. I thought they might as a top 30 visit. Good athlete. He has a very good chance of making the team.

Moo, I am a Hawkeye fan and watched Gronowski all last year. Other than his Senior Bowl game, he was one of the most inaccurate QBs Iowa has ever had. And we have had some bad ones the last few years. He never lived up to his clippings. Never throws on time and is always high, low, behind, you name it. You could see the WRs frustration all year. I don't think he has a chance at all.

We did get Getsky, that's a win.

Yeah, they got Kyron Drones. Same build as both about 6'2" 235 lbs. Kyron a little faster and maybe a bit more athletic, close. Really close. 9.61 for Gronowski. 9.58 for Kyron. Kyron has the bigger arm and probably a better runner. It's a toss up. I didn't think Gronowski was as bad as some. Let's face it, the Iowa receivers suck. Have for years, outside of TEs, which weren't as talented this year. I'm good with Kyron. Maybe get both?

Gronowski to Miami, hey I would go where the nice weather is too. You are right about Iowa, our offense has been in reverse for so long and we have lost so many WRs & QBs the last 5 years. We have a solid group this year so we will see.

Drones sounds like he has promise. His team dropped the most passes in college football last year so his % should be better than it is, and he is a good runner too. It is hard to see him making the team.

The Chiefs must have got a head start on everyone, they had 13 UFDAs the last time I checked. Heidman the Edge is still available. I would love to see how GBs UFDA process works. Stackhouse was the big get last year. We never seem to be very aggressive in this type of free agency.

Not a bad scouting squad stand in for Williams and a couple of others around the league. I think that’s what this may be about. McCord is a pure pocket guy.

One of the most inaccurate passers Iowa has ever had? LOL. Deacon Hill, Spencer Petras, Cade McNamara, Christenson ring any bells? Gronowski won't make it in the NFL, IMO, but calling him the most inaccurate ever is just silliness.

Diego Pounds-Ole Miss-OT not getting drafted was a surprise to me. He fits what we need.

2 really promising WRs I would sign are Jeff Caldwell and J Michael Sturdivant.

Heidman the Edge would be a good one.

We had multiple CBs in that will be candidates, another I like is Josh Moton.

Not that I want him but the college sack leader Nadame Tucker wasn't picked.

I recommend everyone watch Drones' highlight video. The guy has an unbelievable arm.
He throws those long-range bullets that only the most gifted passers can do.

Absolute effortless passer.

I also see a lot of Willis in him; he's not quite the runner that Willis is, but he's a better runner than Love, Rodgers, or Favre was.

Jaden Nixon is fast! We might have an opening should Lynch not be ready again. This Nixon also returns kicks (watch his return for a TD), so the multidimensionality is a bonus.

splitpea1. Hot damn! You were not kidding !

Just watched RB Jaden Nixon’s highlights and, the dude has speed. Big time. He looks 100% legit challenger behind Jacobs.

Being Sunday, and I’ve gotten used to film study… watched TE RJ Maryland and TE Eni Falayi highlights as well. Both are looooong! F TEs for sure, but Russell Maryland’s son looks like he can immediately challenge Musgrave for snaps. Falayi too.

Actually, all 3 of these players look like they catch readily, with ease.

Checked out LB TJ Quinn’s highlights as well. He’s a fun player and looks to be a great signing.

Nixon is small, very small for a Packers back. In season he was closer to 185. By testing he’d got up to about 200. I can understand why he would feel the need at his position, but I suspect that screwed up his testing.

There is no doubt that was awful, especially for a small back. It also looks nothing like his film. I’m guessing scouting folks identified that.

However, at that size, it would be a surprising departure for this team to see him as in the running as a back. I suspect he’s a returner signing first and foremost.

WR J. Michael Sturdivant easily could have been drafted; he has a solid chance to make the roster as an UDFA. 6'2" with 4.4 speed and good hands, in fact, he caught long balls over his shoulder, which I always lament these days, because so few of our TEs and WRs do that.

RJ Maryland was draftable as well, certainly if he wasn't coming off a 2024(?) injury? He reminds me of a poor man's Kyle Pitts and a perfect potential replacement for Luke Musgrave if he doesn't make a jump.

Both our UDFAs look like decently talented big body WRs. Maryland looks like he can play some RB (in the Savion Williams sense). Neither show much that I recognize as TE work at all. I look forward to seeing if they can make an impact, but I can’t see it being as TEs. Then again, Musgrave barely is one either.

I was hoping we'd sign Gesky; I think he has a very good chance to make the 53 as our top backup at left guard plus a fixture as a return teams blocker. We lost Enagbare, who did that.

I’m interested that Gesky gets most interest among the IOL UDFAs. The one that interests me more is Dillon Wade (Auburn), admittedly mostly for his potential at C with a low center of gravity. That said, anyone who steps up will be welcome.

Overall, several of the UDFA's appeared in my draft simulator as draftable players. While they did pick up one running back UDFA it showed me the team is putting hopes on Lloyd.. Hope that works out but history is against him. I suspect before too long you will see Gute find at least another back somewhere. This also explains why they didn't try to resign Wilson.

Gute will also likely be looking for a tight end who can block, though they did find two UDFA's.

Quinn was on my simulator. The knock on him was size, but he is given good ratings otherwise. Another player getting positive reviews is Sturdivant, said to be be a good route runner with good hands but a step slower than other receivers.

Sturdivant is fast, genuinely. He’s a long strider though—he takes time to get going. He’s very similar to MVS in terms of limited route tree, hands issues to an extent and limited change of direction. However, he’s a willing and capable blocker, a better leaper and much better in contested situations. He needs refinement, but he’s capable of taking the top off and has height and reach.

Seems like a good group of UDFA signings.

Just realized TE RJ Maryland is Russell Maryland’s son. The 6-5 259 lb. RJ also ran the 2nd fastest 40 time for TEs at the Combine at 4.91. His 22.70 mph was faster than WRs Tate & Brassell II as well.

The 2 prizes for me were DE Nyjalik Kelly and LB TJ Quinn.

ED Nyjalik Kelly - UCF
6-5 263 4.88, 10 3/8” hands, 35 1/8” arms, (longest in Combine class) 82 1/2” wingspan, 37” vertical, 10’ broad, 21 y/o

Maryland is 6’4” and 236 pounds, unfortunately. He’s essentially a very big WR and plays like one. Musgrave replacement perhaps, if that’s something they want.

Check out RJ's tape. He is Luke Musgraves replacement. He is good...really, really good. He had an injury a couple of years ago and had to wear a brace last year; if healthy, he would have been in the top tier of TEs in this past draft. Kelly reminds me of Kingsley, but better, I like him too! I can't wait to check out the RB's tape, I'm hearing great things!

Sturdivant was a WR I always grabbed late in the first 70% of my mocks, when I thought we didn't or wouldn't need another WR, Then Wicks was traded and I started routinely adding 1 from #120 to #201. Stribling who shocked all the draft gurus by going at #33, and Jeff Caldwell were the 2 I always picked from. Caldwell signed with the Chiefs.

Sturdivant has everything we look for, size, speed, good hands and he can block. Practice squad for sure.

You cant miss with undrafteds IMO since you have nothing to loose other then missing out on some finds other teams grab but that's the way it goes. I would not be surprised to see a couple of these guys shine in camp and maybe make the team. Who knows.
Even the draft is a crap shoot. I still say Gutt drafts more on who he wont pay in two years as much as anything. Were drafting your replacement today and sending you on your way tomorrow.

Wade is the most interesting UDFA OL in my book. I’m thrilled we got him. He’s got tiny arms—a sub 80 wingspan—otherwise he might be a genuine T option athletically. As it is I think he’s a G/C.

He is very athletic laterally and going forward with a low center of gravity (6’3”, 316 pounds). He might actually be really good, especially at C given his height and the value of getting under the DL pads. I would say he’s more finished than Jager at this point. He is a good comparative illustration of why the Jager pick appears such a reach.

The more I read and watch about QB Kyron Drones, the more I wonder if he could actually take the #2 QB spot by the start of the regular season.
If his talent is exposed during the preseason, Gute might HAVE to put him on the 53, even if it means having three QBs on the opening roster. Drones has TALENT. I'm way more impressed by HIS tape than the much-ballyhooed Taylen Green.

My prediction is that they won't give a lot of opportunities to him during the preseason games, and will try to stash him on the practice squad, but I think that could be a big risk in his case. I'd hate to lose another Taysom Hill.

He’s more like Williams. He’s bigger and not nearly as fast, agile or sudden as a runner as Willis. In that I suspect lies the root of their interest, at least initially. He could do things on a scout team McCord probably can’t. As a true QB, he’s a long way behind where Willis was even when he was drafted, and Willis was not ready at that point either.
