The Green Bay Packers had five picks in the first three rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft. However, injuries and other circumstances limited the impact of three of them during their rookie campaigns. The Packers hope to get bigger contributions from these three players after they made minimal contributions last season.

First round pick Jordan Morgan suffered through an injury-plagued 2024. The Arizona alum only played just six games in his first NFL season and started one.

Morgan had to make numerous adjustments in 2024. He played left tackle in college but made the switch to right guard in the NFL. That meant he had to make three adjustments in a short time. He moved from the left side to the right side of the offensive line; he moved from tackle to guard and had to adjust to the size and speed of NFL opponents as compared to college players.

Morgan alternated series with Sean Rhyan at right guard for five games. In the sixth game he appeared in, he started when Elgton Jenkins had to move to center due to an injury to Josh Myers.

Morgan graded out average as both a pass blocker and run blocker according to Pro Football Focus. While scouts view Morgan primarily as a guard in the NFL, he is also capable of playing tackle.

After the draft, GM Brian Gutekunst called Morgan, “our kind of guy,” and cited his leadership qualities. He also called Morgan a “very athletic kid. Really sturdy strong lower body. Did 27 reps on the bench press, so he’s a really strong athlete. When you move inside, things move a little quicker and handle a little more power, and he’s certainly shown an ability to do that.”

With Josh Myers scheduled to become a free agent next month, there will be a starting job opening up along the offensive line. Morgan is a top candidate to fill that job. The Packers expect more from Morgan in his second season.

In the third round, the Packers added two players and neither saw much action as rookies. With the 88^th overall pick, the Packers added running back MarShawn Lloyd.

Injuries felled Lloyd almost from the beginning of camp. The USC alum only played one regular season game. That came in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts. He ran the ball six times for 15 yards and caught one pass for three yards. After that, injuries kept him out of the rest of the season.

The Packers coaching staff and front office were excited about what Lloyd could bring to the table. He has outstanding speed and cutback ability. Lloyd could give the Packers an ideal change of pace to starting running back Josh Jacobs who runs best between the tackles.

Head coach Matt LaFleur remains excited about Lloyd’s potential. “You could see his explosiveness on tape,” LaFleur exclaimed. “He would definitely add a dynamic to that room and that position. Any time you can create matchup problems in the passing game, that’s huge for you. He’s got a lot of explosive ability.”

The other third round pick was linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper. Unlike Morgan and Lloyd, Hopper stayed healthy throughout his rookie season. However, he didn’t see the field much. The Missouri alum played all 17 games for the Packers but didn’t start a game and only played 18 snaps on defense all season.

The Packers were excited about the physicality Hopper could bring to the defense along with the speed he could add to the lineup. But it took Hopper longer than expected to learn the defense and to stop making rookie mistakes. That combined with strong showings by veterans Eric Wilson and Isaiah McDuffie kept Hopper from receiving more playing time in his first NFL campaign.

Gutekunst was enthused by Hopper’s potential after the draft. “He’s really physical, he can run,” Gutekunst told reporters, “But his stopping power, when he takes on blockers, is pretty impressive. Very serious-minded guy, I think he really helped change that defense.”

Getting more from these three players in year two would be a big boost to the Packers lineup in 2025. It would almost be like adding three early round picks to the class of 2025 except these three players have already gone through a training camp and more in an NFL season. The Packers are hoping from more from these players in their second NFL campaigns.
