Good chat. This has to be the weirdest cutdown most of us can ever recall. There are usually a number of surprises, 2-4 players who come out of nowhere to make a 53 in GB. Despite not having preseason games, I'm thinking we still will see some movement of a couple of more familiar names in favor of youth, cap economy and the playing potential they bring.

I see a lot of people keeping Kumerow and EQ on this 53, and I question that. While I appreciate Kumerow's blocking, he still caught less than 60% of the targets that went his way last year. How much unavailability can EQ continue to display? He barely participated in camp. Are both players in that ER4/5 group, or WR 5/6? Could see one or both being let go. Ervin may actually be our current WR4 for his versatility.

Neither of Montravius Adams nor Treyvon Hester showed anything in camp. Both would probably qualify as the easiest cuts to make.

What about the economy cuts? I think it is safe to say there will be one or two unexpected cuts of veteran players to provide more cap space to re-sign other, more prominent players. The two players off the top of my head who most qualify would be Corey Linsley and Mercedes Lewis. Those would be tough cuts, but Gutekunst gets paid to make these tough decisions. I'm not saying I want that, as I really like both players. Both have extraordinary skills that they offer. I'm sure both players are in the discussion though, as they have Bakhtiari, Jones, Williams and King staring at them as potential FAs at season's end. Talk about a balancing act.

There are also players from other teams Gutekunst may want to sign after league-wide roster cuts. I fully anticipate to see an addition at DL, and possibly ILB.

We'll see.

Montravius Adams and Treyvon Hester didn't show anything because they were hurt all camp.

Yeah, but at some point, availability has to be given more weight.

Hollman. EQ. Burks. Adams... I do think there is an opportunity for some of these new guys that have shown promise. Can't make the team if you're always in the hot tub.

I get what you're saying, as Adams was considered highly gifted coming out of Auburn, and Hester was signed for some very positive attributes (hand work, motor, etc). I's just hoping we can do better there, and at a couple of other positions.

As a fan, I'm pulling for those guys who are ballin' every day, showing up every day, maybe for a full year on the PS or on another team to get another shot, fighting for their shot. Those players are hungry. Those are the guys that will make plays. Availability is big.

From a pure economics standpoint, I would imagine Gutekunst has considered that too. If he's spending money on guys who are always injured, then he has to spend more to add others to fill the roster. I've got nothing against any of the players I mentioned. These are just going to be really tough decisions.

We don't have many old guys left on this team so I'm not expecting any major surprises. EQ getting cut? No way. Cutting Monty would surprise no one. Cutting Billy Turner would surprise. Other than that, mostly ho-hum cutdown to 53.
