Packers vs. Lions Game Predictions from CheeseheadTV.com

 GAME PREDICTIONS Week 13

Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions

Name Record   Pick Prediction
Nagler 6-5 Detroit Lions 31-17
I see no reason to get cute with this prediction. The Lions are getting hot while the Packers are playing like crap. I fear another nationally televised embarrassment is on its way.
Czech 74 Green Bay Packers 23-18
A week after putting up 45 points against the Eagles, the Lions score their usual 18, only this time the Packers get the late touchdown to win it.
Bracco 7-4 Green Bay Packers 24-17
I suspected an upset last week, but thought the Favre/Starr euphoria would carry over to the team - I was wrong. The Packers find themsleves backed up against a wall again as they were after first losing to the Lions. They responded with a road win over the Vikings then and will do the same here. Only the banged up condition of the offensive line prevents me from picking an easier win.
Tallitsch 7-4 Green Bay Packers 31-17
The world rights itself as the Packers take this game in a big way.
Garda 6-5 Green Bay Packers 21-17
I feel like every time I pick for the Packers they lose, but like last week, it's hard for me to convince myself they lose to Detroit. Especially since they already lost to Detroit. It was a near thing last time and while this is on the road, I think the Packers pull it out. Defensively they have held the opposition to less than 20 points all three of the last games and while the offense has been up and down, I think they get above 20, which is going to get them the win. And if the Packers manage to lose you have my promise I will not pick them again this year which should finish out the year with no further losses.
Behnke 7-4 Green Bay Packers 60-0
Packers roll.
Jennerjohn 7-4 Detroit Lions 20-16
We're just going to have to realize that the inconsistent Packers is who this team is. Even if Aaron Rodgers dons his MVP cap, the receivers need to separate and haul it in. It also doesn't help that Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson are catching fire.
Perone 7-4 Detroit Lions 24-14
After last week, I can't give the Packers more than 14 points nor a win on the road.  I don't trust this team as much as Aaron Rodgers does his receivers.  They're inconsistent and if they can't bring it at home with Bart Starr and Brett Favre on the field, how can they win a big road game on national TV?
Snowden 7-4 Green Bay Packers 28-27
This is a must win game. And it's a game with the cards stacked against the Packers. The Lions looked strong at home on Thanksgiving versus a weak Eagles team and with the Packers still without Ty Montgomery and with both centers now questionable, this game has bad news written all over it. But since it is a must win game, I'm saying the Packers will win it. But if they do, it will be by the skin of their teeth (that or a massive blow out to prove us all wrong - please please please!!).
Albrecht 6-5 Detroit Lions 24-17
The Packers season is on the line, but that didn't seem to motivate them during the past month.

Tell me which Packers team shows up and I would have a more refined prediction. Not knowing that it came down to a coin flip - heads Packers win, tails Lions. It came up tails.

Reuter 6-5 Green Bay Packers 38-13
Matthew Stafford wants so bad to finally beat a team on the road that finishes the season over .500 that he practically lets the Packers win. Packers put it together finally and blow out an opponent. 38-13 Packers. Fun fact: Davante Adams' 79 receiving yards against Detroit week 10 were the most they've given up to one player since Diggs went for 108 yards in week 7.
Olson 7-4 Detroit Lions 24-17
Can the Packers go in to Detroit and do what they did at Minnesota? Possibly. It is obviously difficult for a team (Lions) to beat another team (Packers) twice in the same season. However, the way the Packers offense has been playing, there is no logical reason for me to pick the Packers to win.
Hobbes 7-3 Green Bay Packers 13-10
I know confidence in the Packers is at an all time low after an ugly loss to the Bears, but the Lions are even worse.  If the Packers can fix whatever it is that's losing them games they have the capability to win this one.
Strupp 5-6 Green Bay Packers 21-20
I'm being optimistic. I have no other option.
Kruse 7-4 Detroit Lions 24-17
Confidence in the Packers snapping out of the slump has been replaced with the reality of the situation. These are two teams going in opposite directions.

I missed you after the Minnesota game Cow.

So funny how you have to wait for the team to struggle to reappear.

And if the Packers win, you'll disappear again, like the child you are.

I cannot figure that out either. I have the Lions by at least 17. Stafford will light it up. Calvin has a sore ankle the last time but is looking good and moving now.
Two of the Lions top dbacks missed the last game but are back now.

No this will be the same game, lets run Lacy left run Lacy right and pass if we have to on third since our passing game sucks.

Then its Stafford finding the wide open receivers all night long as our dbacks look foolish (again).

I still wonder how anything can think highly or Clinton Ducks. He just stands around mostly and watches the game.

"Some of the Packers might have friends playing for Seattle, where on Tuesday center Drew Nowak was cut. He was a starter for the first two months of the season.

Or maybe they have a buddy in New England, where wide receiver Chris Harper was cut Monday less than 24 hours after fumbling away a punt in the snows of Denver.

It would be impossible to be complacent working for Pete Carroll and John Schneider in Seattle or Bill Belichick in New England.

Nowak was the 11th player released from the Seahawks' 53-man this season; nine have been cut from the practice squad.

Harper was the 12th player released from the Patriots' 53-man this season; 16 have been cut from the practice squad."

Both Nowak and Harper are back with the Seahawks and Patriots respectively.

Real hard hitting stuff there.

But keep linking to stuff that supports your intellectually dishonest BS so you don't have to do any actual critical thinking yourself. Mostly because I know that's beyond you.

Until proven otherwise, this Packers team is disgraceful. Detroit wins, score doesn't matter if we get swept by the lions.

God, i hope we pull it together... just little faith right now.

Everyone is confused as we are right now. NO ONE seen this coming. The one thing about Rodgers is, he keeps his private life really private. If something is going on that's keeping his head out of the game, he won't say. I'm grasping at fuckin straws here. When you see him make throws like the passes to Jones in the seachicken game and queens game, then miss easy ones? Something tells me its more mental than physical.
Anyway............GOPACKGO!

4th-1;
Why is it people love speculating into the netherworld. Fans like to sound brilliant with a bold analysis like "QB is just off this year" "doesn't like Janis" and "must be private life problems" "in a funk, and they'll get it goin". Wow, brilliant analytics. Horoscope has more sound basis than many on this site.

What ever happen to cause-and-effect analysis?

Imagine the implications if the team has porous Oline at beginning of season and QB gets hit hard. Effect: quicker passes, nervous, not seeing open receivers.
Secondary effect; opposing defenses tighten press coverage so there is no open quick hot reads;
Tertiary effect; more hits and more panic. Hard to hit timing routes. QB and receivers get flustered and less in sync.
Effect; forced passes, INTs, and confidence drops, more hesitation, lack of trust. Whole team gets edgey, finger pointing...so it spirals downward.
Or do you prefer to just grasp straws?

poru, so you think he's hearing footsteps? The trust issue makes the most sense to me. I really think AR was affected more than anyone when Jordy went down. The no deep threat has made it easy for teams to defend GB and Rodgers knows it. Besides Jordy out the other receivers are banged up too.

Minnesota > Lions.
We beat a good Minnesota team on the road. Which means we are capable.
The NFL is wierd.
Every time we think something is going to happen, the opposite happens.
This might be one of those years where domes help us.
Offensive line is injured but not absent.
Looked like we knocked some rust off at Minny but not all of it. This time we own Caldwell.
Last time it took a special teams play and three turnovers and we still almost beat them playing like garbage. We give zero turnovers this time and actually get some sacks and a QB hit for a pick on Stafford.
Pack 24-10.

Tell you what Cow, I've been here at Cheesehead for a long time. I've made 836 commnts counting this one but for the last 10 days I've pretty much stopped, you ruin the site. You're like a big zit on the ass, maybe worse because you're ust here to bust balls, not because you like the Packers or even football. Hell your word as a man isn't worth a crap, you've proven that cuz your back here.

BUT, I propose this...

If the Packers win you go away, stay away, and NEVER come back. If the Packers lose I'll go away. My word is good and I HAVE the Sack to propose it. Put your expert opinions and comments to the test Cow, you man enough? Is your word GOOD THIS time?

He's already bailed out on our team let him stay bailed out. Also, he has already proven that he cannot man up and honor his word so why take his word now? Don't make a deal with the devil Nick, it will be a lose-lose for all of us. Thanks, Since '61

Agreed. If you stop posting, then the site is weakened. It's a bummer when good posters check out because of someone else. Stop these kind of bets. It clearly doesn't work anyways. And that's a testament to faith and goodwill or lack thereof on someone's words and actions.

Cow can dig his own self loathing hole with that behavior. But you always have choices. Just don't read his stuff. I personally like reading it. It's a psychological study for sure. Or he's just having a strange fun attention game of his own. But whatever the reason......it doesn't have to affect any of us.

Admit it though.....most of you read it because you want to see what he'll say next. How sinister he can be. Total blog sensationalism.

No one is going to change him. Or his mind. Or his arguments. So why try. I usually try to use his points to add something to the convo...not to change him.

To that point, it does become less rewarding when posters have so many attacks. These add nothing to the site. And it certainly paints the attacker in a less than stellar light. It is possible to argue without attacking.

Thanks Bohj,
especially agree with your first and last paragraphs.

The personal attacks diminish the site, and I also chime in to Nick Perry to stick around.

Cow is way too pessimistic for me. Mostly his problem is what/how he states things. With a little effort on his part, I'd not wish him away either....but a little effort please, Cow and you wouldn't provoke such ire.

Thank you Since'61, Bohj, Fitzcore1252, WKU, Porupack, and everybody else I appreciate all the kind words and input. All of you are right, what's to say he'd honor what I proposed. It's a damn shame when there's 40 comments to a story and 25 are Cow's, that's what I'm tired of. If he EVER was a fan he wasn't a Packers fan. Packers fan stay true to their team, not bail on them after 23 years of success!!!

Over the last 4 weeks nearly everyone has said something bad/harsh/unrealistic against the Packers and then put the glasses on because someone else says what they already have or implied strongly.

I don't hate him, I object to him.

I object to personal attacks on players and coaches without underlying knowledge of the situation.

I object to someone who says they can "look into the eyes" of a player and determine he is "soft".

I object to bombasity for bombasity's sake.

I object to people being purposefully stupid. There are plenty of adult education classes available. Get some education and become a thinking human being.

Lacy could fumble. Tate could have 200 yards.
A hail mary could happen. Rodgers could have a good day for once. Those predictions don't interest me.

But let's stick to more productive arguments.
Our head to head matchup against the Lions.
I saw more of the same Lions. We gave up 18 points, but really only one touchdown drive. And that was late in the fourth quarter when our offense was gassed.

Our special teams gave up the other touchdown. I doubt they can replicate that again. So I don't really see the Lions moving on this D just because they beat us and a hapless Eagles D.

We have enough working parts to hold their one dimensional megatron offense to less than 20.
(Read: dead last in the league in rushing)
Teeing off on Stafford all day will result in an anemic offense for them. We held that offense to 12 points. 12 points!! Cow.

This time with a healthy and recently productive Lacy, I would think we can put up more than the putrid 16 points we mustered up last time. I predicted 24 points. Three tds and a Fg. That's not unreasonable. I imagine there are receivers on our team with something to prove. If they catch even three more balls than last time, drives stay alive, points are on the board. Who knows. It's a game of inches and a handful of plays. Even you know that.

Even Lions fans don't trust the Lions in this game as you seem to. So its not just rosey up in here.

Why do you think this is a fact? Saying they've quite and they have no heart is not backed by any solid argument. If they didn't have heart they would have gave up when they were down 27-7 vs. Carolina. If they had not fire they wouldn't been in a position to potentially win in Detroit.

Fact of the matter is your just a pure pessimist. In general Packers fans are amiable in nature and you don't fit the mold.

I'm fine with your negativity, I'm just not fine with you being an a$$hole in how you post about it.

I can't prove that they haven't checked out. But every press conference and every quote or online chat I've read about these players tells me they do care and want to win. If you can find me an example by one player that says there's quit in him please feel free to cite it so that I may be enlightened.

Your interpretation of "seeing it in their eyes" doesn't do it for me. I see frustration, not accusation. I see accountability.

And I quote Rodgers: "We've been talking it on the chin - rightfully so. I had a couple of really poor performances"

Even McCarthy has said he didn't have his team ready to play.

I just don't see "quit". I see accountability. And that's a testament to this team's character.

Whether they do well or not as the season finishes is yet to be seen, but your opinion about the heart of this team comes from you. My opinion about the heart of this team comes from the players' words and interaction with the fans and media.

The statistics clearly show that you're correct:

2015 Stats
Cobb: 53 rec, 672 yards, 11.8 average, 6 TDs
Tate: 59 rec, 552 yards, 9.4 average, 2 TDs

Oh, shoot! Well, it's obviously because Cobb has better WRs who help to draw coverage from him, and Tate does not. Right?

I don't comment everyday because for the most part everything has been said so I hit the like or dislike. Look at cow, he has over 8,000 dislikes. He loves it. I love to tell him off. He sucks. He doesn't believe most of his shit he just wants to piss on homers.

As for you porupack, I have never ever directed a comment towards you. If you are offended by any of my comments you deserve it. Go to church and beg for forgivness for what your eyes have seen. On the other hand this parasite troll named cow can say what he wants and he isn't getting a call out from you? If you fart a room with me I will call it shit, not poop. We are adults and we don't need to sugarcoat things. Cow is an ass, he wants to be an ass, and he gets off by being an ass. My language is probably better than what is said in the locker room.

I'm sorry to say that I have lost faith. At this point GB is going to wake up, win tomorrow, win the division, and make a deep playoff run. Or they'll tank the rest of the year. Except at WR and TE, they have the talent to be in the top 10 of every position group on the field. And 1st at QB. There's no reason for them to have to tank.

But unfortunately, they've shown no reason to have confidence in them to play up to their ability at all this year. So my best bet is that they screw the pooch once again tomorrow night.

Czech, Bracco, Tallitsch, Behnke, Snowden, Garda, Reuter, Hobbes and Strupp;
You guys might be right, you might be wrong, but none of you based your prediction on anything but wishes, hopes, and 'gottas', backs-against-the wall, 'must-win' 'badly wants to beat' .... blah, blah.
So if you're right....well, can't credit you much.

Garda is the only one that mentions a rational cause for prediction (the defense).

The predictions are hardly worth reading. I wish and hope too, but why should I just read your wish and hope just because you wish and hope.

The problem I see is that the team is a mess. Since week 4 the offense has been struggling. Defenses have figured out how to slow the offense down, and basically any mistake that the offense makes, they are not good enough to overcome.
The biggest problem is that they haven't made any adjustments to how defenses are playing them right now. They still haven't figured out that they can't play their offense the same way they did when they had Nelson. They have to do more schematically to beat defenses. They don't do that.
They also don't stick with what works, and don't build off of what is working. Like the Bears game, the run game was working great. Bears couldn't stop it. So why didn't they continue to run the ball, and build off of that strong run game with more play action passes? They are struggling in how to attack teams schematically.

Until the play calling gets fixed, its going to continue to haunt this offense. The scripted drives have been good, and the final drives have been good in games. What is the main difference between then and the middle part of the game? The play calling. First plays are scripted, the end of the game is in hurry up with Rodgers making the calls at the LOS. Anyone that doesn't see that isn't watching the game.

The betting man would be wise to pick the Lions in this game. The last 3 weeks they have played much better, and the Packers have not played well.

I am going to make my first prediction of the year. Packers defense has been good. Very good actually. They are averaging around 19 points a game. The last 3 games they are averaging 14 points a game.

I think the offense gets a little back on track this week, with help of the defense.

Packers - 27
Lions - 17

If they don't win this game, Its going to be a long rest of the season.

I believe the Packers can afford 1 more loss and comfortably reach the playoffs. 10-6 puts them in the wildcard realm and skirting the edge when it comes to tie-breakers. I don't believe the Packers can afford for this game to be their 1 loss, with the Cardinals and Raiders looming on the horizon. Therefore, I'll say this is a must win. If they don't, I think the season, while not over, has the potential to spiral downward rather quickly.

I think the offense will have to carry the team to victory tonight given the fact that Detroit's offense has come alive. The Packer defense, while playing at a championship level (at least well enough to compete for a championship) may be due for a clunker. It will be interesting to see how Capers and Co. match-up with Theo Riddick in 3rd down situations. I suspect quite a bit of dime a very little of Nate Palmer in those situations.

The world will know after the 3rd offensive series if the Packer offense has made the changes McCarthy alluded to, despite saying the media wouldn't be able to tell. 3rd and medium to short situations will be very telling.

'It will be interesting to see how Capers and Co. match-up with Theo Riddick in 3rd down situations. I suspect quite a bit of dime a very little of Nate Palmer in those situations.'

That is the matchup I am most worried about to be honest. The way they are using Riddick is exactly what I wish Green Bay could do in their offense. Problem is they really only have 1 guy that can do it right now and that is Montgomery. Cobb is great in that role but the problem right now is they don't have any other WR threats.

In that matchup Paul, who would you put in to cover Riddick? I personally would like to see them use Rollins and have him cover him. Riddick is more of a WR then RB. I think he is to quick for the LB's and Safety's. What are your thoughts on this?

There are a couple of ways to account for Riddick and, in my opinion, both ways should be utilized. When Detroit comes out in 10 or 11 Personnel and Riddick in the backfield, I would send pressure from the edges in the form of overloads to force him to stay in and protect. This can be accomplished with man pressures or fire zones. Now, should Detroit decide to use scat protection, allowing Riddick to release in the face or away from these pressures, making Stafford throw hot to him, the Packers will need to assign a spy in the form of a peel blitzer. In other words, someone in the rush scheme would be required to peel off from the blitz and cover. In any event, Green Bay will need mix their coverage and pressure looks effectively in these situations.

That has been the problem with this offense. The first couple of series have been good, but after that they fall into a funk doing the same thing over and over again.

IMO, the only way we will see if they changed anything is if they start using more formations other then their 11 personnel.

How about this for a 3rd and short. Line up in the Pistol with a FB. Play action pass to the FB. As soon as LB's are crashing and realize its a play action they will be out of position to stop the FB on a check down pass. That would become my bread and butter play on short yardage.

Sounds well and good until the rush is in Rodgers face so fast that all he can muster is a dead bouncer at the feet of Kuhn or Rip....

Given the predictability of the offense in 3rd and short and the PA type (zone stretch with QB boot) I'm not a fan of play action in this situation for Green Bay. A little Hound 2/3, Fox 2/3 or Fire 2/3 protection would be nice. Straight on man blocking look giving Rodgers the ability to keep his eyes down field the entire time. I'm a big fan of waggle looks, using the guard as a puller in the pass blocking scheme to give the appearance of run. Although, that would require the offense to use more gap blocked runs, which they have the capability of running.

Could you explain this in more detail. I'm not that knowledgeable. Thanks

He is saying that he would like to see more man blocking than zone blocking. it's play design stuff. The pulling guard is good idea because it can make the opposing defense think you are running rather than throwing. He goes on to say that in order for that to work we would need to block our running plays with man too (we are primarily a ZBS on runs), otherwise it turns into a dead giveaway that we are passing.

Lions moneyline is a great bet tonight! Mashed Potato Mike will either lose the team and the season tonight or save the season. If he loses the season we all know that the entire organizations stubborn loyalty will be on full display as nobody will be held accountable. You know, the same reasoning that had Slocum on the payroll after a half dozen seasons of ST units finishing in the bottom 3rd of the league and costing the team W's by failing in huge spots...."Stay the course"

"The Packers have played great defense the past two weeks trending up and the offense especially the running game is also starting to show some life."

If the Lions score 35 points then our defensive upward trend has halted and that would negate any further gain in the run trend as Rodgers will be passing to Adams 30 times...yippee!

Oops...sorry taryn...didn't see your post. Pretty much said the same thing. She's not wrong in response to trump. She said "if". Doesn't mean she thinks this will happen. It was trump that said we would give up 35.

No need...as you helped prove my point with some here. You said exactly what I did and it was me who received the attempted insults. I purposely didn't post my comment to Trump as a direct reply as I knew no matter what/where I post it here, the same buffoons will detect and attack.

This is what they want to read at all times.

The Packers are great even if they lose out. They will always be the best team that didn't win and this thinking should be a standard of acceptance to all and those who shall not adhere to this rule shall be ridiculed forever and labeled a 'TROLL'.

"I purposely didn't post my comment to Trump as a direct reply"

But, you used those little things called "quotation marks", so... that was kinda dumb, not sure what you were trying to accomplish there?

Anyhew, this Bafoon has seen your posts for years. Your style is always to "attempt" (usually fail) to have a whitty, semi-unpopular, long winded post that is often times unreadable.

Taryn, i guess what I'm trying to say is... I'm not a fan of your schtick.

Good day sir.

The Wheels start coming off the Packers wagon tonight. Other than a weak Dallas team I see no one ahead including the Lions the packers can defeat because the coaching staff see's nothing wrong on defense or offense but knows how to use the injury report as excuses for their lack of coaching abilities.

I will say it is hard to trust this years version of the Green Bay Packers. Even when they were 6 & 0 I thought the whole team seemed disjointed, lethargic and seemed to lack a sense of urgency. Of course we are all looking at this from the outside, but sometimes things come too easy and a slice of "humble pie" can be just what the doctor ordered. I am hoping tonight is the night when all of the pieces come together, if not this could be the game that breaks this team into pieces. I am keeping the faith however and predicting a 35-21 Packer victory.
Go Pack!

Not to be a downer but I just read this

"Since the 1968 season, the only year in which the Packers’ leading tight end averaged fewer than 8.0 yards per reception was 2008, when Donald Lee caught 39 passes for 303 yards – a 7.8-yard average."

That is about to happen again. RRodgers is at 7.3. No surprise really. Hope RRodgers does not play much tonight. Then again maybe he will be faster on turf.

"Then again maybe he will be faster on turf"

The problem is everyone else maybe faster too.

Richard Rodgers AKA DickRod, slow, poor blocker and weak and outside of short passes in the Red Zone fairly worthless. What works in college often does not in the pros. Much better players in the NFL, so if you're not elusive or fast - just big- you're a sitting duck. You'd think he could block then, but can't even do that.

Since I get into the draft, like I suspect a lot of posters here do, I was eagerly awaiting Teds third round selections in the 2014. Imagine my shock when he picked both Thornton and R Rodgers, two guys I barely heard of instead of from a pool of a couple dozen prospects I was hoping he might go after.

WTF, I thought to myself. Don't mind that he took those two, but he needs to do a better job of judging a players worth relative to the rest of the market. Take these guys in the sixth or seventh, not the third. If someone grabs them ahead of you then accept it. You still would have the other third-rounders you picked instead of them.

And to make matters worse he took Bradford in the fourth. Still not an overall bad draft, but could have been much better if he hit on even one of the third or fourth rounders.

All painfully true. As for RRodgers I had the crazy thought he would be faster, meaning he could pick up 5 yards instead of his usual 2 before he immediately goes down. Sad.
