Packers sign guard Dejon Allen
Dejon Allen, a University of Hawaii product, was originally signed by the Chicago Bears last year.
By PackerAaron
The Packers announced the signing of former Bears practice squad player, Dejon Allen.
Allen, a 6-foot-2, 300-pound first-year player, played in 50 games with 49 starts and earned all-conference honors each of his last three seasons at the University of Hawaii.
He was originally signed by the Chicago Bears on May 11, 2018 as an undrafted free agent. He spent his rookie season on the practice squad of the Bears and was released on May 3, 2019.
He will wear No. 68 for the Packers.
Allen logged 97 pass-blocking snaps with the Bears during the 2018 preseason, allowing only (2) pressures.
During college career at Hawaii, Allen played LT and RG. Also had the 4th highest pass-blocking grade (87.6) among LT in 2018 draft class. #Packers https://t.co/2qaGn0T5dN

I mean, it seems pretty obvious...

Bears suck even more now that we have another one of theirs and playbook knowledge

Yeah, he’s helping to prepare us for the opener.
I think our OL is pretty good right now, frankly.

I think he is a PS audition. Smaller, 290 lbs, very athletic lineman with pass blocking skills. Chicago has him as a Center and that seems logical unless he has added weight.
If Patrick or McCray do not make the roster we loose center and guard depth as they aren’t roster eligible. Need to have prospects in case not everything falls right with PS invitations too.

This makes me wonder about how scouting actually works. Perhaps they wanted to sign him as an UDFA last year but he signed with the Bears. Nevertheless they have kept their eye on him to pick him up when available. (Or maybe they just like his Tinder profile)

This could be a move in anticipation of a trade or release of one of our OLs. Maybe they are checking him out for the PS.
I doubt if he has had a chance to learn any of the offense to play in tonight’s game. We’ll soon know if he lasts longer than enough time for a cup of coffee.
Thanks, Since ‘61

I like your take on this most recent acquisition of marginally interesting offensive line talent.

I try not to learn the names of OL until they've started 3 games in a row and gotten good grades from PFF.
Then I hope they become a fixture for a decade so I don't have to learn the names of (m)any others.

At 6-2 290 I don't think he cuts the mustard.

A bit puzzling, because I thought they had better backups and better PS squad candidates. Do they need the body for tonight's game? As far as learning something from him on the bears offensive plan, that seems limited, since he was released in May.
