Gutekunst has tried over and over again to improve the CB situation in Green Bay. He has failed. Maybe they should let someone else try.

Why MUST he do anything differently given that his boss is perfectly happy with his 8-year record as the Pack's GM?

We need a lot, so take your pick. I'll go with two OL, two DL, one CB, and a blocking TE. Oh, and a developmental QB if Willis leaves... That cornerback needs to be as close as possible to being able to contribute, so I don't think we can afford any projects here.

The signing of Hobbs didn't make any sense. He can be cut, but there's more savings if we wait. Or he can linger around for another season with the hope his performance will rebound, but what's the point?

Cornerback is the perfect position to need when you don't have a number one draft pick. It is a highly volatile position with ups and downs no matter where you are drafted. Go for quantity in late rounds and UDFA's and let them compete. Concentrate on the DL and OL for your higher remaining draft choices. Clearly the DL get's worn down as game goes on, all the stats show it. I would keep drafting OL every single year in mid rounds and find a coach who can develope them, Mike Wahle anyone?

CB needs to be upgraded, but even so, the Packers finished the year 11th in pass yards/game. They were 17th in run yards/game. The Packers Safeties are a strength of the team and will be for awhile.

The DL was a greater loss of focus by Gutey in my opinion...especially with incredibly deep 2025 DL draft class he ignored in the first two days.

Someone else needs to choose CB, OL and DL players-these postions are too important to let Gute choose again, unsupervised

CB is a problem. It's important to note, the pack did sign former all pro Diggs in week 17. He's no savior, but he is likely better than any of our starters once he's been through training camp and a #2 starting CB. I know he needs a new contract and that's manageable. Nixon is wearing out his welcome, so a high pick is needed. Also, our future #2 QB is on the roster in Ridder. He's entering his 4th year after being a 3rd rnd pick in 2022. Far more preferrable to any pick likely available this draft in the 5th round or later. So, another DB or 2 certainly, but no QB needed unless a 7th rnd psquad development guy.

My OL preference is to simply draft a center. Someone like Iowa's Logan Jones who can step in and play immediately. This allows Ryan to move back to guard and let's Belton and Morgan compete at LT. At 6'6" 335, Belton is much more suited to LT than Morgan and he's outplayed Morgan when given the opportunity at guard. Of course, he has to win the job. Starters then would be Belton, Banks, Jones, Ryan, and Tom. Backups are Morgan T/G, Kinnard T, Ryan C. Easy fix and add depth deeper in the draft because our depth is sad.

On the Dline, Wyatt is coming back for a D that performed quite well when and he and Parsons were available. No crazy need here, just get healthy. Draft a DT for depth to go with the numerous free agent and practice squad signings already made.

Were you being serious when you made it seem the loss of Alexander was a major loss for the defense? He had been hurt for large chunks of the previous season since 2021 (2022 was an outlier). As you noted, none of the other 31 teams were interested in trading for him. Baltimore picked him up off of waivers, and then he effectively retired from the Eagles in November.
What the Packers need to do is find football players who are corners, guys who can come in and contribute immediately, and not be great athletes with "promise" who need to "develop their game". This won't be easy, but that is why these people get paid.

Packers say they are draft and develop but there are too many draft mistakes coupled with sub-par positional coaches, particularly OL and LB. Packers messaging does not align with their actions. They've had to go the FA route to make up for D&D fails.

Now his defence improved quite a bit but many guys didnt. What I did like was the fact that we tackled much better. We had as Urhlacher would say no loafs - and gang tackled better. But we had a lack of discipline and nobody got benched - NIXON. We did dumb things - like catching INT on a 4th down long pass ( you could fumble ) just to get an INT stat. I also felt that we playing too soft coverage at inappropriate times. Now we played some great games against teams that we match up against well - but I know about injuries - Ravens wasnt one of them. TT for years. tried to upgrade the backfield - but unless you have pressure on the QB - that is hard to do. But with a good Dline to stop the run and with a pass rush - as long as the team tackles on those sweeps and screens ( which we did a pretty good job except for a few cases) - then we can compete. So I am in favor of picking the best player available where we are drafting and not necessarily a D back . I would also hope that we find a running back as we are thin there - since our O line has holes.

Concentrate on the Defensive Line first, to win consistently you have to stop the run problem #1, If that improvement also includes more pass rush from the front 4 coupled with our generational addition returning to health the level of corner back play can be average. Look at in the first half of the season the number of breakups both Nixon and Valentine had. Both can play with the return of Parson's and pass rush upgrades from the front 4 and linebackers. That also lets our two top tier safeties to play closer to the line of scrimmage. As several have posted before, build the trenches first.

We are all in agreement we need corners. To Gute can’t draft them is not correct; Alexander was great then the injuries, Stokes had a great rookie year and also got injured. I hear he a good year this year with the raiders. There have been misses for sure. I do agree to draft several in later round and sign as many as possible. The premier positions in the NFL are, (arguably or not) QB, pass catcher, pass protector, pass rusher, and pass coverman.
Gutey has picked Love, Morgan, Golden, Gary, LVN, Alexander, and Stokes in those positions. He has DEFINITELY prioritized those premier spots in rd 1, with mixed results. But Alexander and Stokes are the only ones in 2025 that contributed NADA to GB. Thus, the need to improve the room. With limited picks and cap, this will be a very interesting off-season.

Looking at the 2026 salary cap, it would cost $4.8M in dead cap and save $24M by releasing Jenkins.
Also, if we keep Trevon Diggs, it's $15M but there's no dead cap involved in releasing him.

So those two moves, alone, would create almost $40M in cap space and only cost $5M in dead money. Gary would be $17M in dead money to create $28M in cap space.

Yup, they need to draft a corner. But lets not forget about the salary cap. As I read it, the Packers are now more than $8 million OVER the cap with the recent signing of T. Diggs. Diggs is an interesting call. He has the ability and along with it a mighty ego and price tag. If they can rework his deal it would lessen the burden at corner. They might just say 'thanks but no thanks" too. The risk might be too high.

If they keep him it comes with a mighty....BUT...which is some players would have to go to make room for Diggs.

The Packers are capped this season and some starters will have to be let go in free agency---or cut---to sandwich under the cap.

The only position groups that are pretty good are Safety and Running Back.
Mckinny and Jacob’s were two quality signings by Gute.

Need to get better/add depth at every other position. After 8 years of Gute that’s not good. It’s got very little to do with development.

The rookie draft rankings this year had us 29th out of 32. This article should be about moving Gute to a different role or firing him.

Isn't he a little late for this? I thought we were "strong" at that position? Same with OT and DL? I'm sure he will reach for some guy with multi-positional upside, no previous production, but high RAS and the potential to make Gutey seem like he is smarter than all comers.
