I was always taught that it was against the rules to push a teammate who had the ball. . When Bart had his famous sneak in the Ice Bowl, Chuck Mercein was holding his arms up so that the ref wouldn't call him for pushing (true story).
Can you, or can you not, push your teammate forward like this? I think it's yes or no, and I hope it's no. It is unexciting to watch this. Carried to the extreme, you'd just get the biggest, strongest dudes possible and line up 11 and push your way up the middle. Boring.
Those 4th and short are big, big plays even though they only cover a yard or two. If you fail, it's a turnover. If you succeed, you are often rewarded with points. If you want to run a sneak, fine, but people shouldn't be allowed to push you.

I'm not fan either LH. Happy the Packers have asked to have it banned.

I just heard on ESPN radio on the way to work that it was illegal for a defender (for safety reasons) not to push another defender trying to block a kick. It's still actually illegal to engage with/pull a ball carrier, they just stopped calling it. I don't know why it was the Packers that challenged this when they do their own (safer version) using the TE with great success.

I did a quick search, and pushing the ball carrier was legalized in 2005...it's just that it hasn't become an actual play until recently.
You are correct, though, in that it is illegal for teammates to pull or lift a ball carrier.

100% correct on Chuck Mercein in the Ice Bowl. It was the Bush Push with Reggie Bush and Matt Leinert on Oct 15, 2005 that brought it back. All of sudden it was too difficult to call but that was a load of BS. It was obvious on that play and every play since. It is why I still call it the Bush Push as that is where it came back.

murphy has made the packers look ridiculous all over the league. what a shame, they are all laughing at the packers because they lost on the field and they want to try to stop the eagles with rules.
what a shame.
