After sustaining a knee injury and dropping out of practice yesterday, defensive lineman Mike Neal has assured the fanbase and the media that he's okay. "It's nothing," Neal told Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "I just fell down. Nothing's torn at all. I just have a little inflammation. Everybody's tripping out for no reason. I'm not on crutches or anything. I'm walking perfectly fine." According to Dunne, Neal went on to say that he'll probably be brought along slowly by the trainers. I wouldn't expect to see him practice the rest of this week or play in Friday's game for that matter either.

The headline of an Associated Press article is a reminder that Mike Neal will have a couple tests done to determine the extent of the injury. "Packers coach Mike McCarthy said the defensive end will have an MRI and other tests done," according to the article. McCarthy will probably give an update on Neal following practice today.

As of last night, Mike Neal was recuperating from his supposedly minor injury. "By 6 o’clock Tuesday evening, the Green Bay Packers second-year defensive end was comfortably nestled in his basement hyperbaric chamber, reading the Tweets of concern from his burgeoning fan base and breathing in pure oxygen that allegedly will help heal the knee injury that wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been," writes Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com. According to the article, Neal said he's waiting to hear from a doctor this morning.

Cornerback Sam Shields was named in a lengthy expose by Yahoo Sports as one of many athletes from the University of Miami who received impermissible benefits from a booster. "(Nevin) Shapiro told the website that he gave Shields a 42-inch Toshiba flat screen television, and provided him drinks and VIP access in nightclubs as well as food, drinks and entertainment at Shapiro's $6 million Miami Beach mansion." Because it happened in college, it's difficult to see the NFL or the Packers reprimanding Shields.

As part of an interview that presumably occurred before the release of the Yahoo Sports report, Sam Shields is featured in an article by Kareem Copeland of the Press-Gazette. Cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt shared his thoughts on Shields. “I would have loved to have my hands on him (during the lockout) because he’s still so raw and in the early parts of his career,” said Whitt. “He’s rare. He’s rare with his ability to bend and pedal and really loves the game. We got lucky with him." According to the story, one of Shieds' next goals is the Pro Bowl and another Super Bowl ring.

In a column by Mike Vandermause of the Press-Gazette, he writes wide receiver Donald Driver wants to start, but would relinquish the starter's role if necessary. "Driver is realistic enough to know he can’t play forever," writes Vandermause. "He is humble enough to accept a smaller role in the offense, if asked. He even would settle for a nonstarting position if that’s what the Packers wanted." As long as Driver can be reasonably productive, he should continue to get the starting nod for the Packers.

In addition to the injury to Mike Neal, safety Anthony Levine––who's had a good start to training camp––sustained an injury as well after a collision with Pat Lee. "Lee made it to his feet first, but Levine took much longer," writes Kareem Copeland. "He was helped to the sideline and left practice. Lee was able to return to drills." The extent of Levine's injury is as of yet unknown.

Offensive lineman Chris Campbell will be out for a few weeks following surgery. "Backup tackle Chris Campbell had surgery for torn meniscus in his knee and will be out for about two more weeks, according to his agent," writes Pete Dougherty of the Press-Gazette. Campbell may have been considered for one of the final spots on the Packers' roster, but this surgery and time missed will be a major setback for him.

Bob McGinn of the Journal Sentinel assesses the odds that some of the players on the fence make the Packers' 53-man roster.

Tomorrow's practice is intended to teach the younger players on the roster, according to Mike McCarthy.
