Is MLF coaching for his job?

If Ed Policy is fine with 2nd & 3rd place finishes in the NFC North and nothing higher than 7th seeds in the playoffs (which MLF has achieved the past 4 seasons), MLF has nothing to worry about.

If Policy’s goal is returning the Packers to a Super Bowl, MLF may well be in jeopardy.

Yeah that, and MLF's highly touted December W/L record just took a huge shit!

Gary was drafted to play in 3-4 system. Not 4-3 system

Gary will thrive in a 3-4 system. Maybe we need some 3-4 looks the rest of the way since short on linemen

I am baffled as to why Hopper has been unable to get way more snaps. Same for Stackhouse. Am I to conclude they must be really bad, can’t crack the playbook, etc. to not have playing time on this defense?

Just trade him or cut him, he's never been worthy of his first round status, and he's made the pro bowl once, in a 4-3 system! Why would anyone think he'll thrive somewhere else, or that GB should change the system for his sake?

I ask myself this: would I be daunted if LaFleur was magically the HC of a division rival? Having watched his teams over the years and rosters and how those seasons ended, the answer is no.

If so, retaining him is ridiculous and nothing more than a fear of change, individual fandom or just blind faith unsupported by evidence.

"Nothin more than a fear of change"

Bingo. As I've said before, it's as if the entire world of coaching from the NCAA level to the NFL is completely devoid of talent to run an NFL team. And I'll add better than what we have now. And it's the fear of start over as well, ignoring the fact that the hated Ben Johnson has just got the Bears to win the division. Can't wait to hear the qualifiers.

The Bears have had the benefit of drafting high because of their years of losing. And they have drafted well and made some smart free agency/trade acquisitions as well. They got coaching this year that was able to put it all together.

It's about the same thing that was said about the Lions, until this year. They got two great years under Dan Campbell but without a Super Bowl and now where are they?

Chicago could. be following the same script.

And yet a common denominator is Ben Johnson. Lions were 3-13-1 before he became OC. 2nd in division his 1st year as OC, then 1st, then 1st again. When he left, the Lions crashed. The Bears were 5-12 last year and yet in his first year with essentially the same roster are 11-5 and clinched the division. Superior coaching matters, as much as I hate that it's the Bears. I would not be surprised if the old rivalry is back for more than a couple of years.

Time will tell. They thought they had something big with Matt Nagy a few years ago. Johnson didn't exactly distinguish himself in the Lions' home playoff loss to Washington last year. The Packers had him beat twice this season but only coughed up the second one. It's been grand for him this year but I'd wait for another 2 before bringing in a verdict.

The chickens are coming home to roost.

Packers are now with their backs against the wall with no Cap and too many under-achieving players (for the forseeable future), particularly Gary, LVN, Valentine, Hobbs, Banks, Nixon, Wooden, Sorrell and many more. There are 10-12 players who pull the majority of the weight-Parsons, Kraft, Jacobs, Doubs, Watson, Love, Reed, Tom, Cooper, Williams& MacKinney. There are way too many under-performers whom we are asked to look the other way as they were chosen early or given huge contracts.
I am not as sanguine as Andy. Much of this predicament could have been avoided by better player choice, both in the Draft and in FA and coaching.

So, NFLfan,
It kinda' looks like what you're saying is that for the near future at least, the light at the end of the tunnel is quite possibly an oncoming train! Did I read that right?
I feel the same way, but I blame all of the Three Stooges! Murphy's #1, he let it happen, after that it's Gutey and MLF in either order, it doesn't matter!

I'm praying that Ed Policy is a lot like his dad.

Just to let you down gently, Ed Policy is not his dad, Carmen Policy; he likely won't change the status quo if he wishes to be liked and accepted by the Titletown/Packer 'in-crowd'.
Justis Mosqueda said it well today: " We are in the good times this year". Next year there is no Cap for FA expenditures, no first-round picks, no Jenkins, Gary (that's a good thing), no Doubs, R. Walker, possibly no Q Walker, no solution for the corner-back room (no $$$)
Decline, decline, decline for the next 3-4 years, esp with Gutekunst and MLF back in the saddle.

I’m an NDSU fan, and you probably realize the Bison went undefeated in the regular season and then got bounced in their first playoff game. I think I’ll defer on their head coach.

The definition of insanity? doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Like not worrying about making your special teams special.

Good is the enemy of great. I just don't see MLF leading the Packers to greatness. If they are going to make changes, they might as well hire a new GM as well so the coach and GM are on the same contract length.

It's simple...make Whelan punt. Packers lose when he doesn't punt in a game.

You wanted MM Gone.
You wanted Rodgers Gone.
MLF navigated both.
And still developed Love and Willis.
Yet- one of the most winning coaches
in the NFL is not good enough here.
You saw what happened to the chiefs this year.
You saw when Tony Dungy left the colts.
Obviously the high expectations are Madden
and Lombardi.
And both of them, knew when to leave too.
Truthfully if you Love Gute that much.
Get him to trade MLF.
But you can't; because Gute would be next.

Sometimes a coach makes a defining moment decision that seals his fate. MLF made that decision in the loss to the Ravens when he he went for it on 4th and 1 from the Packer's own 35 yardline. Want to see that play again? How about next week? How about in the playoffs? How about in some future key game? That call and that horrible play sealed our doom. Players can't outplay bad coaching. Enough already!

With the growing disenchantment of the HC + the increased scrutiny of the GM + the unknown of a new President = a prime opportunity to start a new era. An era that could see the import of new ideas, perspectives and thoughts. While essentially bringing an end to the Wolf era - with it's philosophies, practices and production - which may have become outdated.

I said previously that I wanted MLF fired if he did not make it to the NFC championship. Injuries have derailed that potential and I’ve changed my position. Fire him if we don’t win a playoff game against the bears (I’ll forgive him should he lose to the Eagles/Rams/Seahawks/9rs).
Many disagree, but I have much more faith in Guty than MLF.
Someone previously mentioned “signature” wins under MLF—I remember only one; and imo that is the threshold. In addition, we have lost too many games to what most consider inferior opponents.
The Mo Drayton saga and continued special team pitfalls, plus the frequent team blunders in crucial moments, suggests lack of focus and attention to detail, i.e., coaching.
Moreover, seldom have I witnessed the so-called innovative genius of MLF.
I believe there are other coaches available that would do as well or better.
Also agree with many of you that the GM must run the show—not a panel or committee.
In any case, I don’t see the Packers moving on from LaFluer.
Go Packer!!! …beat the bears again!!!

MLF’s playoff record is 3-5. If he wins WC round it would be 4-5, if he wins Divisional round 5-5. If he loses WC round it’s 3-6. Unless he makes it to the NFCCG it’s adios amigo. Same for Gute.
