Both teams regard. this opener as a "statement" game. Detroit wants to stake its claim to still be top dog in the division and to once again being a prime Super Bowl contender in the NFC. The Packers need to contest that claim and stake their own to the same.

The fast or strong start is going to be crucial. In the last four meetings the team that achieves that has won the game. Unfortunately in 3 of those it's been the Lions. We have attributed much of that to the "youth" of the Packers but even though they are still a young team youth can't be an excuse any longer. Most of the roster has one to two or in some cases 3 years in the league now and veteran experience and leadership has been added as well.

Last year the Packers got the benefit of an unexpectedly favorable schedule of match ups outside the division but they won't have that this season. Almost every week is a game with a playoff team or contender. Home field success, especially versus NFC North opponents is likely to be critically necessary to progress above the last two seasons' attainment or even to maintain it.

In most of the recent Packers-Lions games it's been Detroit most on the offensive in all 3 phases of the game. Particularly at Lambeau. Their fans have even taken over the crowd in the Packers' house. That must change today. The season won't e won or lost just by this one game for either club but the statement will be made. And an important advantage gained with the win.

God, I hate it when offenses get away from what works! Det couldn't stop the pass in first half, so here we are running the ball and a 3 and out. Stupid play calling.
