Eric Wilson has been great over the last 2 games. For me, he seems to cope with the responsibility much better. I’d like to see Quay and Cooper share the other two roles. I think that might free up Walker to just play and increase our speed and coverage potential over McDuffie. McDuffie is a great 4th ILB, but I’m not convinced he is a starter caliber athlete.
I was hopeful Stokes would play himself back into form, but on the basis that Hafley would use a lot of press coverage, whether zone or man. Neither have happened. Valentine too is better suited to press, but the difference isn’t as great. It’s time to either let Stokes do what he does or bench him if that’s not what we need.
Where I differ from you is in Nixon. I’m fine with him outside against non traditional passers or teams that don’t stretch the field on the perimeter for lack of talent at QB and WR, but not against more accomplished deep passers. PFF was right in noting that Nixon was every bit as bad as Stokes last week.
To me, the real need and solution is for Hafley to realize that, with the tools he has, he needs to amend how he uses his corners, at least this season. We do not have the players to thrive at what he’s asking them to do most of the time.
The one who might improve on softer coverage is Rochell, but he’s done unless they bring him on to the roster now and Hafley hasn’t shown any interest in trying him on D in games, despite his preseason performances. I think that’s a wasted opportunity given Hafley’s approach to corner play.

I am actually surprised to see Walker not flourishing this year under Hadley? More so than Hadleys' more aggressive schemes, I felt that under the tutelage of LB coach Camponile, Walker would really develop? Maybe he'll unlearn bad habits from the Barry years and still become a premier LB? I hope so. Until then, we are seeing great play from Wilson. Maybe fewer snaps and watching from the sidelines will help Quay become more motivated to play at a higher level?
