Agree on Dillion - Different directions
Agree on DeGuara - Davis can go too.
Keep Runyan - He plays through injuries
Dump Yosh and Newman
Nixon is a starter- Keep him. Val stays.
Packers will get raided- at safety
Ford ,Savage, and Owens get better deals
Gutey would pay savage first.
And see what a new DC does with him.

--Agree with most of your list, but Savage will be too expensive for his output, if not he could come back because he is young and experienced.
--Luckily, we don't have any major free agents, have many picks, and some cap space for a free agent.
-- S and G are major needs followed by T, RB, CB, run stuffer DT, ILB.

I know we have needs.
But if they don't want to draft a specific position.
You could see all these guys get re-signed.

As long as they want to remain Packers.
The beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

After Lowrey got paid.
You just never know with Gute now.

I'd target the player, more than the position, this draft.

There not gonna pay Nixon big money to be a ST guy. He’s a liability on defense.

He's not an all pro slot, but hes aggressive, tackles, and makes a play here and there. He's a guy I'd want unless somebody really pays him.

I pretty much agree with all of this. With one caveat that I think I value Nixon more highly. It’s not just what he can do on returns but what doesn’t happen when he’s back there. My memory is good enough that I don’t want to go back to hoping it’s not muffed every kick and I want a valid option on punts that’s not Reed.

I also think that I value him a little higher as a DB by late in the year but I also think he could be used better situationally as a rusher and quasi box safety. I’d agree that we need a better pass coverage option to develop in the slot, but Nixon is a valid dime and run game DB in my opinion. If a team wants to pay him big money, then pass, but I don’t think the 4 million he got last year was a bad deal. I’d repeat that.

As to Savage, it depends on what the new DC wants. If he wants a robber type then maybe we keep him on an incentive laden deal if the market isn’t strong. I’d also keep Wilson for the 90. He’s a good 4th ILB and a ST standout regardless of age. Both he and the other ILB were worth it on STs, but only Wilson has shown that he is ok on D at this point. They are both sufficiently good on STs that I want both around.

Those aside, I generally agree that we have to move in to get better. Runyon I would perhaps consider bringing back if we know his injuries were the root problem with true certainty. Otherwise go young and cheaper. I’d only bring Dillon back if he’s willing to play fullback. He’s a better lead blocker than Pearson and has decent hands and protects well. Up to him, but that could be his best route to a long career. Having Dillon in that role might make it easier to just look for Jones type depth.

In theory, we could hire a new DC who'd bring a new DB coach in to manage the secondary. That would make the decisions on Savage, Owens, and Nixon. If we resign them, it's essentially saying that they're plenty good enough to win with and were just poorly coached.

Personally, I'd try to keep Owens because he wouldn't be too expensive. Savage, on the other hand, is going to be too expensive, IMO. Nixon.....since I'm a guy who doesn't think kicks and punts should be returned, his special teams ability don't weigh very much. As a CB, you wouldn't want him in your Top 3 on a permanent basis. His veteran presence is worth something, but he should be getting the vet minimum, and not much more.

Let Deguara and Dillon leave in FA. Draft a stud RB on Day 2 of the draft. IMO, we could retain Runyan for a modest deal. He's a vet, he's durable, he plays either guard, and most importantly, he LOVES being part of the Green Bay Packers. As it currently stands, he's one of our 5 best and if we could draft some guys who are better, he'd at least be reliable depth.

I don't think it's critical to resign any of these guys.

I laughed, then kicked (swidt?) myself for not thinking of other options for the can. Then, I had to wonder; what would be the result if one dilly-dallied and dragged one's feet while kicking the can down the road?

In theory, at the end of the day, when all is said and done, isn't the bottom line that the can really needs to *want* to roll?

So, "in theory" is a trite cliche I should avoid?

For you, I can do.

Nah, I was just having fun with the can and the road. You're one of the posters who keep me coming back, LH.

I think they'll draft a running back, but I don't believe they need to. I think one of the guys that rolled out as a third back is going to step up. Preseason will tell. If they draft high, it may foretell the end of the GB road for Aaron Jones. Tough to spend that big money for a guy who suits up 6-8 games a year.

Dillion can go. No team in the play offs had a slow hard driving guy, they all have speed and agility -adios
DeGuara and Davis have already been replaced, -a found adieu
Runyan - I like him he is worth keeping if we can
Yosh and Newman can both go but I see Bak getting a medical buy out so were very thin a O line again Sayonara
Nixon and Savage are just too slow for the secondary but Nixon does play two positions so he stays
Who the heck wants Rudy Ford, Savage or Owens. no one they are out and scewed -das kaputski
Stokes has done absolutely nothing since we got him cut the sob and see that no one else wants him either U fired
Campbell is a malcontent who wants out so trade him for a pack of gum or something- dont let door hit u is ass
Toure has shown he is not GB material and the odd man out, dump him -hand man you need hands

Find a fast versatile running back like jones to complement him assuming he stays. If he leaves to then this is a rebuilding project that takes three years.

The goats on the roof crowd in Door County will miss Dillon. I won't miss all the hype about his massive thighs which did, what?
-
Agree about Degaura and Davis.
-
Agree about Runyan as well. If he comes cheap enough he's a known rotational piece who showed he wants to play. Might still want to keep Yosh around but let him test the waters if someone thinks he's worth it.
-
Newman. He's really still here?
-
Doesn't Savage still have another year left?
-
Agree on Ford and Owens. Correct that Nixon has value in ST and plugging into the secondary. At what price? Will Stokes ever be "healthy". I think all the injury hampered him in his development.
-
The cap relief from Rodgers is going into the rear-view mirror but there still is the complexity of Bahktiari looming large. Jones showed his worth to the offense but he needs to be more cap friendly if he stays. The window, if there is one, is going to be small because an expensive extension of Jordan Love is coming in the near future. Was the last the draft a view of things to come, or just good luck and fortune? Hopefully Gute and the scouts are getting things more right than wrong and have learned from the first few years of his draft. There still won't be big money to flash in free agency but maybe they will find affordable vets to bring in especially at safety where you have a body of work to evaluate and take a chance on.

Savage’s contract automatically voids. They restructured his contract to spread cap over another 4 years but the contract itself voids before the next league year starts. He’s an unrestricted free agent effectively now.
