Andy Herman reviews why the Packers' lack of playmakers has led to a disappointing season.

On paper, the Packers' roster coming into 2022 looked like it should have been a contending team, but in reality, the Packers sit at 4-7 and are in the midst of one of their most disappointing seasons in franchise history. One of the key reasons why - the Packers simply lack playmakers. Andy discusses why finding more playmakers has to be a key to the offseason in 2023. Enjoy!

After 5 seasons with Brian Gutekunst in Green Bay, the Packers lack playmakers you say?

Teams generally find playmakers in rounds 1-3. Jace Sterberger and Amari Rodgers were busts. AJ Dillon is a backup RB who lacks big play ability. Josiah Degaura is either an under-sized TE or an H-Back. Either way, he has no playmaking ability. Jordan Love never sets foot on the field.

Only rookie Christian Watson exhibits playmaking ability.

Gutekunst's "big" free agent playmaking additions have been TE Jimmy Graham and WRs Alan Lazard, Devin Funchess and Tavon Austin. Lazard is steady, a good blocker, and slow. The others contributed next to nothing. Of course, Gutekunst would never trade a pick for a playmaker, especially one of his beloved 3rd rounders.

Does any NFL GM have a worse record of adding playmaking talent to the offensive side of the ball over the past 5 seasons?

Good thing Gutekunst has gone so heavy on the defensive side of the ball and that unit is one of the best in the league.

Playmakers need the ball. We have an inaccurate QB who seems to decide who he's going to throw the ball to before it's snapped. We have rookies learning the WR position, and if we bring Lazard back, it's going to be Lazard-Watson-Doubs as the Big 3, and Toure will be on the 53 also, so I don't see any sense in spending a premium pick at WR.

We could spend a premium pick at TE. Assuming we retire Lewis, our starter is Deguara, so a premium pick should be able to get on the field a lot.

And if Jones is traded, I could see a premium pick at RB to help Dillon and Taylor. That would make sense.

Personally, I think we could use blockers and defenders every bit as much as we could use a new superduper WR. But I understand, another WR is always the answer.

We have 2-Weapons. A.Jones at RB and newly arrived Rookie Watson. It would be great to find a TE like Kelce or a Gronk....but that would be even harder than another WR. It seems Lazard is not as sure handed as he used to be. Maybe Doubs becomes the possession WR we need if he can hold onto the ball a little better. If we get the run game shut down A.Jones needs to get very involved into the pass game, then I think we would be okay. Gute had a chance to fix this for a couple years at least at the trade deadline...Those precious picks....We're never winning in the post season with the way he thinks. Look at it like this: However many draft fails Gute makes, he needs to either get more FA or use next years picks to cover previous draft fails.

Just fire GUTE, the guy has failed in all areas of the team. Poor drafting and lousy free agent acquisitions. Can't wait till this guy is long gone...
