What I EXPECT from this draft, in the round 1 and 2 picks.
S, 2x WRs, Edge
What I think would be cool for their 4 picks.
DL, OT, WR, Edge.
What would be my dream start to the draft.
OT Trevor Penning
DL Perrion Winfrey
WR George Pickens
WR Alec Pierce

Your dream is like mine, but mine includes everybody through the end of the 4th round, so it's a bigger dream with a longer list. We get SEVEN picks between #22 and #140, and IMO, we could/should use all of them.....and more....to strengthen the offense.
And that's why I'd pass on Winfrey. He's a real good player, for sure. But if we're "all-in" this year, doesn't that mean we're going to do everything possible to give Rodgers tools and time to use them? So my plan would be to crush teams with our offense, led by Rodgers, Jones, and Dillon behind some very good blocking.
We return every significant player from our very good defense last year. Again, to me, if we're all in, we get by with what we have on defense, or what we can add cheap. But we use those seven picks to add punch to the offense.

I understand about Winfrey (though I do like the explosive getoff along with those long, strong 35"+ arms).
For me, it was either him, or in round two a tweener guy, Logan Hall, a big edge and/or on D line guy, like Z.Smith, or Cameron Thomas, more of a pure edge guy.
Crushing teams with offense is somewhat unlikely, since Adams is no longer there and GB is probably rocking two new WRs (maybe even a third one late, but that will be a ST guy). Rookie WRs are never a certainty to start well, especially as Rodgers is choosy about who he throws to. With Adams and MVS gone, with Lazard very possibly not returning after his contract ends after 2022, and no indication that Amari Rodgers will blossom yet, that position group needs a new infusion, now.
The way I see it is of the (hopefully) starter-level WR's that I like, Watson, Pickens, Pierce, one will be there at 53. They are all very late round 1 (possibly Watson) or more likely, all round 2 targets. However, there might be a run on WRs between picks 28 and 53, so a WR at 53 (and for that matter at 59) is no certain thing.
Therefore, I don't think the Packers will want to wait between picks 28 and 53 and just hope a receiver they like falls to them, I believe they will get a receiver in round one, just in case round two leaves them without a receiver they want, when they pick. Now that (first round pick) could be Olave or London or Burks (don't see Williams Wilson, Dotson, fitting their draft profile). I think they get one of these just to have at least one viable starter-level WR on the roster. They might not love him (whoever he is) but they need him. It's a hedge against catastrophy (but there is an alternative strategy - see later in this post).
That leaves another round 1 pick, which is where other positions like DL, Edge, OT, S come in.
In round 2, with a little luck (doesn't need much) they get their second receiver, the one they really want (Pickens/Watson/Pierce). Then there is the other 2nd round pick. I'm not getting a TE this early (if I did it would be McBride, but there are other good TE prospects later). I doubt there is an OT worth getting at this point. Neil, Ekwonu, Cross, Penning, Raimann, are all probably gone by now and I don't like Faalele (who is too big), but Edge and DL should have prospects available without serious reaching.
Later (through rounds 3 and 4) I like any TE from Otton, Ruckert, Ferguson, Woods, Okonkwo (Otton is the best blocker).
If the Packers failed to land an OT earlier, then Waletzco, Rosenthal, Diesch and Tom are solid, athletic developmental alternatives in rounds 4-5.
Late picks should always be looked at as a ST prospect as much as their actual position group.
One thing I haven't fully addressed is a Packers strategy to counteract a run on WRs, between picks 28 and 53. They can use the round 3 pick and maybe one of the round 4 picks along with their pick 53, to move up to to where a second good WR can be grabbed before the run on WRs ends (and their round 3 picks are usually pretty weak anyway).
If they have pre-planned to do this and more important, have a tentative agreement to move up with another team, then they avoid that feeling of being forced to take a WR in round one. They can now get one, or two WRs, in the second round.
The TL:DR answer is that if you are looking for a top-of-your-tier-list player at each pick, some of them will be defensive players.

Heh !
Some nice picks in there, but it would be nice to fit WRs Connor Taylor or Velus Jones in a late pick.

Thanks for this. I had to look a couple of these guys up, but others are familiar.
1) AT WR, I like Williams, Watson, and Pierce. I think Gray is maybe overkill. Only three are going to make the roster. Cobb, Lazard, and Amari have the other three spots on the 53.
2) Cook, sadly, has a purple taint because of his brother. Resist the Purple Taint.
3) McBride is a solid choice to give us 40 snaps a game or so.
4) I've taken Lucas higher than that. He'd be great in the 5th round. Personally, I'd rather trade down the Kenyon Green pick and take two OL on the second day, because I think that when the starters get hurt, these guys will be playing.

My opinion is the 1st round is for taking the higher value LT not RT, although that gap is closing. Packers don't need a LT, I just crossed myself, they need a RT. So 2nd and 3rd would be the best bet to get a very good one and not wait until the 4th or later to find potential. I will continue to plug for Abe Lucas. Owen rated him 86th on his board (He didn't say where he had him rated among all Tackles, which is an important distinction). That's fine, but he won't be there at Packers #92. Take him at #59 and I think he starts, at least by mid season. If Nijim initially beats him, great, but I think Lucas will eventually start there and Nijmin continues to be a very good swing Tackle. People use the term "reach" to tell others that you could have got him here or there. That's a word for draftniks, draft graders, and pundits like Kiper to throw around who think their board is gospel. If a team really needs a position and it's close to your BPA, you take him. To me, it's better to take a guy early than hope, wait and likely lose him.
