I don't think it was a good idea to do the podcast without Corey. You guys have such great chemistry in that you keep it entertaining. However, I did like how you expanded the topics across the NFL.

joel - I agree that me w/Corey is a thousand times better. Unfortunately, logistics make it incredibly difficult to do a show every week all year round (People don't understand what an incredible amount of time and energy goes into each of those shows) This NFL podcast I can do in my living room in a few hours. Like I said on Twitter, I promise to get better. Don't give up on me! ;)

I definitely agree when you say there is an "edge" to Favre's celebrations now. I have noticed this as well.

WWHOOHOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Aaron Nagler, who partners with Corey Behnke on the CheeseheadTV blog, says he's still trying to deal with Favre in a purple uniform. "The Packers' fan in me can't handle it," he said. "And having Favre makes it a thousand times worse."

"I love Brett," he added. "I totally understand why he did what he did. But I don't want him to win. And for Brad Childress to be a Super Bowl winning coach? That makes me sick."

"I totally understand why he did what he did".

I don't, please explain?!?!

Fitz - Brett wanted out because he didn't agree with the way Thompson was building the team. He thought they should gear up for a run while they still had Brett. Thompson wanted to build for the future, and if the team happened to make a run before Favre was done, that was fine with him. In the end, also, their personalities really clashed. Favre wanted to go to a veteran team built to win now - when he figured out he could go to a team that ran the WCO and was a quarterback away in the Vikings, he made his move.

Think of this - he has gone from a quarterback that everyone thought was good but flawed but was worshiped by Packer fans but derided by a lot of NFL fans and observers to, basically, one of the best quarterbacks ever. Everyone said "He'll ruin his legacy" - he's done the exact opposite. He's built his legacy as one of the best to ever play the game.

And if the Packers got the remnant sand in their faces, they have only themselves to blame. There were games, it seemed, they took a little too casually, coaches and players. Cicncy was a warning with Ococinco's Lambeau Leap. Then the two Vikes games in which Capers changed practically nothing. Then Tampa and the Steelers. The AZ game topped it all off. The only player I read had any sense of the importance of these games was Woodson after the second Vike game who said he thought the fans really wanted that one. Now maybe they weren't ready, or had injuries. Guess TT's philosophy has taken a hit this year.

Glorious - you were fine until that last sentence, which was just absurd. Being ready to play had nothing to do with Thompson. That's on McCarthy one hundred percent.

Couldn't get intended corrections made above. What I mean is that the team didn't seem to be aware of how important it was for them to stand up to the whole BF thing and chase that shadow for their own benefit. At least it didn't register in any statements I've read.
That said, they showed promise, looked brilliant at times. This off season is critical in terms of personnel decisions and coaching philosophy. The schedule will only be tougher. Go Pack.

Aaron, yes, it's up to the coaches to maximize the talent. For example, I liked LeRoy Butler's idea of using Bush on pass rush (assuming they had someone else available to cover) since they seemed to prize his athleticism.
But I was referring to the win now vs the through the draft method of team building. Look at the Jets in two years and now the Vikes.
I don't discount TT's method, I rather like it, but it's a longer term proposition and I don't think there is the patience to wait for it.
BF was incredibly lucky not to have a serious injury at 40. But you've got to admire his guts. Maybe the rules really don't apply to him.

Glorious - "I don’t think there is the patience to wait for it" - the only person's patience who matters is Mark Murphy's. And he seems more than willing to take the long view. Also, there s the not-inconsiderable salaries due to Thompson and McCarthy. With a lockout on its way in 2011, there's no way the Packers dump them, hire a new GM and coach and pay four people to do two jobs, all while there's no product on the field. No, Thompson and his way are here for at least the next 3 years.

Aaron-

Good point on TT and the 2011 lockout, I haven't considered that point. Also, liked your review of Favre / TT above - was refreshingly balanced. And love him or hate him, he continues to demonstrate that he is a legendary QB ...
--
You nail it with "he has gone from a quarterback that everyone thought was good but flawed (but was worshiped by Packer fans but derided by a lot of NFL fans and observers) to, basically, one of the best quarterbacks ever. Everyone said “He’ll ruin his legacy” – he’s done the exact opposite. He’s built his legacy as one of the best to ever play the game." ...
---
AND the good news is, those accomplishments will forever be associated almost exclusively with the legendary Green Bay Packers!

This lockout scares me. I don't understand it very well though. Could the NFL really end soon?
