Expectations coming into the season:  Pretty low.  Guion was forced into a starting role in 2014 when BJ Raji went down with a season ending injury.  Guion provided very average play, and might have been in line for an extension worth more than the league minimum before he got into significant legal trouble.  Raji's return, along with Guion's off-the-field distractions tempered expectations going in to 2015.

Player’s highlights/low-lights: Guion certainly started the season on a down note, missing the first three games of the season due to a violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy.  Guion was arrested in Florida in posession of cash, marijuana and firearms.  Unlike 2014, when Guion flashed a little pass-rush ability, the Florida State product did not register a sack this past season.

Level of Expectations met:  Almost exactly met, definitely not exceeded.  Guion was almost exactly average yet again.  Pro Football Focus qualified 123 interior defenders for their grading system in 2015 and Guion ranked 66th.  Despite very marginal statistical production (13 tackles in 13 games played) Guion was fine.  2015 film study on Guion indicates that he was not quite as consistent as he was in 2014.  The highs were a little higher, and the lows were a little lower.

Grade: C

Player’s contributions to team success:  Guion's height allows him to be a versatile contributor to the team's defense.  He can play every position across the defensive line and was largely used as a run defense specialist, as Guion only gave the Packers 174 snaps on passing downs (you can compare that to 473 for Mike Daniels).  Football Outsiders indicates that the Packers run defense jumped from 24th in 2014 to 19th this season.  While it's not a monumental leap, it is an improvement.  Guion's contributions to that improvement should not be discounted.

Grade: C-

Player’s contributions in the playoffs:  Painfully average.  Guion did not have a significant impact in either game in the playoffs.  He did not record a sack, but the run defense was solid in both games.  Guion had two tackles against Washington and one tackle against Arizona.

Grade: C-

Intangibles/misc: This, of course, is the main problem.  Guion is an average NFL player, which is something that has value.  Guion should be a player that earns more than the league minimum, but I'm not convinced it's going to happen.  Guion is again a free agent, but his marginal play and legal troubles make him expendable.  Guion doesn't seem to be a problem around the team, but his drug arrest, in addition to domestic violence allegations are a real problem.

Grade: D

Overall Grade:  C-

I'm alright with Guion on the team in a backup role for minimum vet money. I do think that Raji will be re-signed, though, and that makes Guion the odd man out, given that Boyd comes back, maybe Ringo, and maybe a rookie or 2 will also be in the mix...
If he leaves no big loss, if he stays and brings average again, I think that is what can be expected.

I like Guion. He was great last year. Probably was too distracted this year. I'd bring him back if the price was right. I think he's a good locker room guy from what ARod has said in the past, which is worth it IMO.

Keep him ...this draft needs to be about playmaking LBS WRS and TEs.

To be fair, he also was moved out of the NT spot that he played well in, in 2014. This was due to Raji's return. He's good from a rotation standpoint, especially vs. the run.

I think they'll let him walk, but he also voiced appreciation for the Packers standing by him through his legal issues. That -- plus average play in 2015 -- might mean the Packers get him back for cheap.

Guion can play NT, but it is not his best position. He is okay as a rotational player best suited to run defense. I'd bet that he is back if GB can sign him for something close to vet minimum, and that if signed, he makes the team next year again, barring TT double dipping during the draft at DL or by FA.

For some reason I feel better about signing Guion over Raji. Raji is 29, Guion is 28. Raji has played 7 seasons, Guion has played 8 seasons. My concern about Raji is if he was given say a 3 or 4 year deal, do you get the 2013 version which was a contract year, or the 2015 version which was really his last chance of getting a future 3 or 4 year deal?

Then again Guion could get busted or test dirty at any time. Then what?

I think both guys are looking at 1-2 year deals.
