Glad Cox Jr made it. A little surprised at E. Wilson. Thought he was PS, but hopefully he will learn from the sidelines.

Zac Tom is just that good to warrant a double mention. 😉

I read that the LS Orzech will be brought back after Wednesday, when the Packers will move one of the players (Dontayvion Wicks?) to in-season IR.

The reported plan is to IR Tenuta (yes another tackle and former SFA) so he can return in season, and then resign Orzech, who as a vet does not pass through waivers but can sign anywhere he wishes.

The bigger question is why. Why take the steps to keep Tenuta. He’s a depth tackle behind Bakh, Tom, Walker at the very least and probably Nijman and Jones. Unless they are going to make him the tallest G, what does 6 Ts tell us?

It’s pretty clear they are looking at TE, they may look at be looking at G, and for a slot. They had better be looking at S. This safety group is one rookie, a benched first rounder and a couple of 3rd or 4th safety STers and Leavitt. It’s quite honestly probably worse than the M.D. Jennings year after Collins shock loss to retirement. I’d have got Moore through, not a 6th T. Now we’d better be finding some upgrades or it may get ugly.

I know where I’d attack this team and it’s not on the edge. Let’s hope the FO have got something up their sleeves

After Allen’s performance in the pre season. 2nd best offensive grade from PFF in the last game (essentially all blocking) and the 5th best run blocking TE in their view, over the preseason, I’d have thought they would just run with him. I’m mildly surprised that they didn’t. Probably the biggest surprise other than 4 corners and the determination to hang in to Tenuta. Let’s see who they find to improve on that as a blocker.

Did you really think GB was not going to have a weakness? With the salary cap issues they have, I'm surprised the roster looks this good. They couldn't draft talent for every position; well they got a day 3 safety that might grow into the role. But they sure as heck couldn't afford much more than the Moore/Owens kind of safeties.

Huber says Tenuta can play guard or tackle. That's worth taking the steps to keep.

Actually, Tenuta profiles well in terms of his style as a G, as I’ve noted before, but he’s struggled with bend as a T, let alone G. At a position where leverage is key, that’s almost always fatal. In addition, he’s going to be a huge figure right in the QBs line of vision, also not seen as a positive. He played no G this summer, a time where we’ve been unusually short of candidates.

We will see who goes on IR, waiver pick-ups, and eventually the practice squad tomorrow. I also think a trade is still in play along the lines of what TGR stated. I can't help but to think that starting with only 4 CBs and 2 true TEs is highly risky. Who is our back-up slot-CB behind Nixon?

Similarly, as of right now, you would have to think they are "protecting" Jonathan Ford again, as well as Emanuel Wilson, perhaps, Cox one or two OL, and more, when it comes to the game day inactive list. I KNOW this decision is still days off, but you do have to think about it, right? I would prefer to see two additional CBs on the game day roster when it comes time, and another TE. 11 Olinemen is way to many, so expect Tenuta on IR and/or a trade here, IMO.

I very much hope that they intend to play Jonathan Ford week one and any other game against a run heavy O. He may not be active every week, but he gives us the ability to be stouter against the run and fresher too.

Agreed. Ford isn’t 6-5 338 lbs. of window dressing. That guy is huge and can play NT. They didn’t roster him and develop his technique for an entire season for nothing.

What I like is both Ford and TJ Slaton were friends growing up in Florida. What I like more, given that, was how much work Slaton said he did on his hand usage. Betting Ford did the same. He’s a size/strength guy who is hard to move, with incredible snap timing to occupy his opponent, with violent hands. That’s his role at NT. Jerry Montgomery has to like what he’s seen.

Slaton’s a mountain too, but his calling card was his burst & explosion. Lining up both Slaton and Ford in goal line/4th and short, along with Clark? A lot to like. Nearly 1000 lbs of it!

The weight math adds up. Plus I remember that titans game where they wanted to shut down Derek Henry and ran with 4 big DL on the line..it worked out well. I’m all about the big body DL and less Tweeners that couldn’t stop a cold. Course this is about a decade overdue i. terms of keeping an adequate amount of DL relief on the roster. Should improve run defense greatly. That’s handy when facing running games like SF, Detroit and Tennessee. Force those marginal QBs to throw to win games.

4thand10, it really is long overdue.

For more than a decade we failed to give DL more than 1 good player, surrounded by a bunch of jags, but never enough for a rotation. Mike Daniels & Kenny Clark, surrounded by a wasteland of nothingness, for 10+ years. Things only began to change when we lucked into TJ Slaton in R5 of 2021.

6 DL should be a minimum from now on to spread out quality reps amongst the entire rotation to both improve overall play and save wear & tear for the playoffs.

I mean, look at how many times we entered the playoffs short handed at DL, only to be run over. No more.

He is a move TE. This summer he actually blocked well for one, having been barely willing to consider it previously, but he’d be another Musgrave not a blocker. I think they got a minimal something from the Eagles for him before he was cut. He would be a better offensive piece than Kraft at this point, but we still would have needed a blocker.

Why stockholder? we have no clue what the plan is for defense. As the roster looks now we can go 4-3, 3-4, 5-2 or extra safety umbrella. Lots of potential for versatility on the D in addition to run stopping ability and limiting TEs .How many teams in this so-called “ passing league with all these young QBs are going to be running 4 or 5 wide spread offenses?? Don’t answer that cause i can tell you…none zero zilch. The days of manning, Brady, Favre, Breese, Rivers and Rodgers are gone..well with the exception of AR. The college game has fully infiltrated the NFL…misdirection, double TE sets, potential wildcats is officially the mainstream NFL now. I seriously doubt we face a team that splits 4 wide or runs a spread offense. those days are gone. Now With saying that..they might stash a couple on PS. I’m guessing Ballentine would be one.

Surprised the Packers chose Wilson over Goodson and/or Taylor. Goodson probably because of his injury. Taylor hopefully gets to the PS tomorrow.

Very surprised about only 4 CBs. That is a risky proposition.

Happy to see the 6 DLs and 6 Edge.

There will be more moves over the next day or 2. I don't believe that this is the final 53 yet. It will be interesting to see who makes it to the PS and who starts the season on IR.

I'd love to see him show what he can do with the #1s against Chicago. Let him do some of the pounding.

Every now and then a guy comes along and just forces his way into the lineup. The RB unit has been pretty stacked but he managed to crawl up to #3, and he passed some good RBs in the last month. He might get waived after the first game and then resigned to the PS, or he might get 10 touches and turn them into 100 yards and a TD.

Who knows? I remember back when Green and Davenport and Fisher all averaged over 5.0 ypc and I'd love to see the load being spread among 3 backs, if they're all good players. I like what I saw from him when guys got blocked, and I think we're going to get guys blocked this season.
