Cory's Corner: It's Jordan Love Time
Aaron Rodgers' body is screaming to sit down and the No. 26 overall pick from the 2020 NFL Draft looks really good.
I don’t want to be negative anymore.
Throwing stones at the defense has been way too easy – and frankly, a little boring. The defensive personnel hasn’t been allowed to play to its athletic strengths by playing Charmin soft, no matter the opponent. Green Bay allowed 500 total yards as the Eagles beat the Packers 40-33.
But this wasn’t about the flimsy defense. What stood out to me was the guy that replaced Aaron Rodgers.
I’ve been saying for a while that Rodgers should’ve sat weeks ago as he recovered from Gamekeeper’s thumb on his throwing hand. Then, Rodgers had his ribs injured during the game and even said after the game that he had trouble breathing.
“I was worried about a punctured lung, as well, so I wanted to get that checked out,” said Rodgers, who was 11-for-16 with 140 yards, two touchdowns and a pair of picks.
Jordan Love entered the game with 11:11 left in the game and he instantly looked like he had been playing all season. He came cold off the bench and engineered a touchdown drive by going 3-for-3.
What really stood out to me was how quick Love got the ball out. He didn’t hang on to the ball to suffer an unnecessary hit. Was Love perfect? Not by any means. But he was very good. He was 6-for-9 for 113 yards and a touchdown. He also led a drive that ended with a field goal. I would argue that Love could start for the Patriots, Texans, Falcons, Panthers and Saints right now.
Now Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is in a really tough spot. Obviously, Rodgers doesn’t want to sit at all, but at what point is it worth it trotting out a veteran quarterback that has been beaten down this season?
“This is one of the toughest dudes that I’ve ever been around, so I don’t ever for one second question his toughness, his desire to be out there, his desire to compete,” said LaFleur.
All of that I agree with. You could see Rodgers clenching his teeth between snaps. It was like he was walking on shards of glass for most of the game.
I’ve said that Rodgers is the best passer I’ve ever seen. But when he’s reduced to playing through that kind of pain, does he really give you the best chance to win?
Then on the other side, you have the Packers No. 26 pick from the 2020 NFL Draft. He might be the biggest mystery in the entire league because he has only played two games where he has attempted more than 10 passes.
“Obviously I want to be on the field, but the situation is what the situation is,” said Love. “The toughest thing is trying to stay mentally prepared and stay locked in because you never know what might happen.”
Love proved on Sunday night that he is mentally prepared by looking confident against an Eagles passing defense that was No. 2 in the NFL in passing yards per game.
Love has been a pro’s pro the entire season as the Packers’ season tumbled out of control. He could have pouted about playing time but he never did. He could’ve been a problem in the locker room but he never was. In fact, many teammates have praised how good he has looked in practice.
The Packers are not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but Rodgers’ body is screaming “Uncle!”
The only question is, can LaFleur hear it?

Gute's 2022 draft is working out pretty well. Walker, Watson, Doubs and Enagbare have all started games and Wyatt and Tom have been rotational players. Toure has potential. Only Rhyan looks bad so far. That's pretty good drafting. Now if Gute could just figure out the third round.......

I always felt good about the drafts till this year when everyone here got on Amari, Stokes, Savage and I won't even start on some of the previous O-line picks. It's too early to decide on the 22 draft, but it looks good so far.

Stokes was badly misused in my opinion. Even without that, sophomore slumps aren’t uncommon. That’s partly why it takes 3 years to judge a draft reasonably. Savage has regressed under Barry, now pretty much everyone has. Maybe that just coincidence, but I’m not judging too hard till I see a D that looks a little closer to getting a more adequate sum of its parts from its roster.
Gute’s had some wins and some losses, all GMs do. I think he’s about average to date. This year could tip it well in our favor yet though. This roster was built to rebuild. We didn’t and that’s the problem. That and a head coach who has proved to be incapable.

I agree with you. Lets play ACR. All games to the bitter end. Maybe his worst record ever will push him to retirement. Up today his worst record was 6-10 in his first season as starter. He already has, I think, 9 INT in season, more than half was on him, not on his team mates, what also tells you a lot.
And regarding D status, I can tell you that some stars on that part of the team plays up and down during every game. I do not think this is completely on coaches. Large part is. Why? Because players who fights for contract, like Ford, Nixon, Reed are realy trying hard to make plays. Jaire is on and off. Same you can say about Kenny, Amos, etc.
I do not blame them, if the speculation about locker room is true. In turmoil they may think why to risk to much our health when we will be almost sure traded or released due to cap space or when we do not have the leader who cares about us, but spit on everyone publicly and HC keep his side, and side of Joe Barry...

Lmao ET. Ive been saying the same exact thing. People say putting Love in would be tanking but in reality this team has lost 7 of 8 games with Rodgers under center. Seems like keeping 12 in is the real way to tank. Hes broken, mentally and physically.

This is the time for business decisions both for the team and for yourselves. Now there is no way to catch the Texans, that ratbastard Lovie is still trying to stick it to us. You may be on to something! However, no matter who starts, we will probably win against the Rams, who are terrible and injured, and I would actually sit Rodgers and put him on IR so he is in better condition for a trade.
I was thinking we could get like first and fourth round picks for Rodgers from the Jets if we made sure they wouldn't absorb more than 18m of his cap hit. Rodgers would be better in New York when fully healthy and when he has a good o-line and great receiving corps. The Jets are good at essentially every position except for QB

regardless of the QB situation, every other team in the NFL would have fired Barry, but not the Packers, no owner nobody gets fired when they should, Mark Murphy needs to grow some balls and remove Barry now, national embarrassment Sunday night , record setting night for the Eagles but nobody held accountable.

I absolutely agree. I've been saying that for years. Everyone gets too much time even after it's clear their methods aren't working, and it never turns around. Thompson, McCarthy, Pettine, and now Barry. My fear is that Barry will still be there next season. If so, we can add Mark Murphy to that list.

Start Love for the Bears game. Then you have the bye. That should tell them if Rodgers is healthy and if they're still in the playoff hunt.
How could Rodgers be better than Love if he can't quite throw the ball at 100% or run if he needs to? You know he'll be shy and hesitate to take a hit with those ribs.
Seems a no brainer to me. Let the kid with some legs beat the Bears. We HAVE to beat the Bears!
If Rodgers demands to play and we lose, he should be barred from the ring of fame. At least, if Love loses to the Bears he can say "I told you so".

#12 is a competitor. Yes in a very small sample Love looked very good.
Yet until #12 is physically unable to perform(IR) or the Packers are eliminated from the Playoff Hunt, Rodgers remains QB#1.
I want to see Rodgers have the opportunity to connect with the new WR core of Watson & Dobbs in 2022

Thanks! It's been a couple decades since I've been accused of being under 45. Still don't think a guy should try to play hurt at the expense of a Packer victory over the Bears. If he's good to go I'm all for him.

That’s what so many said when Favre was traded. It is premised on the fallacy that Rodgers or any QB is forever irrespective of cap or roster.
Remembering the futile years should actually help to explain why we are where we are, since the leadership errors resonate. It’s no accident that a major step in getting to this point was Murphy undoing the structure that was a key foundation of our escaping those years.

Cold gets it....
Whether winners, or losers.....both outcomes come from the top down.
It's very astute of Cold to remember when Murphy changed the bylaws to where, he would have final say back in 2018.
Which was important to him because it looked like Murphy was asleep at the wheel with not dealing with Teds condition earlier.
If Murphy hasn't changed the bylaws back again...it means that Gute's GM position still has training wheels on.
Ron Wolf and Harlan made sure the GM called the shots, not the BOD's, or the President.
Wolf demanded control, Murphy took us back to the losing decades structure.
And now, it's starting to feel like it.
I'll leave it at that, but i could write a novel about all that transpired.

I thought Love looked GREAT in the few snaps he played in Philly. The pass to Jones was RIGHT on the money as was the pass shown above to Cobb. How that wasn't PI is beyond me. The thing that I was MOST excited about was some of those are passes Rodgers HATES to throw and have robbed the Packers at times this year and in the past.
Aaron Rodgers the QB, the QB of the Green Bay Packers is one of the best QBs I've ever had the opportunity so see. Because he's only won one SB his new title is the "The Best Thrower of the Football"...EVER. I think that's true, especially earlier in his career. Go back and watch the 21 yard TD pass to Jennings, or the 3rd down pass to Jennings late in the 4th quarter of SB45. His career is FULL of those pinpoint passes. There was one TD pass to Jordy against the Vikings or Bears where the announcer described the pass whistling past the defenders earhole...AWESOME moments...BUT
It's Jordan Love time, and he DESERVES his time and shot. The "Man" who has been the QB in GB for the last 15 years is beat up. Sore ribs, broken ribs, broken thumb, and a 3% chance which common folks is NO CHANCE at making the playoffs.
It's time to watch Jordan Love play in THIS offense. A offense designed for HIM, and NOT Aaron Rodgers. Lets see the ENTIRE Matt LaFleur playbook and not the one Rodgers only wants to run. I appreciate Aaron Rodgers the QB of the Green Bay Packers. The guy has been great. I've never questioned his toughness and while it's admirable he wants to play, starting Jordan Love for the remainder of the season while Rodgers HELPS while on IR is what's BEST for the Green Bay Packers today AND tomorrow.

Remember, Murphy has final say in all football operation decisions, that's the way he wanted it.

Because that's what Murphy/Gute wanted.
Recap....The Packers drafted Love, Rodgers wanted to be traded......SO....trade him and reap all those #1 picks you could have got in 2020....AND fix your salary cap problem in the process.

Because...they changed their mind and stuck with Rodgers.
Screwing Love in the process.
Now Love has to wait 4 seasons before he starts.

Up until this point Love hasn't shown anything that he is ready to take over as a starting QB in this league. While the sample size of the Eagles game was small, he did look very poised and looked very confident. He threw the ball with great velocity and accuracy. A few throws were a bit off, but he really had some great throws.
My favorite part was that Love was decisive and played on time and in rhythm with the offense.
I get Rodgers likely wants at least 1 more game against Chicago. But this would probably be the best spot to start Love. The Bears are not a great team, and they have the bye a week later. This would give Rodgers a couple of weeks to heal up and get feeling better. By then if he is ready to play, he can play.
I still think the Packers upper management and LaFleur needs to have a conversation with Rodgers. Not necessarily and ultimatum, but a we really need to know how you are feeling about next year. If Rodgers says he is done after the season, then they need to tell him, thanks for his service, but they are going to start to get Love more playing time sooner. If Rodgers says he is coming back, then he needs to get as many reps with the young WR's as possible. Building that rapport with the young players is a big deal!
I have no idea if Love is the future QB for the Packers. I don't know if Rodgers is playing after this year. Either way, they need to get Love more playing time. This week would be a perfect week to do so!

Same thing went for Amari Rodgers playing WR on the offense. Rarely got to play there, at WR, and got relegated to return duties, where he clearly was in over his head. As for Love, he is our future at QB. I think Sunday night's game was just a preview of things to come. I agree on sitting Rodgers for the Bears game. Our bye week is the following week and giving Rodgers over 2 weeks to heal up would be a good thing.

I'm more referring to last year and preseason this year. Off the top of my head I think he played the final drive in the season opener, and that was it for in season.
Last year he started against the Chiefs. He was 19 of 34 for 190 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, passing rating of 69.5
His next meaningful playing time came against the Lions. He was 10 of 17 for 134 yards 1 TD, 2 INTs, passing rating of 64.
(Rodgers in that same game was 14 of 18 for 138 yards, 2 TD's, 0 INTs, passing rating of 135.6. )
Those were his 2 most meaningful games before this game. In this game he was 6 of 9 for 113 yards, 1 TD, 0 INTs, passing rating of 146.8.
Love just looked different in this game compared to last year. And it while the numbers look good, it was the throws he was making that looked great. He looked like a guy that could lead a team. It was a small sample size, but it was a good one.
I agree about Rodgers. He was not a returner and some reason they kept putting him out there. I thought he looked good as a receiver though. But there are things we don't know either. Maybe he was running the wrong routes constantly. That stuff we don't know.

Tundra, im glad you mentioned Amari Rodgers. What a raw fricken deal he got here. Gets drafted into a situation with a clear path to playing time only to have the rug pulled out from underneath because the holdout qb just had to have his washed up buddy. And since Amari couldnt play like Davante Adams immediatley, 12 never even gave him a chance. Make no mistake about it, 12 screwed Amari from day 1. Not saying he wouldve been anything special but 12 made sure he never got any momentum with the offense. 12 is killing this team in every way possible and it needs to end while theres still something left to salvage.

Bad take. Hows he supposed to show anything from the bench? They cant keep him on the bench waiting for him to all of a sudden look like a hall of famer before committing to him. This is real life, not a video game. Sure we dont know what his ceiling is but the only were ever gonna know his ceiling is for him to play. To go out there and make mistakes and learn from them. To take the bumps and bruises and get better. Literally nobody looked at the 2007 version of Aaron Rodgers after that cowboys game and thought "generational talent" or "surefire hall of famer." He looked good, but moving on to him still required a leap of faith. Hell he didnt even look like a hall of famer in 2008 when he went 6-10 (his 4th year in the league). Do you honestly believe the Packers will ever seriously compete for another super bowl with 12? If you're being honest with yourself you know that answer is no. If he couldnt get us there in 2014 or 2020 then its never gonna happen. Continuing to play him is nothing more than complacency and fear of change at this point. Its time to play Love. It was time to play Love a long time ago. Somebody at 1265 needs to be the adult in the room and do what needs to be done.

I don't really get what your point is here. "How's he supposed to show anything from the bench?" He was not better then Rodgers so he wasn't going to start in front of him. Up until the Philly game he has not shown us or anyone that in a game setting that he is ready to take the next step. Last year he wasn't good enough. Had anyone in GB thought he was good enough they wouldn't have given Rodgers a new deal to come back. They would have traded him in the offseason.
Back when Rodgers was a rookie and 2nd year and 3rd year player reporters talked about how Rodgers would show something that was special. That he had the ability to be something special. It wasn't until the Cowboys game that we finally got to see it on the field. Then McCarthy talked about years later that if he had any balls he would have pulled Favre and put Rodgers in against the Giants in the playoffs. But he didn't. He knew at that point Rodgers was ready.
We haven't heard these types of things about Love to this point.
The closest we have heard anything like this about Love is a few weeks ago we saw the video of Campbell saying that Love is better then 1/2 the starting QB's in this league. And then he comes in and has this performance. We are finally seeing something in Love that gives us hopes that he could be our next starting QB.

Rodgers has been bad all year since even before the thumb injury. If Love had played that bad for that long, people would be burning Gutekunst's house down. But since its Rodgers he gets all the excuses. Saying hes better than Love at this point is a coin flip at best. These two players are like trains headed in opposite directions. Rodgers' arrow is pointing straight down and Love's arrow is pointing straight up. I know which train i want to be on.
Edit: As for Rodgers early in his career, I think youre suffering from a case of revisionist history. Rodgers was bad his first 2 years. Like really fricken bad. I suggest you google "Rodgers Made A Career Audible With Packers" which is an article back from 2012 that chronicled Rodgers' develop from snot nosed punk rookie to Super Bowl MVP. And when youre done with that, go to youtube and watch his rookie preseason highlights so you can see it for yourself.

Rodgers showed a spark in the Dallas game. Many here were shocked, being convinced that not only was Rodgers bad but fragile. There was widespread relief when Brohm was drafted in ‘08 too. Rodgers was promising in his first year starting in 08, but Favre was probably better. It was his second year ‘09 when he began to look like a star in the making.

Thanks for the replay. Yes a clear DPI. It was so in advance of the ball that if the defender was looking, it was an pretty easy INT too. But it still was a pretty good scramble and throw.
I think the gushing over Love's short play time here is premature. But he certainly showed enough to be given the opportunity. I think the team has given up anyway. And AR isn't AR anymore this year.

DPI, for certain. As for Love's love, some people, on these pages, were saying a short time ago, that Love is a bust. How can they say such things without giving him a chance to play and seeing what he can do? The team looked beaten at times, in the Eagles game. However, there was a lot of fight left in them. Look at Rudy Ford, Kingsley Enagbare, Jarred Reed and Keisean Nixon. This was a fun game to watch, even thought we lost.

At this point, im genuinely convinced Rodgers hoodwinked Murphy into a promotion of sorts where he now has equal authority as Gute and MLF. Its the only thing that makes sense. MLF and Gute wanted Love. They were both shown celebrating the moment he was drafted. And now hes finally showing signs of turning the corner but they still wont play him even though Rodgers is 1 hit away from an ICU? No sense at all unless its no longer their decision to make. Murphy really screwed everything up here. I hate lawyers.

The Packers FO has done a great job of painting itself into a corner. Rather than investing in weapons and filling the talent gaps, Gutekunst reached for a QB that wasn't needed and created this drama. Be that as it may, Love sitting and learning the pro game has not been a bad thing for his development. He will have the best chance to make it in this league because he has learned from the best and he has learned to control himself in difficult situations
The issue of course is handling your 18 year QB who has soldiered on through injury and poor team management/coaching. Do you bench Rodgers because your defense sucks, the O-line was a mess and Sammy Watkins didn't save the day in favour of a new toy? If the team mishandles this, we will all be back here next year bitching about how we got a 3rd round pick for our MVP quarterback and are paying him $50 million to play for some other team.

I am very tired of this kind of bullshit being posted. No offense to you specifically Razer, I have seen this so many times it feels like a political talking point on a false issue.
Rodgers had 2 consecutive crappy years at the time in QB's careers when they start to fade.
Rodgers poor play facilitated McCarthy's departure and it also facilitated BG's selection of Love. If I remember correctly, Lafleur was jumping around and fist pumping when the selection was made, so don't blame BG entirely for the GBP view that a new QB was needed at that time.
Out with the old and in with the new.

I try not to promote 'political bullshit' but then again there is a lot of bullshit in the world today. If you believe that Rodgers two MVP seasons are a result of drafting Love rather than overhauling the coaching staff then we have our own truths.
Moving on from Rodgers should have happened but it didn't. We missed the window that Rodgers created and instead burdened ourselves with a CAP crippling contract. Get the paint. Now we want to flush the guy who is playing for a coaching staff in disarray so that we can anoint the successor. This team is taking steps backwards - not because of Rodgers - but because of FO and coaching mismanagement. Go ahead and throw Love into the wet paint.

I do not see AR's renaissance as an either/or proposition. Both factors you mentioned played a part in his 2 late career MVP seasons.
The departure of Hackett and Getsy led to some questionable patching of the offensive coaching staff, and the retention of Barry seems to have been fueled by the defenses great showing vs SF in the playoffs ( but remember, they did an "El Foldo" when the team needed them the most in the 4th quarter of that game).
You are 100% correct that the window was there last off-season to move AR and get substantial recompense. That is absolutely a fire-able offense, and I lay the blame 100% at the feet of the team president Mark "howdy doody" Murphy for forcing that ridiculous contract on BG and the GBP.
The combination of murphys ego, and Aaron Rodgers ego just makes this franchise completely un-likable.
Coupled with MLF's lack of a forceful personality and Gutekunst's acquiescence to MM's power play there seems to be only EGOMANIACS or MUILQUETOASTS in the hierarchy of the GBP today.
It is difficult to have pride in the current organization, that is true.
I think every shareholder that can make it to Green Bay for the next Shareholder meeting should attend and greet the officers with the loudest chorus of booooo's ever heard in Lambeau Field and keep it up until they realize that they will not be able to hold their self=congratulatory little love-fest and they leave the stage still being driven from the platform by derisive catcalls from the shareholder crowd

The team mishandled this situation last winter when there was going to be a clear mismatch between an aging, superstar QB1 and a young team that was not ready to compete for a Super Bowl. They should have moved on from Rodgers then and jumpstarted the rebuild that was already in progress.
They now have little choice but to eat the ridiculous contract they gave to Rodgers and get what they can for him. Rodgers wants another Super Bowl and this roster can't deliver that for him. Trade him to a contender for a draft choice. Both Rodgers and the rebuilding Packers come out ahead.

At this point I’d take a conditional 7th. The payback is an earlier end to the cap hangover and the avoidance of a protracted death scene. When it’s done it’s done. You salvage what you can. No amount of wishing saves the decision to bring Rodgers back on that contract with this roster. All we can do is minimize the damage. The first steps, unfortunately, include starting the post Rodgers era and facing up to how this year came about.

I agree with all your points except for the bit about the roster not being able to deliver a super bowl for Rodgers. I see it the other way around. Even when he had stacked rosters in 2014 and 2020 HE couldnt deliver a super bowl. And hes not even close to the player he was back then. I sincerely believe this team would be in playoff contention had they played Love all year. At this point, Rodgers is holding this franchise back in just about every way imaginable.

Agreed. The FO gets an A grade on mismanagement. I just disagree on where. I hated the Love pick when it was made. Yet with hindsight I can see it. QB12 was no place near mvp caliber the two years pre Love. When he was finally challenged he perked up. His own draft day chip on the shoulder diminished until his successor was chosen. The mismanagement was extending QB12 with guaranteed money thus boxing in the team in salary cap hell. Not drafting WR higher in the WR drafts of the recent past was also mismanagement. QB12 is old, beat up and harming the team. He should sit, heal and then the decisions can be made. It’s about the G not the player.

Does This team still want to win? Rodgers owns the Bears. Love doesn't. This defense has a problem. It takes a good Nt for the 3-4-4. It takes 2 Dt for the 4-3-4. Something Gutey hasn't solved for years. If something hasn't worked since 2010. Why do we keep it?
And as easy as it sounds. You would think our DC could stop a running QB. And more!! I hope the light goes on, and somebody has a better idea. Because the Defense is better on the other side!
And thats my problem with Love. You want to try something even if it's wrong. And challenge the player that has been the the main reason for are winning. Year after year, they said we can fix it. Money was the answer. But they still missed.
Now the option is to change the Qb. With A QB that should have never been drafted. While management did the 1 year FIX!
Did they really want to fix the problem? IMO we're going to go over the cliff, with a switch. Because everything has been a failure.

Watson has 6 tds in the last 3 games lol. And the oline has played well for the last 6 games. Yeah the defense is a major problem but what does the defense have to do with Rodgers' play on the field? Hes been bad ALL YEAR. Since even before the thumb injury. Do you even watch the games or do you just sit in bed and stare at framed pictures of Rodgers all day? Speaking of barf bags, they would be more useful than the $50 million dollar cancer sucking the life out of this team. Notice how Love provided an immediate spark to the offense. Oline and receivers looked just fine to me when he played. Its like his teammates were glad 12 was finally off the field. Imagine that. In the last few weeks ive heard multiple teammates praise Love. Not a peep for Rodgers. The silence is deafening.

About that soft defense, this is from Packers dot com and has me really disappointed. MLF was asked about the defense and Barry and this is his response:

There’s no point in scapegoating, but denial is also potentially fatal. We saw that last year with Drayton. A competent coach supports until the obvious forces action. An incompetent one supports despite obviously having passed that point. It’s pretty clear which one LaFleur is at this point.

I've supported Rodgers as much as anyone and I still do. I enjoy watching him play. His 2 TD passes against the Eagles, one to Cobb and on to Jones, were magnificent throws. However this not about Rodgers this is about management and coaching.
Once again the Packers have an ideal situation for starting Jordan Love. The Packers are playing a weaker opponent on the road. Love looked confident in his short stint against the Eagles. Take advantage of that and stack it up with an opportunity for Love to earn a win in his first start this season. This is just a basic management decision that is good for the entire organization. Give Love a shot to win and give Rodgers 2 weeks to heal with the bye week following the Bears game.
Rodgers needs the rest and he needs the chance to heal regardless of how he feels about playing. No one wants to see Rodgers carried off the field because his body breaks down. It would be coaching/management stupidity/incompetence. Does this FO and coaching need to get everything wrong, Because this would certify their incompetence. It is not fair to either player or to the rest of the team.
Rodgers will want to play because players always want to play. But that is an emotional decision. Management and coaching need to be able to take the emotion out of their decision making. Let Love start, begin to see what the Packers have and then use the bye week to rest and reevaluate how Love plays against the Bears, Rodgers health and whether or not there is still any hope of a playoff shot. There is at least some logic in that stance that deserves to be acknowledged, however, I think it’s based in a fundamental misconception or two.
The first is the mathematical chance of the playoffs is really nearly infinitesimal. Since we won’t contend anyway with this team and coaching that is a minor point but sets up the second: we, the Packers, gain nothing by playing Rodgers or other players not likely to be here next year.
We get the only value in starting Love from here on out, but not in isolation: this should be along with as much youth as we can. That means Tom at LT, Toure, Deguara, Walker (T) and others. Rodgers wouldn’t play well with that. This is about evaluating and also giving players time to develop. That doesn’t start or end with QB.
It’s over. We gain nothing by playing the old and departing at all. Bench Lowry, Amos and the like and play youth. Hope to find one or two keepers and improve them. You do that with Love or even Etling late in games, not Rodgers.
Sentimentality has no place in our position. I don’t think Murphy or LaFleur (the same thing I suspect for this purpose) will do that. If they don’t, both should be run out of town because that’s just covering for the monumental mistakes Murphy has made at the further expense of the future he’s already rendered challenging.

Play Ford and Douglas as the Safeties to see if that would be workable for next season. Let Wyatt and Slayton take Lowry’s and Reed’s snaps. Play Tom at LT and rest Bak.
The Old Guard has been great but they are hurt and slow. The Packers have been here before in the late 60s when the Lombardi dynasty ended. Starr, Nitschke, Gregg, Wood and others continued to play for too long after their productive seasons were over under Coach Bengston. It didn’t work then and it won’t work now.
Chuck Lowry, Watkins and Savage. Let Amos walk. Retire Bak, Cobb and Crosby. Move with the rebuild or the tweaking whatever the Packers want to call it.
Management which does not initiate is always reacting and usually incorrectly while management which initiates forces competitors to react and gives themselves a better chance for success. It was Jordan Love time when Aaron Rodgers held out on the Packers in 2021 -- putting the future of the team in Jeopardy as he held us hostage for no reason except his own self-absorption -- and only came back when management groveled before him.
It was even more so Jordan Love time when Rodgers held us hostage again in 2022, and especially before giving him a massive contract that somehow pays him even if he retires. By the way, why in the world do you pay a guy for retiring?
The question today is whether Rodgers will continue to bully the Packers, and whether the management of the Packers will continue to allow themselves to be bullied.

It seems that as with Brett Favre beforehand, the Packers under Rodgers have decreased as the ego of our quarterback has increased. Both of these team-wreckers may have continued to amass gaudy statistics and abundant accolades, but they destroyed the dynamic of the team necessary for championships.
The lesson in both cases is that once a QB becomes a prima donna -- making himself bigger than the coach and GM -- then is the time to get a new QB.
Otherwise, the result will inevitably be the most exasperating and agonizing heartbreaks for us.
If we don't learn the lesson, then we'll continue to stare in stunned perplexity as the Packers tease us with talent, only to fold miserably in the biggest games due to a lack of character.

Amen Swisch. What so many fans dont consider is the human element to all of this. They see the talent but they ignore the behavior and how it can negatively affect the chemistry of this team. They are humans and it takes a team of 53 guys all on the same page with a unified message and goal to win in this league. And it only takes 1 guy doing his own thing to ruin it. And when that 1 guy is the highest paid player in the league who touches the ball every play, the chances of keeping it all together for a serious super bowl run are almost 0. Been saying this for years now but most are still too mesmerized by the occasional dime pass (getting fewer and further between) to see the writing on the wall. Rodgers is basically the Terrell Owens of quarterbacks at this point. Hes become a one man circus that just wont leave town. Im tired of this circus. I want my team back.

Thanks for the nice compliment, RTS -- which is truly appreciated because at age 60, I've been for the most part an unpublished and impoverished writer for most of my adult life (in other words, relying on other sources of sustenance).
I do have a journalism degree from Northwestern University way back in 1984, which I attended on a golf caddy scholarship (thanks to the late Chick Evans, winner in 1916 of both the U.S. Open and the U.S. Amateur).
After college, I worked for a couple of years as a newspaper reporter in the suburbs of Chicago, Lisle and Naperville -- and there's not much more to it as far as acknowledged writing.
I'm still consider myself a writer, though, and who knows?

I believe, too many fans, think players are incapable of not playing hard. I believe they're like any working person when things go wrong on the job. You just don't put the total effort into it, even if you think you are.

Coaching is a thing, it has a real effect, as is frustration. Good coaches do get more out of their players individually and collectively. Athletes have morale issues just like others. There are some who may see a dead season and expiring contract as a reason to dial it down. That’s their livelihood next year. There are others who just aren’t comfortable with what they are being asked to do potentially.
Is this an excuse? No. But it’s reality. This season is done and vets know it. If they don’t buy into, or worse don’t like, their coach then some established players will dial it back or freelance. Others will just be more cautious of niggles. It all adds up. You see this quite well illustrated once in a while when an opposing team makes the mistake of firing up a lesser one on the field and suddenly they wake up.
One tactic is to play youth more because they are fighting for their careers or for playing time to get established. That can actually infuse life into others if the right personalities combine. Look for the non stop types on your roster and see if they motivate by example or desire. Take guys like Alexander and challenge him every play, he will fester if not and inspire if he’s happy. Vocal types can cut both ways, so manage it. As to youth, Im thinking about the Heflins if this world. Great coaches can use that. Sadly, I don’t think ours will see it.
Keep your Jones’s and Cobb’s because they are that type, add others who might be the same. They may not be better but the results may be. Sadly, that realization early on O might have led to a better season. A team is a group and groups have dynamics. I think the Giants are an illustration of a coach that understands that and how to harness it.

No need to force anything. If Rodgers is healthy enough to play, he will. If he isn't, he won't. Why create another unforced controversy? AR made it clear in his presser that as long as they are mathematically alive and he could play he would.
What would it say about a QB that didn't have that mindset?
Even if AR knew he wasn't going to be able to play, he surely isn't going to give anyone the impression that he's not going to try. Sitting him if he wants to play, and can play, would be divisive and unnecessary. He has earned the right to play this out on his terms. There is nothing to gain at this moment that can't be allowed to play out naturally.
Packers win, they're still alive mathematically (yeah I know), rinse and repeat. If the Packers lose they still have ample time to give Love a look. Just my humble opinion.

1) Playing time should be a complete MERITOCRACY.
2) if a player is injured enough to affect his performance IN THE OPINION OF THE COACHING STAFF then he should be benched, no matter what the player says or wants.
Your assertion of Rodgers having "rights" is exactly what inflated his head and is at the heart of a great deal of the dysfunction on the team including the usurpation of the Head football coach's authority.

With all due respect, I disagree with your assertion that saying a 4 time MVP player who is "healthy enough to play" and has earned the right to play is in some way cancerous thinking.
I would say it would be far more detrimental to a team to sit that player. If the team knows AR can play and the coaching staff sits him anyway, what they are saying is he is not our QB. Why in heavens name would they do that at this point. That's what I would call "dysfunctional"
Once they are mathematically eliminated Love will get his opportunities if Rodgers is indeed too hurt to play effectively, but there is no way that this team is turning the reins over to Love unless they want Rodgers gone. I don't think they see AR the same way you do my friend ;)

It was the same with Favre. Some see only through the lens if the past. Some just will jump through hoops to avoid accepting that it’s over: change is inevitable. Some really are primarily just fans if the player too: they aren’t invested beyond him.
Rodgers isn’t healthy. We are effectively out if it, the mathematical chance depends on a string of other team’s results even if we win out. We have nothing whatsoever to gain by starting Rodgers. Nothing. We have nothing to lose by starting Love worth considering.
It’s that simple this week. I agree you don’t start telling the Bears, but if Love doesn’t start or perhaps worse, comes out with a Rodgers game plan, then LaFleur deserves total derision and so does his boss.

Trade Rodgers to the New York Jets in the offseason and commit to Love! What has Love not done to warrant being a starter in this league? The only way we'll find out if he's ready is if we give him some playing time.
As for Rodgers, the Jets are a team with a loaded roster but a terrible QB who is holding them back. Rodgers' play would likely elevate when he is healthier, with a better O-line and better weapons. and having Rodgers would put the Jets firmly in the mix for a Super Bowl. This would also get us great draft capital, hopefully a first-round pick

Keep playing Rodgers this year to save wear and tear on our new starter while he still gets to learn? Empty the tank before you trade it in.

PC, I think you misunderstood his point lol. He's saying keep riding Rodgers into the ground for the remainder of this season and keep Love fresh for next year haha.

Not even a full game but Love looked so great he is our new HOF QB, lol. Matt Flynn had one of the greatest games ever, for a Packer QB, how did that turn out? You armchair GM/HC types just cool your jets and let the big boys make the decisions

I've been thinking of Flynn too, but if we can't voice opinions what's the point of CHTV? There were other quarterbacks here that went on to have very successful careers on other teams.

If you read my posts, you will see that I want Love to play more BECAUSE I think that 9 snaps is too early to judge, we still need to see what Love's got. Judging from those 9 snaps, though, he looked great

What relevance or parallel do you draw from Flynn? The guy came in as a back up, was never taking over, and played his way into a big starting contract in the back of an aggressive game plan designed for him, a good team around him and rising to the occasion. Not bad from a 7th rounder. Unfortunately, at some point his arm went and he couldn’t build in that and lost out to a young draft pick.
Rodgers was young, injured and never going to not return. In what way does that speak to now? Maybe the lesson is youth over skills in decline?

Flynn played well in his time in Green Bay.
Flynn parlayed his success here, to the tune of 12.5 million with Seattle and the Raiders and barely played.

Jordan Love time has been long overdue. However, Rodgers has been authoring his own graphic novel - with the final chapter - " The Wounded Warrior" - who choreographs his own exit. I do not expect the best interests of the team to supplant Rodgers self-interests.

Ha ha, all you amateur GM's and coaches are going to be all riled up when Rodgers plays Sunday, and it looks like he will...going to have to pump the brakes on the Love fest for awhile I guess...there is starting to be more conspiracy theories on Cheesehead TV than on Truth Social...I think some of you actually think MLF, Gutes and MM can't wait to read what people on Cheesehead TV have to say each day...THUMBS DOWN AHOY!!!

After almost 4 years in, just what is the identity of the Packers under MLF? I am asking because I do not see one.
Lafluer hasn't grown much as a leader. Compare MLF in his 2019 presser being introduced new coach to today. I see the very same guy. At least back in '19 his vision was a balanced offense and a stout, physical defense, and field flipping STs. All that is a "fart in the wind" now.
In fact, I would say his leadership performance has eroded every year. He is so "hands off" with the other two units, D and STs and never holds those DCs accountable. Maybe they intimidate him the way way Rodgers does. He seems to try hard to avoid conflict and the difficult decisions. What is the most difficult, consequential decision he has made in nearly 4 years?
Then, under Murphy, what has been the identity of the franchise? I would say an organization filled with hubris. And hubris often precedes the fall.

One could make the argument that Love has a better rapport with the receivers than Arod. Through mini camp and practices, he has been the guy throwing to them on a daily basis. He appears to have reached the point where he is just playing now instead of thinking.
If they are to pick up his option (around 19 mil) they have to KNOW he is the guy. If they don't, he walks away after next year. With a possible top 10 pick in a qb heavy draft, they really need to figure this out.
What I take from his performance against the eagles is good decision making and a live arm against a defense that was playing soft. Can he do it when the opposing DC has a week to game plan for him? Possibly. That is what they really need to find out. These last few games could answer everything including if the young wideouts rally around him.
Love, Doubs, and Watson could be the 3 headed monster we've been waiting for. Only one way to find out.
