CHTV Weekly Pick Em Update: Week Eight

CHTV Weekly Pick Em Update: Week Eight

We have reached the halfway point of the regular season, so it seems to be an appropriate time to update the results of the CHTV Weekly Pick Em contest.  Note that the contest includes the playoffs as well.

MikeD is in first place with 86 correct picks.  Mike used a perfect week eight (15 of 15 correct) to put some distance between himself and Shooter McGavin, who is in second place with 83 correct picks.  MattFlynn10 and Butros are tied for third with 82 correct picks.  MattFlynn used a perfect week eight to climb into third.  Big Mel 75 and Jerry 4049 are tied for fifth place with 81 correct picks.  I am tied with Brinkofdisaster, and Jkmpb for seventh place with 80 correct picks.

Dobber, grimman, and Latvian Cilveks are tied for tenth with 79 correct picks.  Modest controversy reigns in my household after my son, Latvian Cilveks, tried to submit his picks just a minute or two prior to the start of the Thursday Night game but ESPN would not accept his pick for that game.  Yes, I know he picked Kansas City.  Yes, the game had not yet started.  Yes, the Chiefs won.  No, it does not count and he is in tenth place, not tied with me for seventh place.

As I previously noted, I will not drop the lowest score (if one has a bad week, so be it), but if life gets in the way and a participant completely forgets to submit picks for a week or two (that is, a score of zero), I will manually adjust the score on a percentage basis.  I think two weeks of forgetfulness is my maximum: while I like math just fine, I did not and do not want to major in it.

As adjusted, Jonathan Spader moves into a tie for tenth place with the equivalent of 79 correct picks.  Since '61 as adjusted moves into 18th (77) and Kevin McCarthy moves into a tie for 26th (74), not including any week 9 games.  JeremyCHTVlive used a perfect score in week eight to jump into a tie for thirteenth place along with Croatpackfan, Cheesehead619, Cheesetradamus, and Gopack1265.  Nice Potatoes also had a perfect week eight score, one of four perfect scores after the first seven weeks produced none.

I think I have learned my lesson and I expect that I will start picking the Packers to win with more regularity.  Overfamiliarity sometimes does engender despite.

There are a lot of weeks left in the NFL season so there is plenty of time for participants to move up or down in the rankings.

You overlooked Bearmeat's completely mediocre and boring picks! Not even a mention? #CaughtMeInTheFeels ;)

I was going to limit it to the top 10, but I wanted to mention Jeremy's perfect score, so I identified him and the other persons tied for 13th place. There is plenty of time still, but perhaps next time I will list everyone.

I was messing with you. This has been fun though.

TGR - Maybe next year we can do a CBS confidence pool? They're even better. You rank the games based on how sure you are that a certain team will win. 16 points for your top ranking down to 1 etc... it really separates the crowd much better!

LOL. My first replay was this: "It is a meritocracy."

But I try not to make enemies for life, so I erased it and wrote something bland. [Not familiar with the CBS confidence pool. I will take a look.]

I have an atrocious record and should be shot on site if I start discussing pro football picks!
