2021 Packers Stock Report: Week 8

Take a look at the stock report for the Green Bay Packers after a 24-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8.

It’s been nearly a week since we last saw the Green Bay Packers play a football game.

And a lot has happened.

Since that Thursday night win over the last unbeaten team in the NFL, we found out Kylin Hill and Robert Tonyan would miss the season, the team cut Jaylon Smith and Aaron Rodgers tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday morning.

There’s a lot to dive into. So let’s take a look at the stock report for the Green Bay Packers after a 24-21 road win over the Arizona Cardinals.

BUY

Jordan Love- With the news of Aaron Rodgers testing positive for COVID-19, Jordan Love will start on Sunday against the Chiefs. The first round draft pick from 2020 (and the apparent heir to the organization’s quarterback throne), this is Love’s moment to prove to everyone why the Packers drafted him. From all the extra reps he took in OTAs and training camp, Love should be prepared to play. It also helps that he gets the team’s top three receivers back. I’m willing to bet on him playing well this weekend.

Josiah Deguara- The Packers will no longer have Robert Tonyan this season due to an ACL injury. Between Josiah Deguara, Dominique Dafney and Marcedes Lewis, which player do you think will get the bulk of the tight end targets? That’s why I’m including him on the ‘buy’ list. Deguara is a talented player who has been used as a gadget guy, both in the pass and run game. I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Packers use him in Tonyan’s pass-catching tight end role. His stock will only rise with more playing time and catches.

Returning starters- I was going to use the term ‘Getting healthy’ for the ‘buy’ list, but won’t now (Thanks a lot Aaron). Instead, buy the stock of the guys who will be back for the game at Arrowhead. The Packers will get Davante Adams, Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling back, which will be a significant boost for this team. All-pro left tackle David Bakhtiari could return as well. The defense also has a couple players (Za’Darius Smith and Jaire Alexander) that could get a chance to play in the coming weeks. I’m getting excited thinking about it.

SELL

Juwann Winfree- A practice squad wide receiver, Juwann Winfree played OK for the Packers on Thursday night. He did end up catching four balls, but he also had a drop and a fumble. His PFF grade was one of the worst on the team. With the return of the starters, expect Winfree to be relegated back to the practice squad. If you bought his stock before the game on Thursday, hopefully you dumped it right after the contest – before it dipped again.

Amari Rodgers- Similar to Winfree, Amari Rodgers also had a drop and a fumble in Thursday’s win. A guy who is clearly still developing, the coaching staff was forced to play Rodgers much more against Arizona. Also similar to Winfree, I’m including him on the ‘sell’ list for this week due to the return of the starters at the position. Rodgers is getting better as a punt returner, but will see much-less time on the offensive side of the football now. Sell.

HOLD

Aaron Rodgers- I have a lot to say about Aaron Rodgers. I loved him after the win, John Wick costume and the bitcoin giveaway. I am now shocked about the COVID-19 news. Rodgers said he was ‘immunized’ when asked about if he was vaccinated earlier in the season. With the news of his positive COVID-19 test, the news of his un-vaccinated status also became public. So, the quarterback cleverly used the word ‘immunized’ and hasn’t necessarily been following the proper protocols all season? Whatever is actually the case, it’s disappointing as a fan. However, don’t sell his stock. Hold on to it. He will return at some point this season and will be back to leading this team toward a playoff spot and another NFC North division title.

Krys Barnes- Krys Barnes played one of his worst games on Thursday night. He had the worst PFF grade of any defender by a long-shot (29.5). However, with the release of Jaylon Smith, it’s still apparent that the Packers believe that he will be the ‘Robin’ to De’Vondre Campbell’s ‘Batman.’ I think he will play much better in the future, so hold on to his stock.

Wow, AR12 not really "immunized" Maybe now the talk of him being the smartest person in the room can go away for good. Just another self absorbed prima donna, albeit a very talented one. GPG!

Extremely talented QB. Extremely miserable human being. He increasingly is a hard guy to root for.

Starting to feel the same way, ICh. Love the way he plays the game (except when I don’t). Starting to really not love the way he lives his life.

Buy: Agree with Love; besides, do we really have much choice?

Instead of resenting the oddball away game in an uneven schedule, I'm now totally looking forward to it. Love has had plenty of time in the incubation chamber, so let's see what we've got. The Cowboys and Jets won games using backup QBs with minimal game experience, so I'm at least expecting a reasonably competent showing from Love. Also note that the Chiefs defense is poor across the board.

Buy: The ground game. MLF should be trying to use the same formula that he did against the Cardinals if he can get away with it.

Hold: The O-line. Need a strong showing if we expect to win.

Hold: Deguara and Dafney. One of them is going to need to step up, that's for sure. It's an especially good opportunity for Deguara to showcase the pass-catching abilities he displayed in college.

Hold: Defense. Obviously a real tough challenge vs. an Andy Reid team. Need pressure from the defensive front, sure tackling, and good coverage on the TE; I'm crossing my fingers on the last two.

Agree, but would like to add: Bakhtiari could be back for KC, in which case I'm ready to "buy" the O-Line.

SELL, SELL, SELL: Aaron Rodgers. Now we know that he can not be trusted and that all that sh*t about Packers organization was just that - Sh*t! He is liar, who can be also suspended by the NFL for lying about his Covid status. If Packers knew that, I believe Packers would also be punished. That is what you got from overconfident intelligent, arrogant, but not so clever person!

Why he did not get vaccinated? I would like to hear his explanation... That must be another huge sh*t from his mouth.

Get all your facts right first.

Rodgers never said he was vaccinated. He said he was immunized. What did that mean? It means he had treatment to increase his anti-body count. He also requested for exemption based on his increased antibody count, however that was rejected by the NFL.

Maybe he was right, that he was immunized similar to that provided by the vaccine. However, that is immaterial since it was not approved.

Thus he was following protocols like daily testing, mask-wearing and high-risk close contact protocol, etc. However, one protocol he seems to have violated is wearing a mask indoors. There is proof (press conferences) of indoor non-wearing of masks. Maybe masks need not be worn if other persons are far away. If not, for that he should be penalized, and Packers as an organization should also be penalized.

never understand why he some thought he was the smartest guy in the room. he was a good QB but never said somthing pretty smart. You cant even make the case that he was not much smarter than BF.
But he is a selish, weak diva since 2014, who always points fingers and never took any blame.

great QB but not an even better person...thats for sure

“ Davante Adams, Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling back”. I did not see that report. But it’s probably true that they will be back. Still, it would be nice to know for sure. We will need them.

I saw reports that Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling are back. But not Davante Adams.
