Lions Safety Ko Simpson Signs RFA Tender

Detroit Lions restricted free agent safety Ko Simpson has signed his one-year tender.

Simpson, a fourth-round draft pick (105th overall) out of South Carolina in the 2006 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills, was tendered at the "Original Round" level, and barring a contract extension, will earn $1.176 million dollars in 2010.

Last September, the Lions shipped a seventh-round pick (209th overall) in the 2010 NFL Draft to the Bills for Simpson. In his first season with the Lions, Simpson posted 30 tackles and an interceptions in eight games, including five starts, before a knee injury injury landed him on injured reserve.

In 41 career games, Simpson (6-1, 202) has 173 tackles, 1 quarterback sack, 3 interceptions, and 8 passes defensed.

With Simpson signing his tender, guard Dylan Gandy and safety Daniel Bullocks are the only Lions' restricted free agents who have yet to sign their one-year tenders.

Simpson's signing, along with the Lions officially signing veteran cornerback Dante Wesley on Tuesday, brings the number of defensive backs the Lions have under contract to 16, the most any NFL team currently has signed to its off-season roster. Bullocks would be the 17th defensive back, once he signs his RFA tender.

The Lions' pass defense ranked 32nd in the NFL last season.
