Super Bowl LII | Are Eagles in Position to Dethrone Patriots?

Well … it's decided. And much to a die-hard Packers fan's dismay, Super Bowl LII will be a showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots … And Terrible Tom gets another opportunity to add a ring to his collection. His right hand is covered pun intended); he can start on a ring for the left and then hopefully retire. With any luck, Aaron Rodgers will remain healthy next season and the next round of beautifully molded Super Bowl rings will be in Green Bay.

The Jacksonville Jaguars came much farther than thought possible with 'Blame it on Blake' Bortles captaining the ship. In fact, the Jaguars vs. Patriots and Vikings vs. Eagles pulled the old flipperoo on expected blowouts last weekend. Many thought that it would be that Patriots roasting the Jaguars like a pig on a spit while at home in Foxboro , even with the news of Brady having a bum hand. But the story turned out differently. It was the two-headed beast, Nick Foles who led his team to a complete rout of the opposition. Nick Foles showed up big and against one of the best defenses in the league. You might not be aware, he had the best game of any Eagles QB this season; 3 touchdowns, 352 yards and with perfect second-half passer and QB ratings. But will this Nick show up in Minneapolis against Tom, Bill, and the New England Patriots?

The drama builds! One of the Patriots go-to guys, Gronk took a hard head-shot against the Jaguars and has reportedly been thrust into the NFL's concussion protocol. No Gronk creating extra mismatches would be great news for the Philly defense. There is no specific timetable for head injuries. However, Vernon Williams, a consulting physician for the LA Rams went on record saying that 85% of sports-related concussions resolve themselves between 10 days and two weeks. And that the return of a player in the NFL is left up to the professional judgment of the Head Team Physician or the concussion evaluation and treatment specialist physician. The timeline will be tight … but I am guessing that it's the Super Bowl and Gronkowski will get cleared to play.

10 stitches in Tom's hand … but he still managed to drop 290 Yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Pats dramatic, come-from-behind win over the Jaguars in the AFC Championship game. So, though we can't assume that he'll be 100%. We can assume that Tom will be Tom and find ways to make it really difficult for the other team. Will the question marks surrounding the Patriots offense add up to enough for the Eagles to take the throne from the Pats? Brady has the Philly defense gunning for him, Tim McManus quoted Lane Johnson in saying, "Pretty boy Tom Brady, Greatest QB of all time. I'd like nothing more than to dethrone that guy."

The Eagles are well aware of their underdog role. They have managed to win back-to-back as home underdogs and now will head into U.S. Bank Stadium as dogs yet again! And if Foles shows up with the 'good head' on, the Eagles could turn into a Griffin-like monster that plays the role of the usurping upsetter.

The lines opened with the New England Patriots as 6-point favorites. Then by mid-Monday afternoon, the line had moved down to 5.5 points. By Monday evening, the point-spread has moved a whole point and now the Eagles are only 5-point dogs. So, a few people seem to think the Eagles have a chance. But there is much more action to be had than just the spread or the outright winner. There will be around 400 Super Bowl Props odds that you can spice up your Super Bowl 52 party. You can check SBR for all the latest NFL prop bets as they are released.  In fact, for the diehard cheesehead, the odds for the 2019 favorites to hoist the famous Lombardi Trophy have already been released and the Packers are listed at 10/1. Those odds will change throughout the preseason so you might want to take advantage of the early lines. With a healthy Aaron Rodgers, the Packers will definitely be in contention. We just have to hope he is focused and that his new girlfriend (NASCAR's Danika Patrick) won't affect his play on the field. (ducks...)

Don't know how many are old enough to get this, but the fairly recent "Ed Wood" movie with Martin Landau as Bela Lugosi and Johnny Depp the (in)famous director might have helped some of the youngsters get the name thing, LOL. :)
Edit got my characters on the film mixed up, fixed it.
