I am curious as to why Mr Nagler is reversing course on Aaron Rodgers. All last year he was certain that 2021 was AR12's last season especially given the gentleman's agreement that was supposedly reached between Rodgers and Gutekunst regarding his ability to leave the Packers and sign with another team that the Packers would accommodate via a trade (which would allow the team to collect a minimum of two 1st round picks plus a player or two).

Even though Rodgers has spoken far more favorably about his relationship with Gutekunst of late this will have no bearing on what will surely be his demand for a new contract that would pay him $45 million per year over four years with at least $80 million in guaranteed money. The Packers would almost certainly not be willing to sign such a contract with him since that would mean abandoning the Love project to which Gutekunst committed the team by drafting him and NOT an elite WR prospect which I still regard as the decision which has cost the Packers at least one SB appearance. (Look at how the absence of MVS affected Rodgers in the loss to the Niners.)

Rodgers is gone! He will be traded as part of the Gutekunst strategy of moving on with Love. I'm not sure it is wise to offer false hope to Packers fans and CHTV followers by dangling the promise of another year with AR12 leading the offense. And all this talk of retirement which Maggie Loney even suggested as a reasonable option is also utter nonsense. Why would Aaron Rodgers turn down an extra $180 million in future salary especially given the enormous chip on his shoulder which will drive him to setting more passing records so he will at least be the second best QB of all time in every statistical category.

This is the Jordan Love era. We should all wish Aaron Rodgers success in his future endeavors.

Anyone finding "hope" in anything I say, regarding Rodgers or any other aspect of the Packers, needs to take a serious breath.

Don't be too modest. I have the highest respect for your ability to assess the state of play at Green Bay. I also understand the need to stir hope from time to time after a terribly deflating playoff loss that shocked us all. But I trust in the arguments you previously advanced with respect to the plan that Gutekunst put in place with the drafting of Love. I agree with Nagler 1.0 and disagree with Nagler 2.0. I also salute the analysis given by occasional CHTV commentator Andy Herman in today's podcast which demolished the notion of a possible Rodgers retirement and tended to fall in line with a pending Packers' trade. We all believe it would be in the best interests of the Packers to trade Rodgers for as much as he will bring on the open market in the month ahead. But I am not a capologist so I have difficult making a proper analysis without knowing the effects of guaranteeing $80 million to AR12 as a signing bonus and pushing out subsequent payments two or three years down the line.

I would appreciate if you and Andy could break down the elements of a new contract with Rodgers that would run three years (instead of the four he would more likely ask for from a new team) at a total of $150 million and how the Packers could apply that to the 2022 cap hit. I could only believe in the possibility of Rodgers staying with the team if the Packers are able to retain his services (assuming AR12 would only be willing to agree to that were he given at least three more years at approx. 45 - $50 million per year) without gutting the 2022 roster. It would not make sense to waste brilliant Gute acquisitions in Campbell and Douglas or to let Adams leave if it were possible to retain Rodgers (assuming he wishes to stay) for another three years. Andrew Brandt does not seem to think that the Packers are willing to pay Rodgers what his agent will surely be asking (if I remember his interview with Rich Eisen correctly). I believe this would be an excellent topic for discussion.

TY Aaron - I actually Lol'd at this comment...

To me, there are only two possibilities. Re-sign AR to a contract extension that we shouldn't, or trade him... (Which we should...)

Unless the FO really pisses him off somehow, I don't see AR retiring for at least for two or three years depending on his health.

I have no problem with Gutey and Russ trying to re-sign AR and AR saying "Thanks, but no TY..." Then Gutey showing AR the trade possibilities and AR picking the best situation for him and the Packers

*I will be watching the Pat McAfee Show to find out though... : )

With respect to your comments on this morning's podcast...

Of course I am aware that you have taken into account reports that Rodgers may have spent a few extra days in Green Bay meeting with Gutekunst and co. This may well lead one to be more optimistic when it comes to the possibility of Rodgers returning to the Packers for the 2022 season. It could also be the case that there was no change in Rodgers' thinking and that they agreed that Rodgers would be leaving!?

And I was not playing Mike Wallace in any way. But naturally I was wondering what led to you abandoning your "Rodgers is leaving" stance since I was gradually converted to your original "Gutekunst long term Love installation" theory. I stand by "your" story!

"especially given the enormous chip on his shoulder which will drive him to setting more passing records so he will at least be the second best QB of all time in every statistical category."

It's a shame that "enormous chip on his shoulder" hasn't resulted in a better record than 1-4 in NFCCGs and an embarrassing exit in the divisional round this year. One of the best regular season QBs ever. Playoffs....not so much.
