I'm not sure Gute is. If he drafts for the players that wanted to stay together//. Yes. If he drafts for himself // Love. There is No mission.

The Packers have done a good job by retaining its 2020 player core - 10 on offense, 10 on defense, by my count. (Loss of center and ILB) However, the signing of Kevin King is an example of playing it safe. He represents an insurance policy in the event the Packers are unable to draft a cornerback in the 1st or 2nd round (i.e. an impact player capable of starting). Further, the failure to sign an elite defensive tackle to shore up the run defense is a huge mistake. And please do not cite the salary cap. The cap is infinitely fungible. And the Packers can at any time restructure Aaron Rodgers' contract (converting salary to signing bonus, extending his contract one or two years, etc) to free up the cap space to sign at least one top free agent. And why not trade for the Bears' Akiem Hicks who is now available? Adding a player of his ability would give the Packers' Kenny Clark badly needed help (as Mr Nagler has ponted out) on the run defense. Plus, it would be terrific to stick it to the ugly Bears once again! (Amos is a prime case in point!)

The Packers may not need to add to add elite players to the offense, but the defense is certainly weak at DT, CB, and ILB. Gutekunst has thus far shown himself to be unwilling to spend on an elite CB (please sign Casey Hayward before it is too late) when the need is palpable. Signing Hayward, for example, would allow the Pack to draft a DT, OT, or an elite ILB prospect in the 1st round. We have already wasted a first round choice on QB prospect Jordan Love who will likely never start until 2023 at the earliest and according to statistics has only a 20% chance of becoming an elite QB. Now is the time to strengthen the defense at key positions which will help prevent teams from putting together maddeningly long drives principally by running the ball or finding open receivers on King's side on third down who can pick up additional yards because our LBs are slow and unable to tackle.

That is my official Packers' rant for the day. GO PACK GO!

Just curious...who/what would you trade for Akiem Hicks, in the extremely unlikelihood that the Bears would trade him to a divisional rival?
Btw...the Bears didn't trade Amos to GB. He came via free agency.

I never said or implied that Amos was traded to the Packers. My reference to Amos was that he was a former member of the Chicago Bears. Akiem Hicks is also a Chicago Bears player.

Gute is pretty good what he does. This year we even started out way better than expected.
Last years draft was risky but great. You have to take chances if you want to be special. Love was a no brainer, hope he truns out the right way.
We dont need Hayward if its not for a discount.
