If you place your hope in Russ Ball, you place your hope in a man that turned our roster into Swiss cheese and saved money on the likes of Hayward and Hyde and supposedly stopped us paying for a ST coach.

The only way Ball helps is pushing more and more cap out and burdening the future with dead money. If you trust the cap to go up, remember that when it does, so do player costs (rightly). There is no promised land of unnecessary cap plenty. Dead cap kills at any appreciable level.

Thanks, but i will not put my faith in Ball or the concept of mortgaging the future to repeat a thrice failed strategy while baiting both Father Time and injury.

Sometimes you just have to face the inevitable.

He's not making the personnel decisions this time though, just making the contracts work.

Russian literature.

Try the SciFi book 'The Night Watch', by Sergei Lukyanenko. First book in a series and an excellent story.

Am also currently reading 'The Life and Games of Mikhail Tal'............but that is of interest only to those that play chess.

Nags- I wish you were still wearing your beard for obvious reasons! Guess I will have to put Queens, " We Are the Champions" in the music vault for, yet, another year. GPG!

Please face reality. Russ Ball can't become Harry Houdini and escape the financial chains that bind the team.

Aaron Rodgers won't be back either by trade or retirement. They can't afford D. Adams. The Smiths are too pricey to keep. Randall Cobb is a good guy but has lost a step or two. Kevin King needs nothing much else to say. Billy Turner, Mason Crosby and Mercedes Lewis will also face the ax. Those cuts/trades/not resign will take the Packers from $40 million in the hole to $24 million above cap. The team will need $5-6 million to sign the draft picks/undrafteds. That leaves them $19 million to resign Lazard, Tonyan, Campbell, Douglas and few other key pieces. They will also need another backup QB.

I'm sorry but wandering around saying 'someone help us' is not facing the facts that the Packers have hit the financial wall and now it's time to pick up the pieces, build a new team and move on. It will be painful.

I dont believe those numbers at all. Save 64 million on those cuts. You are not counting dead cap numbers that stay once a player leaves. Adams and king are free agents not in next years cap. Cobb i believe has a 9 million dead cap value. Terrible pickup. There is no 19 million they might still be in the hole

Sorry you don't believe me. That is also counting the dead cap after they leave. Those are Sportrac's numbers. They count the dead cap.

Go to Sportrac...Green Bay Packers salary cap 2022 and have fun(?).

We need to be about 65 million down by September but 40 million down by mid March and that is without any signings or additional money. Rodgers and Z add up to about 35 million in savings after dead cap if both go. We’d still need over 5 million by mid March, then we need a minimum of about 25 million more to sign draft picks, fill holes (cheaply), extend Alexander and have cover for injury related in season pickups. That does not include any significant signings such as Campbell or Douglas.

The Saints are 70 million over. So Just Stop! Campbell and Douglass are not significant. They were pick-ups that proved their worth in Barrys defense. 5 mil. Each. P. Smith will rework his deal to stay with Barry. So the money needs to come from Z who's already posted- thanks. Thats 28. mil. The showdown is with Adams. Expect the Franchise tag. Rodgers will get an extension after that. Cobb is happy. He will take a cut to stay. And Bahk will re-work his deal. Because nobody knows where he is, per coming back. And after missing two play-off games. Cut. Turner is out of a job. And so is King.

What does the Saints cap position. Have to do with ours? It’s so bad there that Payton us having a year off from coaching.

Campbell and Douglas were not significant? Cobb was? I think you have that backwards.

Ken Ingalls has the following and it’s dire:

“2022 Packers Salary Cap Outlook:
Color coded:
🔴-$38.8M: Space as of right now
🟠-$42.7M: Need to clear by March 16th (no trades)
🟡-$53.4M: Space with draft & fill roster with rookies
🔵-$63.3M: Effective space before regular season
⚠️Includes no other signings or extensions”

So carry on with your delusions, but don’t expect it to be unchallenged here.

Stockholder.
The franchise tag must be done by March 8th. The new year (for the NFL) starts March 16th.

Given those two dates, where do the Packers find the money to tag Adams ?

As for 'Campbell is not significant' that is an almost unbelievable statement. The guy went from run-of-the-mill player to pro-bowl invite - he was that good. Rasul may not be quite up in that stratosphere, but he was very good. Both are significant.

As for Bakhtiari, after his restructure, his cap is $22.8m in 2022, $26.3m in 2023, and $30.3m in 2024. You want to push MORE money into those years ???

"Cobb will take a cut to stay" ? Maybe, but it isn't the done deal at all.

One of the best posts I've read. I think you are very close to predicting what will happen with each player. And its probably the right decision from a value point of view.
I hope they can maybe keep ONE of the Smiths. Preston lousy 2020 but had a much better 2021. Z was basically out the whole year. Who knows what he has left?

Everybody said that with the Steelers - there are a whole lot of ways to get out of cap hell - without a whole bunch of dead money either.

We need a Tight End ! One that can CATCH , run a bit faster than an O Lineman and beat LB coverage .And isn't a liability to fumble because he's so slow that 6 guys tackle him and punch the ball out ??! Long snapper and a PK that doesn't take Geritol !!

What other QB has 39 wins out of 47 played games over the last 3 years. Which other Quarterback has 113 TD passes and 13 INTs- over the last 3 years. And people want to jettison him because of one bad game played at 0 F? Come on – he has at least 3 years left in his body. Russ Ball - it is time for you and AR and Adams and the management team to negotiate with these guys to get Adams /AR and other key individuals back. Time for things to settle down and for people to stop the dumb talk. Yes I hated AR's offseason mindgames ( but better than Favres) – and I really hated AR's vaccination mind games as well. But those are different issues. The fact is far he can still play QB – better than most – yes the salary cap and his salary does come into play. So lets just let this play out and the time is now for Ball Gutey and Murph get it done. Because we need to work on free agents and the draft. Love is not ready and not even close to being ready. There is no point in putting him in and there is no point bringing in a free agent QB such as Foles - or my pick would be Trubisky. So go out and get a good Special Teams guy and build from there.
