Watson is the main dog, and the next three are supporting cast. I'd see Doubs as one of those three, but I'm not sure how much of an inside track Toure and Melton have over any draft pick.

Lazard's production is going to be replaceable, but not his impact on the run game. We're going to miss him. We should draft a big WR in round 7. Any suggestions?

Keep an eye on Jonathan Mingo. Big body physical WR. Has risen some. Probably mid rounds.

I've been watching Mingo. It seems like he has some qualities that are pushing him farther down the draft board than you'd think he'd be.

If the Packers do not sign Lazard the Bears will. Sign him for a middle of the pack contract.

Don't sign a guy to keep him away from someone---sign him because you have a plan for him, he makes you better, and he fits into your financials.

I am not saying that we should sign him to keep him away from the Bears. Lazard is worth a middle range contract because he is a good receiver and is a good willing blocker.

The other factor is upside. Is the player justifying his snaps through what he brings to the team or is growing to do so and then contribution live up to his cost? If the answers to any are no, then the experience is actually an impediment since it prevents the team getting better at the position.

I would argue that Cobb is a great Packer past his time as a regular receiver of snaps. Lazard is a more difficult proposition. He’s a role playing 3/4 receiver and premium blocker as a WR. He keeps a potentially more dangerous WR off the field but helps others. I don’t think he’s worth 11 million a year to us. I’m less certain whether we would be better removing him as a crutch for LaFleur’s O. I think price probably makes that decision due to our circumstances. A good piece that our situation probably precludes paying to use as a role player.

If the FO was unwilling to pay MVS $10 mil per, I can't see them paying Lazard $11 mil per

Watson
Doubs
Toure
Melton
Draft
Draft

Draft and develop.

Probably won't contend this year no matter who is under center, so draft and let them develop.

The Packers need to try to keep Lazard. He is a 2nd WR that provides openings for the other WRs. He is a very good blocker which the Packers need. He also provides some veteran leadership in the receiver's room. I agree with drafting and developing but you need leadership too.
