#PackersDaily: David Bakhtiari isn't going anywhere

Brian Gutekunst made it very clear earlier today that he has no plans to trade his All-Pro offensive tackle. Aaron chats with Packers fans worldwide about everything Gutey and the coaches said on Friday as well as all things Green and Gold.

Fantastic.

There's no better way for Jordan Love to start this new era than with an OL with both Bakhtiari starting at LT1 AND Nijman backing him up at LT2.

Here's to David Bakhtiari having a healthy, successful season in 2023, with a magical playoff run, and his name engraved on a Super Bowl ring or two through a long, fulfilling career extension with the Packers.

If a young, enthusiastic & talented team like the Packers can get into the playoffs this season, anything is possible.

Anything is possible, like finding a NFL football player in the 3rd round.

As far as the Packers and Bakhtiari, Gute did the right thing, showed some leadership and backbone and squashed any talk of trading Bakh.

Why trading Bakh is a bad idea....
1) First of all, they reworked Bakh's deal to clear almost 6 million of this years cap.

2) Based on where this offense is...
A) All rookie tight ends
B) Two, one year receivers and the rest rookie's..sans Toure
C) First year starting QB

The last thing this offense and Jordan Love need is to lose an All Pro left tackle, lets be honest, this season is riding on the performance of Bakh and the rest of the line.

The Packers are treating Bakh with kid gloves, reduced practice time, etc.
They know, an injury to him probably translates to a wasted season (exception being player development).

Hell...i look at this entire season being player development regardless, because that's exactly what it is.
Not just on offense, but also with Wyatt, Walker, Slayton, will Stokes turn things around?
Will Douglass start at safety, if so, will all the pre season hype on 7th round Valentine vault him into a starters corner job like some have suggested?

These...are the days of our Packers
Can't wait to see how this all unfolds, as i have since the day Love was drafted.

2025 is creeping up quickly.

I thought trading Bakhtiari at this point was a bad move, and I'm glad the Packer Brass has stomped on that because we don't need distractions. The line is set, the backups are set, and we should hang onto our blockers.

Bakhtiari backed up by Nijman, who also backs up Tom, who backs up Myers and Jenkins. Runyan is the RG. We can keep a solid left side even if guys get injured, rather than risk Love's backside to somebody we're not certain of. HOPEFULLY, Rhyan, Walker, Jones....somebody....develops into an NFL starter. Right now, I don't think any of them are, and I hope we don't have to put them on the field.

i'm of two minds. stability on the line vs better a year too early, than a year too late.

if someone rolls in with 2 #1 picks, well, i'd give it a whole lotta thought.

Same here....

Although for different reasons.
I'm of three minds.

If your rebuilding the offense anyway like they are at QB and receivers and tight ends, two 1#'s wouldn't be a bad move.

Each of Bakhtiari's last 3 seasons, they reduced a total 24.4 million in cap relief, each year kicking money down the road.

There is a better than good chance that this is Bakhtiari's last season with the Packers.
If you don't think the Packers are getting into the playoff's, wouldn't you rather have the draft picks?
If you think they are getting into the playoffs...
After sobering up, ask yourself, how far do you think they are going in the playoffs?

*Bonus reason
Currently...the Jets O line isn't exactly a strength. If Bakh is playing with Rodgers, Rodgers has a better chance of not being injured and therefore playing better than 65% of the snaps.

We should trade Bakhtiari so that Rodgers doesn't get injured and we get pick #24 instead of pick #42????? But doesn't that mean that we've increased the chances of Love taking a blind side shot?

""If you think they are getting into the playoffs...
After sobering up, ask yourself, how far do you think they are going in the playoffs?""

Look, we've got 17 games to play . Let's see how that goes before we start talking about how far we'll go in the playoffs. We don't know how good we're going to be, and we don't know how good anybody else is going to be, and we don't know what key injuries are going to happen to us or anybody else.

Win the division. Win the division. Win the division. And that starts with getting a road win against a divisional opponent in three weeks.

It’s amazing to think the Packers have one of the best OLs in the NFL, possibly in the top 10 overall, despite flux found in grading systems that pervade.

Not ONE 1st round pick in the bunch.

This year’s OL looks deeper than we’ve seen in years, after seeing some considerable improvement from Rhyan, Jones & Walker, all in only their 2nd years.

We’ll find out tonight where their true development lies in what is looking to be a great test, facing NE.

In other news, Aaron Rodgers was sacked 6 times in 10 drop backs in the Jets joint practice with Tampa Bay on Wednesday.

Weren't Jenkins and Myers both 2nd round picks?

Oops. Lol. Never mind! Too funny. I was thinking first and threw second round picks in there too, not thinking.

I need more coffee.

Thanks for that, my friend. Amended. With a little special sauce at the end…!

My understanding is they cancelled their Thursday joint practice after that.

Like politicians coaches have their public thoughts and they have their private thoughts. I am happy with Bakhtiari as our starting tackle. Yet to play devils' advocate; the Jets are deeply committed in win-now mode and may be ripe for a fleecing. Everyone and every team has a price. In private, it is wise to always listen to offers. What would the Packers do if they received in future drafts two number ones and two number twos plus a couple of dominating players? That likely won't happen but stranger things have happened.

Gute said what he should have said: GB has no plans to trade Bakhtiari. He may have said: "we're not trading Bakh" but everyone should know he meant not right now. Clearly, GB might be trading him next March. There is no sense in suggesting that the Packers are looking to trade Bakh. And there are good and sufficient reasons to keep Bakh for now, though I would reevaluate at the trade deadline.

Then again, Gute can repeat his mistake by waiting another year to trade Bakh. I mean, trading with the Jets was preferable to trading with Denver the year prior. Let's wait too long again!
