Packers trade CB Josh Jackson to the Giants for CB Isaac Yiadom

Yiadom join his third team in four seasons.

Rob has the goods:

The trade is the classic change-of-scenery swap for two disappointing players.

The 25-year-old Yiadom started ten games for the Giants in 2020 after being traded from Denver before the season. He had five pass breakups, a forced fumble and one half sack with the Giants.

Jackson was a second-round pick for the Packers in 2018. He started ten games in his rookie season and five games in 2020.

Jackson was gonna get cut, Packers get a flier on another day 2 CB with absolutely no risk.

Disappointing result for Jackson's time in GB but a good maneuver to at least come away with something for him when his value is at an all-time low.

Maybe the change will be good for both players. Jackson was probably going to be cut anyhow. So there's nothing lost and hopefully something gained. Time will tell. Good luck to both players.

Packers also gain about $400k in cap space through this deal.

Looks like both won't make it. Doubt this new guy makes the team. And the trade makes the cut no longer a big deal. Probably a win for both teams.

The Packers and Giants visited the basements of each and made a swap.

Smart move - a cut for a cut ( possibly here too). Some guys need a fresh start. Some guys need familiarity. In this case - Jackson didnt live up to his draft status and of course Gute's first draft but MM was still the coach and TT was hanging around

This is better than chucking Jackson and getting nothing in return. Maybe we'll end up chucking the new guy but it's worth a shot. Thanks, Since '61

Gutedkunst can cut this guy and save face. The Jackson fail was a critical factor in the stretch run defeat to the T-Bucs as the secondary had no one to step up and fill for a suspect King and/or his injuries. The Josh Jones whiff was the first domino. He moved His Guy in a swap and all is good in FANtasy land.

The plus here for the Packers is they guy they are getting actually plays special teams (498 snaps).

That's a great observation Al. But who gets cut for this guy to make the team? If ento makes it this dude would be the 7th corner. Maybe king is gone .. they are going to need special teams considering Malik Taylor will most likely be on practice squad with funchess playing like he is.

Did the new guy play any Special Teams?
I hit enter and just saw my question answered above. Thanks Al !

Jackson had one great year...2018 at Iowa playing zone CB. With Barry playing a lot of zone, you would think Jackson would show he belonged as a depth player in practice and on Saturday.

He didn't. His instincts and reaction time vs NFL receivers is poor.

Matt: what you you think about Jackson?

Joe: can't play, can't use him.

Seems pretty difficult for Issac to come in with about 3 weeks left and beat out one of several young DB's for a roster spot.

Probably not likely, but he has a better shot than Jackson who had no chance of making the team after the Houston debacle. At least the special teams got some help (and they need it!).

If he looks good enough, maybe stash in on PS for when injuries inevitably occur.

If they keep 6 CBs, and 5 are already set (Stokes, Alexander, King, Sullivan, and Jean-Charles), that means the top CBs left are Ento and Hollman. He's got a chance...and if he's a decent gunner, all the better. As an experienced CB, I don't know if he'd make it to the PS (or even accept that path if offered).

– Last season, Yiadom allowed six touchdown passes and had no interceptions and five pass breakups.

– Yiadom has missed 20 career tackles and committed eight penalties.

Well it was obvious from Saturdays preseason game J Jackson was done. #2 draft pick I would say our GM made another weak selection. Curious to see how many more veterans get cut in the next two weeks.

Years ago, the Packers and Falcons had a problem. They both had players they wanted to cut, but those players were popular with their teammates. Therefore, they traded these players, and both got cut, and all was well. This was back in the '80's. Any memories on this topic would be welcome.

I'm generally pretty happy with Gutekunst as a GM and I'm glad he made this trade. But still the biggest takeaway here isn't that Gutey managed (maybe) to salvage something, but that Jackson was a pretty big whiff on a second round pick. That kind of tempers my enthusiasm a little bit.

Yiadom was a third-round comp pick (#99) in 2018. So he went a round and a half later.

Jackson had zero value to us at this point. This guy plays STs and might be better suited to zone. Zero for maybe a tad more than zero makes sense and saves a small amount of cap.

It just signals that the Packers were done with Jackson and interested enough to give another guy a tryout and recoup a little bit of cap. Personally, I am glad that the Jackson era is done and someone else will get a chance to develop with his snaps.

Sad for me personally as Josh played golf at my course last summer, using my clubs (Packers golf bag & driver head cover) & I got a picture of him as well as 2 weeks later my son got a picture of him as we bumped into him at a restaurant by the Star (Cowboys facility area), right at the booth next to him LOL.
I enjoyed chatting with him..... I thought he should have played safety.

I also think that if Jackson has any chance of extending his career - it would be as a safety. He just lacks the burst and quickness for a CB. Meanwhile, he's already made $5m - so he should be well-set for another career - should the Giants be his last NFL stop.

I wish Gute could have thrown Kevin King in with the deal. For something of comparable value from NY like, maybe, a Zabar’s Chocolate Bobka. At least half a loaf, anyway.
