Packers sit 30 players for preseason game against Texans
Matt LaFleur true to form in keeping his frontline guys under wraps during preseason contests.
By PackerAaron
Matt LaFleur indicated earlier in the week that Aaron Rodgers wouldn't be playing in the team's first preseason game. He also said some select veterans would probably have the night off as well.
The Packers have, in fact, sat 30 players for tonight's preseason matchup with the Houston Texans at Lambeau Field.

Well Love is far superior to Aaron Rodger in one respect: his hair.
Nijman looks decent. At least against this competition.
Love throws into double coverage too much.

Nijman looked okay until he missed the block on the fumble by Love.

Agreed. My post was sometime in the late first quarter.

Does this tell us anything about who is more likely to make the team? Because if they are sitting their starters and immediately backups, does that mean the guys on the field are those who are fighting for a spot on the PS? OK, obviously not Love or some of the other playing, but guys like Winfree sitting is a surprise.

I wouldn’t read too much into it. I read somewhere Winfree has some type of injury.

Love looks like he belongs. I see the talent. He just needs time. The makeshift backup O-line certainly doesn’t help him any.

Funchess will be a tough cut. He’s a mismatch

Concur. That one handed grab was spectacular.

I think the whole WR room is a real challenge. I also wonder how much of a role future planning will play in this process. There are four players who I think are locks (Adams, Rodgers, Cobb and MVS). I think everyone else is on the bubble.

I wonder if they keep six just because they have so few under contract for next year? I think Lazard and Funchess (based on tonight) might be tough cuts.

So all the offensive starters sit. We get to see what Love can do with rookies and JV players before he sits for another season. Can't believe it.

Our run defense doesn't look good. Too much over pursuit and too little gap responsibility.

I mean, given the personnel on the field, I'm not sure how much we can really take out of this game with respect to units (except maybe special teams). It is really about individual players.

I will draw no big conclusions from a game when 30 players on your roster sit out. I totally understand why but c’mon most of these guys aren’t making the team. Jordan Love does look like he can play a bit. Will be fun to watch him play/develop against whatever level of opposition during the preseason.
