Packers Select CB Ka'dar Hollman in 2019 NFL Draft Round 6, Pick 185
The Packers select Ka'Dar Hollman, CB from Toledo, with pick 185.
By TimBackes
With the 185th selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, Brian Gutekunst selected Ka'dar Hollman, cornerback, Toledo
Measurables:
4.37 40-yard dash / 39-inch vertical
Career Notes:
Hollman could not land a scholarship offer after playing his high school ball in New Jersey and then playing at Milford Academy, a well-known prep school in New York. Toledo took a shot on his talent, offering him a preferred walk-on spot. He redshirted in 2014 and played in just two games the following year, making two tackles. The coaches gave him a scholarship prior to his sophomore season and he responded by starting 8 of 13 games (33 tackles, eight pass breakups). Hollman started all 14 games in 2017 (35 tackles, seven pass breakups) and completed his career with the Golden Rockets by leading the MAC with 12 pass breakups (to go along with 43 tackles and an interception).
SCOUTING REPORT:
BLEACHERREPORT.COM: Above-average speed that can keep up with nearly anyone. Aggressive with his hands throughout the entire rep. Solid change of direction that makes him a potential boundary or slot corner. Able to turn and run in-phase with the best receivers in the nation thanks to top-tier speed and athleticism. Hand placement in press is inconsistent, wide and more grabby than it is disrupting. Rocks on his heels at the line of scrimmage and can have his balance manipulated too easily. "Dive and pray" tackler who doesn't show consistent technique and will get abused by NFL backs.
DRAFTANALYST.COM: Athletic cornerback prospect with terrific next-level measurables. Stays with assignments, mixes it up with opponents and has an aggressive style. Keeps the action in front of him, plays heads-up football and competes to defend the throw. Gets his head back around to locate the pass. Quick up the field to defend running plays and screen passes. Effectively makes the calls in the secondary. Not always on balance. Not a surehanded tackler. Late to transition off the line when he follows opponents downfield. Hollman possesses terrific measurables and has shown good development the past two seasons, which could help him find a place on a practice squad this summer.

Here is a "highlight" reel for Hollman from YouTube but there's not much to point to:
COMMENTARY:
Hallmon offers very good speed but is extremely raw. His story is that of a fighter and one who perseveres, having scratched and clawed his way onto Toledo's roster as a walk on. The Packers will be lucky if he's able to crack the roster as depth in their cornerback room. Special teams could get Hollman a spot and he's at least a great developmental prospect for the team's practice squad.

Listening to the phone interview on Packers.com - this guy has worked his butt off for every opportunity he's received. Given his elite measurables it seems like you can't ask for much more than this in the 6th round.

Im happy to have another CB, however, wasn't WR Kelvin Harmon still on the board ?

I would have liked to see Penny Hart drafted instead...maybe.
I'm wondering now if the Packers don't look for a veteran WR once cuts begin or a few UDFA. Clearly they really like MVS and ESB and look for big jumps.

I’m pretty high on a number of our young receivers, and it seems the Packers are even higher on them. Fairly clear that Gute believes last year’s offensive drafts are going to come through and thus has undertaken a similar reshaping on D this year.
With Madison too, our O Line competition should be getting a lot stronger as well after this draft.

Our D iwill be drastically better than last year after adding 3 FAs and 5 Drafted D players. Lots of speed and Athleticism, also

I've never heard of this guy but it is not my job to know him. 6 ft and elite athleticism from a 6th round CB is not a bad pick.

Perhaps they’ll make Rashan Gary his roommate.

I see the Packers battling the Lions for the bottom. Be to draft and get mean players. If Kansas City let s Hill go, they need to pick him up immediately. They had a chance to get Karem Hunt and failed.

Decent player, but he will be 25yrs old as a rookie. Too old for a developmental player, and some interesting talent left on the board at this pick. Should have been a 7th rd/UDFA.

Not at all. This is not a question of physical development. Could have a good career even allowing for a couple of seasons of refinement

I’m not questioning that, he’s got all the physical tools and he could very well be a player. I’m just questioning where he went and where they should’ve targeted him, while leaving some intriguing players on the board at that spot.
