Without Jaire, we have 3 starting caliber, but nothing special cornerbacks. I like Valentine, hopefully Hobbs lives up to the contract, but we have no proven depth. Best wishes for Kalen, we need him.

I think Jaire stays and has a solid season, which could make this defense very good. Fingers and toes crossed.

This is exactly why I enjoy Cheesehead Tv . It is a place where I can find some relief when I read about the many opportunities for Kalen King ahead on behalf of the Packers .

I remember on draft day when one of the talking heads said to "watch this King kid that the Packers just drafted, he will be a good one"....well I guess its time then...

We only carry 5 CBs on the 53 and we only dress 4 for the games. Three of those spots have guys that have played well in the league. You'd probably think that King has the inside spot for #4, but there are FA CBs out there that are affordable.
I think in a perfect Packer world, the only CBs that see any real field time for us this year are Nixon, Valentine, and Hobbs.

They essentially need someone to replace Eric Stokes, whose playing time was virtually down to zero by the end of the season--and that was without Nate Hobbs on the team. So yeah, the #4 outside CB probably won't play significant snaps unless one (or two) of the other three get injured. Kalen King and Kamal Hadden look like the front runners, but the team could bring in more competition.
Of course, if Jaire Alexander returns and stays healthy (I'll believe it when I see it), it will be even harder for one of these backups to get on the field. But even without Alexander, it's looking okay. The slot CB position is in good hands with Javon Bullard, plus Nixon and Hobbs playing there when needed, and we have at least three battle-tested players at outside CB. I don't think there would be so much fretting if these three players were higher draft picks instead of a 5th, a UDFA, and a 7th. All of them have outplayed their draft positions.

The Packers are not going to bet $17M that this guy will play more than 12 games. Unless he agrees to a paycut, he's going to be cut. The the thing is, we have right up until the roster cutdowns to release him .
If we cut him, we'll still owe him a bunch, but nobody else is going to pay him a $17M salary. If he wants to play football and make money and have a shot at the playoffs, his best move would be to find an accommodation with the Packers. I don't think that's going to happen.
Apparently, it's easier to pick up a competent CB in FA than it is in the draft, which makes me wonder why you'd spend a high draft pick the position.
