Packers Daily Links: Team Calls Murphy-Stanford Rumor "Speculation"

A Packers spokesman called rumors about Mark Murphy and the Stanford A.D. job "speculation." That and more in today's Daily Links...

Following the publishing of a rumor by the San Francisco Chronicle that Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy might be a candidate for the athletic director job at Stanford, the Packers have shot it down as speculation. "The Green Bay Packers insisted on Monday there was no validity to a report that team president Mark Murphy might be a candidate to become the athletic director at Stanford University," writes Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. Murphy was reportedly a candidate for the same job back in 2006, which is probably the basis for the current speculation.

More on Mark Murphy comes from ESPNWisconsin.com.

Wide receiver Donald Driver competed in the finals of ABC's Dancing With The Stars on Monday evening. "Driver and Peta Murgatroyd’s Week 10 'Freestyle' performance was invigorating and had a perfect score to match it," reads a recap at the Packers official website. "The duo received 59 out of 60 total combined points for the night and are tied for second place in this Season 14 contest of 'Dancing with the Stars.'" The winner will be crowned on Tuesday evening during the season finale of the show.

More on Donald Driver appears at the Press-Gazette while some analysis from former Packers running back Ahman Green comes from WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee.

The Packers official website interviewed rookie defensive backs Casey Hayward and Sean Richardson who were friends and teammates at Vanderbilt and remain so in Green Bay. “We help each other out, give advice, go over the playbook together,” Richardson is quoted as saying. “It’s great having someone you know with you along for the ride and experiencing the same journey.” Hayward is a good bet to make the roster in 2012, but Richardson is going to fight an uphill battle to make the team. If he does, their friendship will remain a feel-good story.

Wide receiver Jordy Nelson was interviewed for an article appearing at Fox Sports Wisconsin in which he was asked about his strong production in 2011 and how it affects his future. "I can't let it drop off," Nelson is quoted as saying. "Now that I'm there, it's even harder to stay there. I just have to continue to be consistent. There's things I can work on, getting better off the release, better routes, everything." Nelson also talked about how he thought he would have been named to the Pro Bowl last season.

An addition to the Neville Public Museum in Green Bay called "Football the Exhibit" was recently added. A display of Packers uniforms was added just for the exhibit.

First-round draft choice Nick Perry is featured in an article at Packer Report.

A column on the potential retirement of Brett Favre's number is posted at Pocket Doppler.
