Packers Coaching in College: Pelini Has First Big Ten Home Game

Following a loss to Wisconsin last week, former tight ends coach Bo Pelini returns home for meeting against Ohio State on national TV.

Several former Green Bay Packers players and coaches are now coaching in the college ranks. Here's a brief preview as Week 4 of the college season gets underway...

  • Following a loss to Wisconsin last week that wasn't even close, Nebraska (4–1)––with former tight ends coach Bo Pelini as head coach––returns home to play their first Big Ten Conference home game against an Ohio State team that gets suspended tackle Mike Adams back. The loser of the game will have two losses in conference play while the winner stays alive in the chase to play in the inaugural Big Ten championship game. Today's game will be nationally televised on ABC this evening at 7:00 p.m. Central time.
  • Former wide receivers coach James Franklin has exceeded expectations as the head coach at Vanderbilt, opening up with a 3–1 record. However, the test gets significantly stronger today as the Commodores travel to undefeated Alabama where they'll be nearly 30 point underdogs. The game is on ESPNU at 7 p.m.
  • Under former Packers head coach Mike Sherman and right-hand man Tom Rossley, Texas A&M (2–2) has lost consecutive games to two decent, ranked teams, Oklahoma State and Arkansas. They get a small shot at redemption today as the Aggies travel to undefeated Texas Tech for a game televised on FX at 6:00 p.m.
  • Miami––with former Packers linebacker Mark D'Onofrio as defensive coordinator and former defensive line coach Jethro Franklin holding the same position––has been a bit of a disappointment with a 2–2 record. But a road win over Virginia Tech would be just what the doctor ordered. They play in a regionally televised game this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. on either ABC or ESPN.
  • Former director of player development Turner Gill has a tough task in front of him as he leads Kansas into a road date with undefeated Oklahoma State at 2:30 p.m.
  • Former running back Noah Herron is a graduate assistant at Indiana (1–4)  who hosts undefeated Illinois this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
  • Carroll University in Waukesha, Wis., where former linebacker John Anderson is an assistant coach, has their homecoming game against Lawrence today at 3 p.m.
