Packers bring back Ibraheim Campbell, release RB Corey Grant
The veteran safety is coming back from a torn ACL suffered in Week 13 of the 2018 season.
By PackerAaron
All offseason, consensus around folks who cover and follow the team regularly was that the Packers would, at some point, bring back safety Ibraheim Campbell.
The former 4th round pick out of Northwestern was picked up later in the 2018 campagin and was solid in the three weeks he played, tallying 18 tackles and one forced fumble.
Campbell, who was a free agent, ended up suffering a torn ACL in Week 13.
The Packers made that move today.
The Packers have released recently signed RB Corey Grant and re-signed veteran DB Ibraheim Campbell (placed on PUP), per league source.

In addition, the Packers made another move:
In addition to the moves that @FieldYates reported, the Packers have also waved injured 2018 7th-round pick Kendall Donnerson

This may be the handwriting on the wall for Josh Jones.

Could equally be that Greene is needed at true safety and who else is there in line at Jones’ position?
That said, I don’t recall hearing of or seeing a single positive play cited for Jones thus far.

Outside of the incident with Carson, he's actually had a really solid camp.

Is that nice for invisible or have you seen him make impact plays?

Very possible that Campbell may not be ready to play soon and will be unavailable 'til week 8.

Campbell is stashed on the PUP until December. Jones stays on board to show some positive film,or his bargaining position will keep moving long on quicksand.

Til December? That's the entire season basically. There's no way he would have to take up a roster spot til December.

Unless he's a fast healer,He blew his knee out last December. PUP designation at least until NOV with roster exemption.

Seems like the only loyalty Gute has is to someone he thinks will be able to make plays. So far really liking his approach.

Hard to make plays when you're retired. Gute made it so Jordy could retire a Packer sounds like a class act to me.

Loved Jordy but if he could still make TONS of plays, he would still be on the Raiders roster, or another NFL roster.

Jordy, a consumate Pro. However he is not to be confused with Jerry Rice and Art Monk on the longevity list. Anquan Bolden another tough dude who understood the route tree.

Glad to see Campbell back, but wasn't Grant considered an option for return duties? If so that could be good news for Davis.

Kicks yes, punts not clear as no record. Was a fast back with hands. Clearly didn’t show well.
Shepherd and Jawill Davis also return both.

Interesting that they signed Campbell and placed him on the PUP list while he continues to recover from his knee injury.

Very much outside the TT playbook. His injury was Dec. 2nd I think. Could be he is close and other teams were sniffing or, as Dobber said, he is there for in season reinforcement.
Right now, we have 2 open roster spots to fill. Gute keeps it interesting. I am available for 2 weeks and no games for $60k Brian!

Likely for the preseason only. They'll probably activate him when regular season starts and work him in slowly.

Trevor Davis injured yet again, like King. Wish we could have seen Grant in the preseason at least.

Got to think Grant did something to alienate (play-wise). Not like they have a ton of healthy backs. I wanted to see him too. Odd that they had Hackett recruit him.
Personally, I’m sorry we never got to see if Donnerson could do anything. Tons of athleticism. That leaves a spot open after only signing Campbell today. That is a good move I think.
PS two, since Campbell goes on the PUP

Trevor Davis took a cheap shot during joint practices, I don't think this can be pinned on his injury history.

History is more than one injury. Returners get those shots, fair or not. It’s a tough role.

Gute just doesn't stop with his churning of the roster.. Think what will happen once the games begin.--- Look for some more surprises..... especially in the BU QB area if Kizer, Boyle or Wilkins show little. ---- I just don't believe Gute will take a chance with a BU QB that may put an entire season at risk.

"At risk" might not be so bad. At this point I think Kizer would turn this season into a laughingstock.

Kizer was his deal. He's stuck with him unless Wilkens can start to show some play making ability. I would deal for a backup.

If Gute thinks one of the back up QB's is the guy with most potential I think this year they will go with two on active 53 with one on PS if they clear. The back up needs reps, and they need that extra spot for another young talent.

Good move signing Campbell. More good news, just about every key player for the Packers has been scratched for tonight’s meaningless game. Good job by MLF. Thanks, Since ‘61

Little surprised they waived Donnerson too, thought he could still be a project or even stashed on the PS another year, Packers do not believe so

Nothing stopping them from putting Donnerson on practice squad eventually, if he clears waivers.

I would have liked to see Grant get more of a chance in TC and the Preseason, especially if Hackett liked him. Sill like to see them pick up another RB with some experience and hopefully speed.
