Cornerback, Edge, O-line and TE are the position groups with the most question marks this year. But I would say TE & Edge are the 2 positions we need to go find some help outside the team. I sort of understand waiting to see what players become available thru cuts as far as TE goes, although my way to attack that Y TE hole would be to identify a player we wanted and try to make a trade. Get it done now, get the player in camp and get him coached up for what we need.
Similarly, we have a hole at Edge, there are players available right now and they are not expensive. I am talking about Clowney, Epenesa, and Cameron Jordan. If cheap is the ticket, then Epenesa, if medically cleared, is probably available for $2-3 million. He fits what we need. Clowney will cost a little more, maybe $4-5 million, but is coming off a great year in Dallas. Jordan had a fabulous year for New Orleans, and is projected @ $6 million. All 3 are available now but will have other suiters too. Just pick one and get him signed. Parsons will miss around 4 games. LVN has done ZERO in 3 years and while I like DDS, Cox, and Sorrell, they haven't done anything either, YET.
The Cisse news is awesome; my question is why we waited so long to infuse some talent into the CB position group. At the very least we have 4 NFL quality starting caliber CBs to start the year. A big uptick from a year ago.

I have a different perspective on the Edge group gp61. Due to three factors I think the Packers wait until training camp before deciding on whether another Edge is necessary:
(1) The Packers don't know when Parsons will return. He may miss anywhere from 0-8 weeks of the season. If the missed time is going to be on the low side (0-2 weeks), another veteran might not be necessary. The Packers will know more a couple of months from now than they do today about Parsons' early season availability.
(2) The Packers need to get a good look at Cox, Sorrell, Oliver and DDS before deciding to spend money on another vet. TC will give them the opportunity to evaluate those players and decide whether the need more at Edge.
(3) Guys like Clowney, Epenesa, Jordan, Reddick etc. etc. have all been available for three months now and remain unsigned. There is no pressure for any team to sign them now and they likely will remain unsigned until TC when teams like the Packers and others are making personnel decisions.
I don't know whether the Packers will need another Edge or not and the fact that they haven't signed one yet leads me to believe they aren't sure either. The Packer FO will know more in a couple of months and then will make a decision about another veteran Edge. I just don't see anything happening until TC.

Just as in the NFL Draft, we all know how this works Guam, one guy gets signed and then there is a run on the position because teams don't want to miss out completely. That's what will happen because there are 5-8 teams, including the Bears & Vikings that need Edge rushers. Just look at what Enagbare got from the Jets, there is no world where he is worth twice as much as Clowney & 3 times as much as Epenesa. This is such a no-brainer cheap insurance policy in case Parsons misses even 2-4 games. It's malpractice not to do it.
I understand but don't subscribe to "seeing what the first year players & rookies have to offer" , while potentially starting 2 & 2 instead of 4 & 0 in our easiest part of the schedule. Just spend the 5 million, get actual NFL production right away, give Parsons the time he needs to be 90-100%, and if we want to, trade the Edge away for a 3rd or 4th round pick mid-season.
Training camp will be too late, we will end up signing Joe Nobody because the players that could have helped will be gone.

I understand your perspective, but don't agree with it. I think the Packers will wait till TC. Since neither one of us is the GM of the Packers, we will have to see what Gute does.

I’m with Golf on this 100%.
They are both proven commodities. We can dump who we wish in camp.
