McCarthy: Jared Abbrederis Out "Several Weeks"

The second year wide receiver has reportedly dealing with a rib injury.

Mike McCarthy gave a sobering update on second year wide receiver Jared Abbrederis when he met with reporters this afternoon.

According to the head coach, Abby will miss "several weeks" due to the injury he suffered against the Lions.

While McCarthy didn't specifically say what the injury was, it has been widely reported that Abbrederis is dealing with injuries to his ribs.

It's a real shame to see the kid back on the shelf after finally looking like he was ready to contribute to an offense that is struggling mightly and in desperate need of a spark. Here's hoping rookie Ty Montgomery is finally able to take the field this Sunday and provide just that.

A. Not a concussion = good news.

B. I know a lot of people are going to say this further proves he's too small for the NFL. And maybe that's true. But that was a big hit he took directly to the back. I think pretty much any WR would be lucky to come out of that hit uninjured.

It was hit with the crown of the helmet. Something that defender should be flagged and take at least fine... It was direct product of the officiating crew "criteria"... Worst officiating after replacement officials and Fail Mary I was watching...

Croatpackfan...confirms what I have been saying all week long... the constant NON calls on are receivers was maddening to watch.

Nice post @Evan

I'm anxious to get Abby back. When Ty and Abby are back and healthy I wonder if we would see more 4 WR sets. Especially if the TE group continues its (lack of) production.

I wonder why he doesn't get near the amount of backlash as Nick Perry.

Round drafted, possibly? 1st rounders are much more scrutinized, as you know. And, it's only his second year.

When Montgomery and Abbrederis come back I would love to see some 5 WR sets. Ty could also be their RB so they could have a rushing threat even though the defense would be in a dime defense.
Getting them back healthy would do a lot for our offense.

Just when I was getting my hopes up that Team TT and Mac were getting there heads out of the sand! Tough tough break....all Abederras has done his whole career is make things happen whenever and however he touches the ball.... it was a nasty hit with the helmet.

Glad you said what you did Evan. I knew a number of people would get on Abby for being too brittle, but I guarantee you ANY player hit like he was would be in pain. Someone could make a case he's injury prone, but not from that play. Maybe just unlucky.

That was one of the hardest hits I've seen all year by any player.

What else is new. Can't stay healthy. Too weak and frail for the Big Boys League.

Raise your hand if you think Abbrederis will have a long and productive NFL career. ---- That's what I thought.

GB gave up on CJ in a blink. Abby won't last in GB much longer.

Darn. After seeing him finally play I thought he could really help out fixing what ails us. I'd sure love to have the Pack to catch a break someday on the injury front. Well, maybe everything is aligning for everyone to be healthy for a playoff run. Not expecting many home games at this rate, but we've taken the long way before.

So do they start scouring the waiver wire for a receiver? Welker already taken, but hey, isn't Randy Moss available?? :)

make a trade for another receiver wait a minute that would mean losing a 16th round draft pic.

Please stop. If they had a 16th round Ted would get rid of all his two and three picks to load up on these cheap sobs and they would miraculously make the team.
Tight ass Ted is what I call him

Too bad. The dude could be an effective slot WR in the NFL. But he does have a very slight frame and a history of injury. I'm not terribly surprised.

That said, MM did say that Janis was the next guy up and that he'd have the opportunity to make the most of the snaps he'll be given.

This team with a functional Janis > than this team with yet another functional slot WR. We already have 3 of those. (Cobb, Montgomery and Abby)

Vikings win 27-13 Packers haven't been able to beat a good team on the road since their Super Bowl year.
