Hi Aaron, watching the game yesterday made me wonder why spiking the ball at the line of scrimmage is not considered grounding?

Probably same reason they never call pass interference on Hail Marys when everyone is fighting for the ball .

Because the quarterback is not in the grasp or about to be tackled by a defender.

Rodgers needs to watch other games. Try the Saints. Watch Drew Brees. Pass the friggin ball and stop thinking about possible interceptions.

Absolutely right kentspotts! You certainly hit the nail on the head with that assessment of Rodgers. Brees just takes a three-4 step drop, plants feet, picks out a receiver in stride and throws over the middle. The offense never lets up on the gas as they go up 34-0 on the Colts!! Packers got up 21-3 and just went conservative and were content to just punt the ball and let the Bears just keep making their comeback.

Brees doesn’t wait for a receiver to be wide open before throwing; he leads receivers and lets them make a play on the pass. He’s confident in his skills while Rodgers hesitates and is not aggressive. Rodgers does indeed need to watch Brees and start throwing more quickly to his receivers to sustain drives...and stop holding the ball so long, especially in 3rd down situations. If he doesn’t change his approach the Packers 11-3 record will mean little and the Vikings will dominate the game. Rodgers should be at 70% in pass completion not 50% or they will lose next week and in the playoffs. It’s all on Rodgers and how he plays the QB position.

Throwing interceptions does not help you win. Rodgers only took one sack last week, so he obviously wasn’t holding the ball too long.

Conservative offense wins games. That’s a demonstrated fact.

Rodgers reminded me of Bart last weekend. Careful, deliberate, and managing a win. I like it.

It sure makes a difference when:
1. You are playing against the no. 15 defense instead of no.8
2. Your receivers don't get stuffed at the line, run their routes and get open
3. Your receivers catch the damn ball
4. Pass protection doesn't let the defender drive them back into your face

That makes a big difference doesn't it?

I was thinking the same thing. However. . . Look at the veterans that Brees has to throw to. Absolute trust in receivers breaking off routes, adapting to coverage schemes, being ready to catch a back shoulder throw. Do you really think MVS, GA, or others have gained #12s trust? Therein lies the problem. Although I would like to see more passes thrown into coverage thinking the receiver will make a play (Lazard seems most likely to do so).

When the ball is snapped to a place kicker who has his knee on the ground shouldn't that be a dead play, before the kicker kicks it? Just saying.

Doug,
Know you were a big fan of Gary at draft time. Did you catch the sack by Gary?

:)

All joking aside Gary looked good! Maybe the least talked about positive about signing the Smith's is their impact on Gary.

Since it has all been so relentlessly negative covering the Packers lately. Here are some possible reasons why the Packers are 11 - 3. Admittedly the overall offensive and defensive statistics are middle of the road pretty much across the board, but there are these exceptions:

3rd fewest penalty yards in the nfl, number 2 in fewest turnovers lost in the NFL, number 2 in red zone scoring efficiency. Number 2 in the nfl on turnover differential, number 5 in red zone defense. number 9 defense in points per game given up.

So obviously this is a team that is not dynamic, but doesn't make mistakes, scores when in the red zone, stops the other team when in the red zone and gives themselves a chance to win.

Great post (coming from one who has been very critical of Packers - actually, mostly Rodgers).

But the question remains - how would Packers be if AR played smarter. Ok - even if you grant that his skills have waned, there is so much more he could do by just giving what the D gives him, not holding on to the ball, etc.

Most football games are not won, they are lost. This is an efficient team that doesn’t beat itself very often.

Another contributing factor is health in 2019. We've played with most of our preferred starters all year. It really makes a difference.

Copied from "Fansided"

Rodgers has simply refused to throw the ball without holding onto it for at least three or four seconds. Rodgers has become the most conservative quarterback in the entire league and is no longer the best quarterback in the world.

This was all on full display against the Bears at home. Let’s not mince words; Rodgers was terrible against Chicago. His accuracy, decision-making, and mechanics were painful to watch throughout the da

Let's not blame this entirely on Rodgers. The were 3 or 4 blatant drops that stifled opportunities to put points on the board. Let's also recognize, it was cold baby!

It's crazy how much crap Rodgers has taken this year. Perspective: The Pack is 11-3 with an average (of occasionally, slightly better) D, a first-year head coach, a pretty good O-line (though hardly great), bad tight ends, a superb #2 receiver who is an average #1 (Adams) and not much else, and among the better RBs in Aaron Jones.

No, this isn't quite the #12 who made a team with 6-10 talent relevant for years, but he's still playing well. Now, in the last two weeks, he has made a couple poor decisions which took points off the board. Guilty. Does he sometime hold the ball too long? Perhaps. But if Rodgers didn't "hold the ball too long" over the years, this team would have absolutely sucked. Game after game. Year after year.

Hopefully, the team will have the design and talent to scheme guys open, something that almost didn't happen under MM. How many times...and not just on Hail Marys...did Rodgers buy WRs all kind of time and still have to throw it into a thimble. Even the back-shoulder throws were, essentially, so successful, because WRs weren't schemed open or winning one-on-one battles otherwise, and you had the best QB (perhaps, ever) throwing it into a tight window.

He can't do this forever, and hopefully, he and MLF will take this to a higher level in the postseason, and in the coming years.

This game isn't for " A Franky's Hot dog” But Now is the time to Nuke a German hotdog. Zygmunt "Zygi” Wilf Vikings are not royalty. And those purple uniforms don’t have anything to do with honor. The horns they wear don’t carry gun powder. It’s a trophy that needs to be mounted. So while they speak of trophies: The Ed Thorp Trophy is in GreenBay! Along with several Lombardi Trophies. And we need to keep it that way.

The Packers have a mission, to go to Minnesota and beat the Vikings! Ever since scrambling Fran Tarkington ran for 40 yards to throw a 5 yard pass. They need to physically beat up the Vikings. Run the ball as much as possible to pound on them. Punish Cousins and whoever touches the ball for the Vikings. Sweep the Vikings! The Vikings get the media support, hello the Packers beat you in wk 2! Please pulverize these guys because if we lose, the Packer fans are going to have to listen to these arrogant Viking supporters! They swept the Bears now kick the crap out of the Vikings! For 1 game please come out and dominate these guys and shut up NFL Network, Tony Dungy, Mike Florio, Deion Sanders who have all said the Packers will lose this. I will sue every Packer player, coach, waterboy if they lose in Minnesota!
