Devonte Wyatt signs contract ahead of rookie minicamp

The Packers rookie is the first first-round selection from this year's draft to agree to a deal with his new team.

Devonte Wyatt is wasting no time.

Per Schefter:

Since the contracts for draft picks are slotted, due to the collective bargaining agreement, the terms were pretty much known going in: four years and $12.861 million, which includes a $6.534 million signing bonus. The contract is fully guaranteed. The Packers also get a 5th year option they can excercise.

Wyatt’s Year 1 cap number will be almost $2.338 million.

Wyatt is the first first-round pick out of the 2022 draft class to sign a deal with his new team.

For more info on the rookie wage scale and how the contracts are slotted, I highly recommend this post from former NFL agent Joel Corry.

A dream come true, really. Never thought we’d have this opportunity.

Hmmm… Last time we drafted a DL & LB in the same draft R1… !!!

Welcome to Green Bay, Devonte!

Wyatt becomes the 1st player from the 2022 NFL Draft to sign with him team? My, how times have changed here in GB… AWESOME.

So you're saying there's a chance... ; )

Devonte > Raji

Quay > CM3

= Back to Back Super Bowls. (I like it.)

I was hoping to hear how this is somehow an indicator of something that was wrong somewhere with somebody in the organization, probably Gutekunst, but maybe Murphy and Ball, too. You know, the "Packers Brass doesn't know what they're doing" people. But none have shown up yet, so I'll just have to go out on a limb and say that it's a good thing for Wyatt, the organization and team, and the fans. It actually appears as though the people running the show have a plan, and it's a pretty good one. We have Walker and Wyatt for the next 5 years and we're adding them to a pretty good group of defenders so.......this should be a good defense. One of the better ones in the NFC. Best in the division, I think.

PS. I just realized that Wyatt, Walker, Stokes, Campbell, Gary, Clark will all probably be around for a couple of years. Add in Alexander and Savage.....Slaton for 3 years....we have a large group of good defenders that are going to be around for a while. And we can add to them.

No doubt, LH!

Listening to Gutekunst’s presser, Jaire is getting his bag very soon, which should free up some cap monies for additions as he sees fit.

It’s a remarkable bit of good fortune that’s come together. A lot to like with what we’re seeing now. Totally digging this.

Kinda funny on the subject… have NFL Network on in background while reading up on some stuff, and Daniel Jeremiah picks Quay Walker for DROY. Their “Way too early end of season awards… hilarious. Nice seeing more Quay highlights.

There’s the potential for a ton of fun in this 2022 season.

Definitely going to help Quay to be playing behind a very good and stout DL making it easier to get to ball carrier and clean up.

I hope he puts $4 mil of that signing bonus into a trust or something. Just in case.

My first thought was a little more than half your contract up front might be a recipe for a young man to blow a lot of money if he doesn't have professional money managers on board.

But then I thought.. well, the whole contract is guaranteed so at least he knows he's getting roughy 1.75M more per year for the next 4 years no matter what.

Was my thought exactly but for all these young men.
