Redskins 1st Round OT Trent Williams Getting More Comfortable

Washington Redskins first-round offensive tackle Trent Williams is getting more comfortable in the team's zone-blocking system, the Washington Post reports, even earning praise from six-time Pro Bowler Chris Samuels, the man he's attempting to replace.

"Obviously, it makes me feel good inside, just knowing that they have confidence like that in me," Williams said. "Chris, being around the game a long time, six-time Pro Bowler, he's probably one of the best tackles to come through Washington in a long time. Just hearing that from him, and I lean on him for a lot of advice on and off the field, so Chris has been a great mentor for me."

Williams (6-5, 318) started 37 games at the University of Oklahoma, 25 of which were at right tackle. The fourth overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft is expected to start at left tackle from Day One. Williams will not only be asked to replace a legendary player like Samuels, but he'll also be tasked with keeping pass-rushers like Trent Cole, DeMarcus Ware, Clay Matthews, Dwight Freeney, and Jared Allen from hitting quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Getting Williams ready may be the top priority for the Redskins' coaching staff this off-season.

"I'm getting good feedback from the coaches," said Williams. "It's a day-to-day process, but I feel it's going real good.

"I've been improving every day, week by week, just as I get comfortable with the offense. It's looking very positive right now. When I know what I'm doing, I trust my technique."
