Giants to Sign WR Derek Hagan

Free agent wide receiver Derek Hagan will sign a one-year deal with the New York Giants, Mike Garafolo of The Star-Ledger reports.

Hagan (6-2, 215) was a third-round pick (82nd overall) out of Arizona State by the Miami Dolphins in 2006. After catching 53 passes for 645 yards and 3 touchdowns, Hagan joined the Giants after being released by the Dolphins midway through the 2008 season.

Last season, Hagan caught 8 passes for 101 yards and a 23-yard touchdown, and adding 11 tackles and a fumble recovery on special teams.

A restricted free agent in the off-season, Hagan was tendered at the "Original Round" level. After catching 9 passes for 94 yards in the pre-season, Hagan was released on September 4.

With Steve Smith sidelined with a partially torn pectoral muscle, and Ramses Barden out for the season with an ankle injury, the Giants are in need of veteran receiving depth, which Hagan provides.
