Cowboys WR Patrick Crayton to Continue OTA Absence

When the Dallas Cowboys reconvene for their "Organized Team Activity" sessions this week, veteran wide receiver Patrick Crayton will not be present, Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News.

A seventh-round pick (216th overall) in 2004 out of Northwest Oklahoma State, Crayton has been a part-time starter in recent seasons, catching 196 passes for 2,888 yards and 23 touchdowns over the last six seasons.

With Miles Austin establishing himself as the go-to receiver in Dallas, and the Cowboys having a lot of draft picks and money invested in Roy Williams, and having used their first-round pick last month on Dez Bryant, the Cowboys have granted permission to Crayton's agent to seek a trade. Crayton's age (31) and salaries ($4.5 million dollars over the next two seasons) have made that difficult, as has the Cowboys' asking price, as Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram writes the organization see Crayton as an insurance policy should Austin, Williams, or Bryant suffer an injury during the off-season.

Crayton does plan on obligating his contract by reporting to the team's mandatory mini-camp, Archer adds.
